1 And after these things, having left Athens, he came to Corinth;

2 and finding a certain Jew by name Aquila, of Pontus by race, just come from Italy, and Priscilla his wife, (because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to leave Rome,) came to them,

3 and because they were of the same trade abode with them, and wrought. For they were tent-makers by trade.

4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

5 And when both Silas and Timotheus came down from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in respect of the word, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.

6 But as they opposed and spoke injuriously, he shook his clothes, and said to them, Your blood be upon your own head: *I* {am} pure; from henceforth I will go to the nations.

7 And departing thence he came to the house of a certain {man}, by name Justus, who worshipped God, whose house adjoined the synagogue.

8 But Crispus the ruler of the synagogue believed in the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing, believed, and were baptised.

9 And the Lord said by vision in {the} night to Paul, Fear not, but speak and be not silent;

10 because *I* am with thee, and no one shall set upon thee to injure thee; because I have much people in this city.

11 And he remained {there} a year and six months, teaching among them the word of God.

12 But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one consent rose against Paul and led him to the judgment-seat,

13 saying, This {man} persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.

14 But as Paul was going to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, If indeed it was some wrong or wicked criminality, O Jews, of reason I should have borne with you;

15 but if it be questions about words, and names, and the law that ye have, see to it yourselves; {for} *I* do not intend to be judge of these things.

16 And he drove them from the judgment-seat.

17 And having all laid hold on Sosthenes the ruler of the synagogue, they beat him before the judgment-seat. And Gallio troubled himself about none of these things.

18 And Paul, having yet stayed {there} many days, took leave of the brethren and sailed thence to Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila, having shorn his head in Cenchrea, for he had a vow;

19 and he arrived at Ephesus, and left them there. But entering himself into the synagogue he reasoned with the Jews.

20 And when they asked him that he would remain for a longer time {with them} he did not accede,

21 but bade them farewell, saying, {I must by all means keep the coming feast at Jerusalem}; I will return to you again, if God will: and he sailed away from Ephesus.

22 And landing at Caesarea, and having gone up and saluted the assembly, he went down to Antioch.

23 And having stayed {there} some time, he went forth, passing in order through the country of Galatia and Phrygia, establishing all the disciples.

24 But a certain Jew, Apollos by name, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, who was mighty in the scriptures, arrived at Ephesus.

25 He was instructed in the way of the Lord, and being fervent in his spirit, he spoke and taught exactly the things concerning Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John.

26 And *he* began to speak boldly in the synagogue. And Aquila and Priscilla, having heard him, took him to {them} and unfolded to him the way of God more exactly.

27 And when he purposed to go into Achaia, the brethren wrote to the disciples engaging them to receive him, who, being come, contributed much to those who believed through grace.

28 For he with great force convinced the Jews publicly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

2 Et y ayant trouvé un Juif, nommé Aquile, originaire du pays du Pont, qui un peu auparavant était venu d'Italie, avec Priscille sa femme, parce que Claude avait commandé que tous les Juifs sortissent de Rome, il s'adressa à eux.

3 Et parce qu'il était de même métier, il demeura avec eux, et il travaillait. Or leur métier était de faire des tentes.

4 Et chaque Sabbat il disputait dans la Synagogue, et persuadait tant les Juifs que les Grecs.

5 Et quand Silas et Timothée furent venus de Macédoine, Paul étant poussé par l'Esprit, témoignait aux Juifs que Jésus était le Christ.

6 Et comme ils le contredisaient, et qu'ils blasphémaient, il secoua ses vêtements, et leur dit : que votre sang soit sur votre tête, j'en suis net! je m'en vais dès à présent vers les Gentils.

7 Et étant sorti de là, il entra dans la maison d'un homme appelé Juste, qui servait Dieu, et duquel la maison tenait à la Synagogue.

8 Mais Crispe, Principal de la Synagogue, crut au Seigneur avec toute sa maison; et plusieurs autres aussi des Corinthiens l'ayant ouï, crurent, et ils furent baptisés.

9 Or le Seigneur dit la nuit à Paul dans une vision : ne crains point, mais parle, et ne te tais point;

10 Parce que je suis avec toi, et personne ne mettra les mains sur toi pour te faire du mal; et j'ai un grand peuple en cette ville.

11 Il demeura donc là un an et six mois, enseignant parmi eux la parole de Dieu.

12 Mais du temps que Gallion était Proconsul d'Achaïe, les Juifs [tous] d'un commun accord s'élevèrent contre Paul, et l'amenèrent devant le siège judicial,

13 En disant : cet homme persuade les gens de servir Dieu contre la Loi.

14 Et comme Paul voulait ouvrir la bouche, Gallion dit aux Juifs : ô Juifs! s'il était question de quelque injustice, ou de quelque crime, je vous supporterais autant qu'il serait raisonnable;

15 Mais s'il est question de paroles et de mots, et de votre Loi, vous y mettrez ordre vous-mêmes : car je ne veux point être juge de ces choses.

16 Et il les fit retirer de devant le siège judicial.

17 Alors tous les Grecs ayant saisi Sosthènes, qui était le Principal de la Synagogue, le battaient devant le siège judicial, sans que Gallion s'en mît en peine.

18 Et quand Paul eut demeuré là encore assez longtemps, il prit congé des frères, et navigua en Syrie, et avec lui Priscille et Aquile, après qu'il se fut fait raser la tête à Cenchrée, parce qu'il avait fait un vœu.

19 Puis il arriva à Ephèse, et les y laissa; mais étant entré dans la Synagogue, il discourut avec les Juifs,

20 Qui le prièrent de demeurer encore plus longtemps avec eux; mais il ne voulut point le leur accorder.

21 Et il prit congé d'eux, en [leur] disant : il me faut absolument faire la Fête prochaine à Jérusalem, mais je reviendrai encore vers vous, s'il plaît à Dieu. Ainsi il désancra d'Ephèse.

22 Et quand il fut descendu à Césarée, il monta [à Jérusalem], et après avoir salué l'Eglise, il descendit à Antioche.

23 Et y ayant séjourné quelque temps, il s'en alla, et traversa tout de suite la contrée de Galatie et de Phrygie, fortifiant tous les disciples.

24 Mais il vint à Ephèse un Juif, nommé Apollos, Alexandrin de nation, homme éloquent, et savant dans les Ecritures;

25 Qui était en quelque manière instruit dans la voie du Seigneur; et comme il avait un grand zèle, il expliquait et enseignait fort exactement les choses qui concernent le Seigneur, quoiqu'il ne connût que le Baptême de Jean.

26 Il commença donc à parler avec hardiesse dans la Synagogue; et quand Priscille et Aquile l'eurent entendu, ils le prirent avec eux, et lui expliquèrent plus particulièrement la voie de Dieu.

27 Et comme il voulut passer en Achaïe, les frères qui l'y avaient exhorté, écrivirent aux disciples de le recevoir, et quand il y fut arrivé, il profita beaucoup à ceux qui avaient cru par la grâce.

28 Car il convainquait publiquement les Juifs avec une grande véhémence, démontrant par les Ecritures que Jésus était le Christ.
