1 Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand. 2 And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away; and they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage. 3 Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye walk haughtily: for it is an evil time. 4 In that day shall they take up a proverb concerning you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We are utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! He hath distributed our fields to the rebellious. 5 Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast the measuring line upon a lot, in the congregation of Jehovah.

6 Prophesy ye not, they prophesy. If they do not prophesy to these, the ignominy will not depart. 7 O thou that art named the house of Jacob, Is Jehovah impatient? are these his doings? Do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly? 8 But of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye strip off the mantle with the garment from them that pass by securely, that are averse from war. 9 The women of my people do ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their young children do ye take away my magnificence for ever. 10 Arise ye, and depart; for this is not the resting-place, because of defilement that bringeth destruction, even a grievous destruction. 11 If a man walking in wind and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink, he shall be the prophet of this people.

12 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, the whole of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as sheep of Bozrah, as a flock in the midst of their pasture: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men. 13 One that breaketh through is gone up before them: they have broken forth, and have passed on to the gate, and are gone out by it; and their king passeth on before them, and Jehovah at the head of them.

1 Vai de cei ce cugetă*Osea 7:6. nelegiuirea și făuresc*Ps. 36:4. rele în așternutul lor; când se crapă de ziuă o înfăptuiesc, dacă*Gen. 31:29. le stă în putere. 2 Dacă poftesc*Is. 5:8. ogoare, pun mâna pe ele, dacă doresc case, le răpesc; asupresc pe om și casa lui, pe om și moștenirea lui. 3 De aceea, așa vorbește Domnul: „Iată, Eu am de gând să aduc o nenorocire împotriva acestui leat de oameni*Ier. 8:3., de care nu vă veți feri grumajii și nu veți mai umbla cu capul atât de sus, căci vremurile*Amos 5:13.Efes. 5:16. vor fi rele. 4 În ziua aceea, veți ajunge de pomină*Hab. 2:6., veți boci*2 Sam. 1:17. și veți zice: ‘S-a isprăvit! Suntem pustiiți cu desăvârșire! Partea de moștenire a poporului meu trece*Cap. 1:15. în mâna altuia! Vai, cum mi-o ia! Ogoarele noastre le împarte vrăjmașului…!’" 5 De aceea nu vei avea pe nimeni care să întindă*Deut. 32:8,9. frânghia de măsurat pentru sorțul tău, în adunarea Domnului. 6 „Nu*Is. 30:10.Amos 2:12;7:16. prorociți!" zic ei. „Să nu se prorocească asemenea lucruri. Căci altminteri ocările nu mai încetează!" 7 Este Domnul atât de grabnic la mânie, casa lui Iacov? Acesta este felul Lui de a lucra? „Da, cuvintele Mele sunt prielnice celui ce umblă cu neprihănire! 8 De multă vreme poporul Meu este socotit de Mine ca vrăjmaș; voi răpiți mantaua de pe hainele celor ce trec liniștiți și n-au gust de război. 9 Voi izgoniți din casele lor iubite pe femeile poporului Meu, luați pentru totdeauna podoaba Mea de la copiii lor. 10 Sculați-vă și plecați, căci aici nu este odihnă*Deut. 12:9. pentru voi, căci, din pricina spurcăciunii*Lev. 18:25,28.Ier. 3:2., vor fi dureri, dureri puternice. 11 Da, dacă ar veni un om cu vânt*Ezec. 13:3. și minciuni și ar zice: ‘Îți voi proroci despre vin și despre băuturi tari’, acela ar fi un proroc pentru poporul acesta! 12 Te voi strânge*Cap. 4:6,7. în întregime, Iacove! Voi strânge rămășița lui Israel, îi voi aduna ca pe niște oi dintr-un staul*Ier. 31:10., ca pe o turmă în pășunea ei, așa că va fi o mare zarvă*Ezec. 36:37. de oameni. 13 Cel ce va face spărtura se va sui înaintea lor; vor face spărtura, vor trece pe poartă și vor ieși pe ea; împăratul lor*Osea 3:5. va merge înaintea lor și Domnul*Is. 52:12. va fi în fruntea lor."
