1 Hear ye now what Jehovah saith: Arise, contend before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice. 2 Hear, ye mountains, Jehovah’s controversy, and ye, unchanging foundations of the earth; for Jehovah hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel. 3 O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me. 4 For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. 5 My people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him, from Shittim unto Gilgal, that ye may know the righteousness of Jehovah.

6 Wherewith shall I come before Jehovah, bow myself before the high God*GodHebrew: Elohim Shall I come before him with burnt-offerings, with calves of a year old? 7 Will Jehovah take pleasure in thousands of rams, in ten thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? 8 He hath shewn thee, O man, what is good: and what doth Jehovah require of thee, but to do justly, and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim

9 Jehovah’s voice crieth unto the city, and wisdom looketh on thy name. Hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it. 10 Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure which is abominable? 11 Shall I be pure with the unjust balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights? 12 For her rich men are full of violence, and her inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth. 13 Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee; I will make thee desolate because of thy sins. 14 Thou shalt eat, and not be satisfied, and thine emptiness shall remain in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take away, and not save; and what thou savest will I give up to the sword. 15 Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and new wine, but shalt not drink wine. 16 For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab; and ye walk in their counsels: that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing; and ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

Domnului și luați aminte, temelii tari ale pământului! Căci*Is. 1:18;5:3,4;43:26.Osea 4:1. Domnul are o judecată cu poporul Său și vrea să Se judece cu Israel. 3 Poporul Meu, ce*Ier. 2:5,31. ți-am făcut și cu ce te-am ostenit? Răspunde-Mi! 4 Căci te-am*Exod 12:51;14:30;20:2.Deut. 4:20.Amos 2:10. scos din țara Egiptului, te-am izbăvit din casa robiei și am trimis înaintea ta pe Moise, Aaron și Maria! 5 Poporul Meu, adu-ți aminte ce plănuia Balac*Num. 22:5;23:7;24:10,11.Deut. 23:4,5.Ios. 24:9,10.Apoc. 2:14., împăratul Moabului, și ce i-a răspuns Balaam, fiul lui Beor, și ce s-a întâmplat din Sitim*Num. 25:1;33:49.Ios. 4:19;5:10. până la Ghilgal, ca să cunoști binefacerile*Jud. 5:11. Domnului!" 6 Cu ce voi întâmpina pe Domnul și cu ce mă voi pleca înaintea Dumnezeului celui Preaînalt? Îl voi întâmpina oare cu arderi-de-tot, cu viței de un an? 7 Dar primește*Ps. 50:9;51:16.Is. 1:11. Domnul oare mii de berbeci sau zeci de mii de râuri*Iov 29:6. de untdelemn? Să dau eu pentru fărădelegile mele pe întâiul meu născut*2 Împ. 16:3;21:6;23:10.Ier. 7:31;19:5.Ezec. 23:37., rodul trupului meu, pentru păcatul sufletului meu? 8 Ți s-a arătat*Deut. 10:12.1 Sam. 15:22.Osea 6:6;12:6., omule, ce este bine! Și ce alta cere Domnul de la tine decât să faci dreptate*Gen. 18:19.Is. 1:17., să iubești mila și să umbli smerit cu Dumnezeul tău? 9 Glasul Domnului strigă cetății și omul înțelept se teme de Numele Tău. „Ascultați pedeapsa și pe Cel ce o trimite! 10 Mai sunt în casa celui rău comori nelegiuite și blestemata*Deut. 25:13-16.Prov. 11:1;20:10,23. efă mică? 11 Pot socoti Eu curat pe cel ce are o cumpănă*Osea 12:7. nedreaptă și greutăți strâmbe în sac? 12 Pentru că bogații lui sunt plini de silnicie, locuitorii lui spun minciuni și limba lor*Ier. 9:3,5,6,8. este numai înșelătorie în gura lor, 13 de aceea, și Eu te voi lovi*Lev. 26:16.Ps. 107:17,18. cu suferință, te voi pustii pentru păcatele tale. 14 Vei mânca*Lev. 26:26.Osea 4:10., și tot nu te vei sătura, ci foamea va rămâne în tine; ce vei lua dinaintea vrăjmașului nu vei scăpa, căci ce vei scăpa, voi da pradă sabiei. 15 Vei semăna*Deut. 28:38-40.Amos 5:11.Ţef. 1:13.Hag. 1:6., dar nu vei secera; vei stoarce măsline, dar nu te vei unge cu untdelemnul lor; vei face must, dar nu vei bea vin! 16 Căci ei păzesc*1 Împ. 16:25,26. toate orânduirile lui Omri*Osea 5:11. și lucrează tocmai cum a lucrat casa lui Ahab*1 Împ. 16:30;21:25,26.2 Împ. 21:3. și umblă după sfaturile lor, de aceea te voi face de pomină*1 Împ. 9:8.Ier. 19:8., îți voi face locuitorii de batjocură și vei purta ocara*Is. 25:8.Ier. 51:51.Plâng. 5:1. poporului Meu."
