1 And the LORD spake unto Moses and to Aaron, saying unto them, 2 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the living things which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth. 3 Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat. 4 Nevertheless these shall ye not eat of them that chew the cud, or of them that part the hoof: the camel, because he cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, he is unclean unto you. 5 And the coney, because he cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, he is unclean unto you. 6 And the hare, because she cheweth the cud but parteth not the hoof, she is unclean unto you. 7 And the swine, because he parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, but cheweth not the cud, he is unclean unto you. 8 Of their flesh ye shall not eat, and their carcases ye shall not touch; they are unclean unto you. 9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat. 10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of all the living creatures that are in the waters, they are an abomination unto you, 11 and they shall be an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, and their carcases ye shall have in abomination. 12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that is an abomination unto you. 13 And these ye shall have in abomination among the fowls; they shall not be eaten, they are an abomination: the eagle, and the gier eagle, and the ospray; 14 and the kite, and the falcon after its kind; 15 every raven after its kind; 16 and the ostrich, and the night hawk, and the seamew, and the hawk after its kind; 17 and the little owl, and the cormorant, and the great owl; 18 and the horned owl, and the pelican, and the vulture; 19 and the stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe, and the bat. 20 All winged creeping things that go upon all four are an abomination unto you. 21 Yet these may ye eat of all winged creeping things that go upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth; 22 even these of them ye may eat; the locust after its kind, and the bald locust after its kind, and the cricket after its kind, and the grasshopper after its kind. 23 But all winged creeping things, which have four feet, are an abomination unto you. 24 And by these ye shall become unclean: whosoever toucheth the carcase of them shall be unclean until the even: 25 And whosoever beareth aught of the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even. 26 Every beast which parteth the hoof, and is not clovenfooted, nor cheweth the cud, is unclean unto you: every one that toucheth them shall be unclean. 27 And whatsoever goeth upon its paws, among all beasts that go on all four, they are unclean unto you: whoso toucheth their carcase shall be unclean until the even. 28 And he that beareth the carcase of them shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: they are unclean unto you. 29 And these are they which are unclean unto you among the creeping things that creep upon the earth; the weasel, and the mouse, and the great lizard after its kind, 30 and the gecko, and the land-crocodile, and the lizard, and the sand-lizard, and the chameleon. 31 These are they which are unclean to you among all that creep: whosoever doth touch them, when they are dead, shall be unclean until the even. 32 And upon whatsoever any of them, when they are dead, doth fall, it shall be unclean; whether it be any vessel of wood, or raiment, or skin, or sack, whatsoever vessel it be, wherewith any work is done, it must be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the even; then shall it be clean. 33 And every earthen vessel, whereinto any of them falleth, whatsoever is in it shall be unclean, and it ye shall break. 34 All food therein which may be eaten, that on which water cometh, shall be unclean: and all drink that may be drunk in every such vessel shall be unclean. 35 And every thing whereupon any part of their carcase falleth shall be unclean; whether oven, or range for pots, it shall be broken in pieces: they are unclean, and shall be unclean unto you. 36 Nevertheless a fountain or a pit wherein is a gathering of water shall be clean: but that which toucheth their carcase shall be unclean. 37 And if aught of their carcase fall upon any sowing seed which is to be sown, it is clean. 38 But if water be put upon the seed, and aught of their carcase fall thereon, it is unclean unto you. 39 And if any beast, of which ye may eat, die; he that toucheth the carcase thereof shall be unclean until the even. 40 And he that eateth of the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: he also that beareth the carcase of it shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even. 41 And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth is an abomination; it shall not be eaten. 42 Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath many feet, even all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination. 43 Ye shall not make yourselves abominable with any creeping thing that creepeth, neither shall ye make yourselves unclean with them, that ye should be defiled thereby. 44 For I am the LORD your God: sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that moveth upon the earth. 45 For I am the LORD that brought you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy. 46 This is the law of the beast, and of the fowl, and of every living creature that moveth in the waters, and of every creature that creepeth upon the earth: 47 to make a difference between the unclean and the clean, and between the living thing that may be eaten and the living thing that may not be eaten.

1 O Senhor falou a Moisés e a Arão, dizendo-lhes:

2 — Digam aos filhos de Israel: De todos os animais que existem sobre a terra são estes que vocês podem comer: 3 todos os que têm unhas fendidas, cujo casco se divide em dois e que ruminam, esses vocês podem comer. 4 Mas dos que ruminam ou dos que têm casco dividido são estes que vocês não podem comer: o camelo, que rumina, mas não tem casco dividido; este será impuro para vocês; 5 o arganaz, porque rumina, mas não tem casco dividido; este será impuro para vocês; 6 a lebre, porque rumina, mas não tem casco dividido; esta será impura para vocês. 7 Também o porco, porque tem unhas fendidas e o casco dividido, mas não rumina; este será impuro para vocês; 8 não comam da sua carne, nem toquem no seu cadáver. Estes animais serão impuros para vocês.

9 — De todos os animais que há nas águas vocês podem comer os seguintes: todo o que tem barbatanas e escamas, nos mares e nos rios; esses vocês podem comer. 10 Porém todo o que não tem barbatanas nem escamas, nos mares e nos rios, todos os que enxameiam as águas e todo ser vivo que há nas águas, estes serão abominação para vocês. 11 Vocês devem considerá-los uma abominação; não comam da sua carne e abominem o cadáver desses animais. 12 Todo o que nas águas não tem barbatanas ou escamas será abominação para vocês.

13 — Das aves, estas vocês abominarão; não se comerão, serão abominação: a águia, o urubu e a águia marinha; 14 o milhano e o falcão, segundo a sua espécie; 15 todo corvo, segundo a sua espécie; 16 o avestruz, a coruja, a gaivota, o gavião, segundo a sua espécie; 17 o mocho, o corvo marinho, a íbis, 18 a gralha, o pelicano, o abutre, 19 a cegonha, a garça, segundo a sua espécie; a poupa e o morcego.

20 — Todo inseto que voa e que anda sobre quatro pés será abominação para vocês. 21 Mas de todo inseto que voa, que anda sobre quatro pés, cujas pernas traseiras são mais compridas, para saltar com elas sobre a terra, estes vocês podem comer. 22 Deles, vocês podem comer estes: a locusta, segundo a sua espécie; o gafanhoto devorador, segundo a sua espécie; o grilo, segundo a sua espécie; e o gafanhoto, segundo a sua espécie. 23 Mas todos os outros insetos que voam e que têm quatro pés serão abominação para vocês.

24 — E por estes vocês se tornam impuros; quem tocar o cadáver deles ficará impuro até a tarde. 25 Quem levar o cadáver desses animais deverá lavar as suas roupas e ficará impuro até a tarde. 26 Todo animal que tem unhas fendidas, mas o casco não dividido em dois e não rumina deve ser considerado impuro por vocês; quem tocar neles ficará impuro. 27 Todo animal quadrúpede que anda na planta dos pés será impuro para vocês; quem tocar o cadáver desses animais ficará impuro até a tarde. 28 E quem levar o cadáver desses animais deverá lavar as suas roupas e ficará impuro até a tarde; esses animais serão impuros para vocês.

29 — Entre o enxame de criaturas que se movem sobre a terra, estas serão impuras para vocês: a doninha, o rato, o lagarto, segundo a sua espécie; 30 o geco, o crocodilo da terra, a lagartixa, o lagarto da areia e o camaleão. 31 Entre todas as criaturas que se movem sobre a terra, estas vocês devem considerar impuras; quem tocar nelas, estando elas mortas, ficará impuro até a tarde. 32 E tudo aquilo sobre que cair qualquer um desses animais, estando eles mortos, ficará impuro, seja vaso de madeira, roupa, pele, pano de saco ou qualquer instrumento com que se faz alguma obra; deverá ser posto em água e ficará impuro até a tarde; depois, ficará puro. 33 E todo vaso de barro, dentro do qual cair alguma coisa deles, tudo o que houver nele ficará impuro; o vaso deverá ser quebrado. 34 Todo alimento que se come, preparado com aquela água, ficará impuro; e todo líquido que se bebe, se estiver naquele vaso, ficará impuro. 35 E aquilo sobre o que cair alguma coisa do seu corpo morto ficará impuro; se for um forno ou um fogareiro de barro, serão quebrados; são impuros; portanto, vocês os devem considerar impuros. 36 Porém a fonte ou cisterna, em que se recolhem águas, será pura; mas quem tocar no cadáver desses animais ficará impuro. 37 Se do seu cadáver cair alguma coisa sobre alguma semente de semear, esta estará pura; 38 mas, se alguém derramar água sobre a semente, e, se do cadáver cair alguma coisa sobre ela, será impura para vocês.

39 — Se morrer algum dos animais que vocês podem comer, quem tocar no seu cadáver ficará impuro até a tarde. 40 Quem comer do cadáver desse animal lavará as suas roupas e ficará impuro até a tarde; e quem levar o corpo morto desse animal deverá lavar as suas roupas e ficará impuro até a tarde.

41 — Também dos que se movem sobre a terra, todo animal que rasteja sobre o chão será impuro; não se comerá. 42 Tudo o que anda sobre o ventre, e tudo o que anda sobre quatro pés ou que tem muitos pés, entre todas as criaturas que se movem sobre a terra, não comam, porque são abominação. 43 Não se façam abomináveis por nenhuma dessas criaturas, nem se contaminem por meio delas, para que vocês não fiquem impuros. 44 Eu sou o Senhor, o Deus de vocês; portanto, consagrem-se e sejam santos, porque eu sou santo; e não se contaminem por nenhuma dessas criaturas que rastejam sobre o chão, entre todas as criaturas que se movem sobre a terra. 45 Eu sou o Senhor, que os tirei da terra do Egito, para que eu seja o Deus de vocês; portanto, sejam santos, porque eu sou santo.

46 — Esta é a lei a respeito dos animais, das aves, de todo ser vivo que se move nas águas e de toda criatura que rasteja sobre o chão, 47 para fazer diferença entre o impuro e o puro e entre os animais que podem ser comidos e os animais que não podem ser comidos.
