1 Puis la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en disant :

2 Tu ne prendras point de femme, et tu n'auras point de fils ni de filles en ce lieu-ci.

3 Car ainsi a dit l'Eternel touchant les fils et les filles qui naîtront en ce lieu-ci, et touchant leurs mères qui les auront enfantés, et touchant les pères qui les auront engendrés en ce pays;

4 Ils mourront de maladies très douloureuses; ils ne seront point lamentés, ni ensevelis, mais ils seront sur le dessus de la terre comme du fumier, et ils seront consumés par l'épée et par la famine, et leurs corps morts seront pour viande aux oiseaux des cieux, et aux bêtes de la terre.

5 Même, ainsi a dit l'Eternel : n'entre point en aucune maison de deuil, et ne va point lamenter, ni te condouloir pour eux; car j'ai retiré de ce peuple, dit l'Eternel, ma paix, ma miséricorde, et mes compassions.

6 Et les grands et les petits mourront en ce pays; ils ne seront point ensevelis, et on ne les pleurera point, et personne ne se fera aucune incision, ni ne se rasera pour eux.

7 On ne leur distribuera point de [pain] dans le deuil pour consoler quelqu'un d'eux au sujet d'un mort; et on ne leur donnera point à boire de la coupe de consolation pour leur père ou pour leur mère.

8 Aussi tu n'entreras point en aucune maison de festin afin de t'asseoir avec eux pour manger, ou pour boire.

9 Car ainsi a dit l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël : voici, je m'en vais faire cesser de ce lieu-ci devant vos yeux et en vos jours, la voix de joie et la voix d'allégresse, la voix de l'époux et la voix de l'épouse.

10 Et il arrivera que quand tu auras prononcé à ce peuple toutes ces paroles-là, ils te diront : pourquoi l'Eternel a-t-il prononcé tout ce grand mal contre nous ? et quelle est notre iniquité, et quel [est] notre péché que nous avons commis contre l'Eternel notre Dieu?

11 Et tu leur diras : parce que vos pères m'ont abandonné, dit l'Eternel, et sont allés après d'autres dieux, et les ont servis, et se sont prosternés devant eux, et m'ont abandonné, et n'ont point gardé ma Loi,

12 Et que vous avez encore fait pis que vos pères ; car voici, chacun de vous marche après la dureté de son cœur mauvais, afin de ne m'écouter point;

13 A cause de cela je vous transporterai de ce pays en un pays que vous n'avez point connu, ni vous ni vos pères; et là vous serez asservis jour et nuit à d'autres dieux, parce que je ne vous aurai point fait de grâce.

14 Néanmoins voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, qu'on ne dira plus : l'Eternel [est] vivant qui a fait remonter les enfants d'Israël du pays d'Egypte;

15 Mais, l'Eternel est vivant qui a fait remonter les enfants d'Israël du pays de l'Aquilon, et de tous les pays auxquels il les avait chassés; après que je les aurai ramenés dans leur pays, lequel j'ai donné à leurs pères.

16 Voici, je m'en vais mander à plusieurs Pêcheurs, dit l'Eternel, et ils les pêcheront; et ensuite je m'en vais mander à plusieurs Veneurs, qui les chasseront par toutes les montagnes, et par tous les coteaux, et par tous les trous des rochers.

17 Car mes yeux sont sur tout leur train, lequel n'est point caché devant moi; ni leur iniquité n'est point celée devant mes yeux.

18 Mais premièrement je leur rendrai le double de leur iniquité et de leur péché, à cause qu'ils ont souillé mon pays par leurs victimes abominables, et qu'ils ont rempli mon héritage de leurs abominations.

19 Eternel, qui es ma force et ma puissance, et mon refuge au jour de la détresse, les nations viendront à toi des bouts de la terre, et diront : certes nos pères ont hérité le mensonge et la vanité, et les choses auxquelles il n'y a point de profit.

20 L'homme se fera-t-il bien des dieux? qui toutefois ne sont point dieux.

21 C'est pourquoi, voici, je vais leur faire connaître à cette fois, je vais leur faire connaître ma main et ma force, et ils sauront que mon Nom est l'Eternel.

1 The word of the LORD came also unto me, saying,

2 You shall not take you a wife, neither shall you have sons or daughters in this place.

3 For thus says the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bore them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land;

4 They shall die grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as refuse upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their dead bodies shall be food for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

5 For thus says the LORD, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, says the LORD, even lovingkindness and mercies.

6 Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them:

7 Neither shall men break bread for those in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

8 Also you shall not go into the house of feasting, to sit with them, to eat and to drink.

9 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.

10 And it shall come to pass, when you shall show this people all these words, and they shall say unto you, Why has the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?

11 Then shall you say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, says the LORD, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshiped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;

12 And you have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, you walk everyone after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me:

13 Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that you know not, neither you nor your fathers; and there shall you serve other gods day and night; where I will not show you favor.

14 Therefore, behold, the days come, says the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD lives, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

15 But, The LORD lives, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands where he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

16 Behold, I will send for many fishermen, says the LORD, and they shall catch them; and afterward will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

17 For my eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from my eyes.

18 And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled my inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable idols.

19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the nations shall come unto you from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things in which there is no profit.

20 Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods?

21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know my hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.
