1 La parole qui fut [adressée] à Jérémie par l'Eternel, en disant :

2 Ainsi a parlé l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, en disant : écris-toi dans un livre toutes les paroles que je t'ai dites.

3 Car voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, que je ramènerai les captifs de mon peuple d'Israël et de Juda, a dit l'Eternel, et je les ferai retourner au pays que j'ai donné à leurs pères, et ils le posséderont.

4 Et ce sont ici les paroles que l'Eternel a prononcées touchant Israël, et Juda :

5 Ainsi a donc dit l'Eternel : nous avons ouï un bruit d'épouvantement et de frayeur, et il n'y a point de paix.

6 Informez-vous, je vous prie, et considérez si un mâle enfante; pourquoi donc ai-je vu tout homme tenant ses mains sur ses reins comme une femme qui enfante? et [pourquoi] tous les visages sont-ils jaunes?

7 Hélas! que cette journée-là est grande, il n'y en a point eu de semblable, et elle sera un temps de détresse à Jacob; [mais] il en sera pourtant délivré.

8 Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, dit l'Eternel des armées, que je briserai son joug de dessus ton cou, et que je romprai tes liens; et les étrangers ne t'asserviront plus;

9 Mais ils serviront l'Eternel leur Dieu, et David leur Roi, lequel je leur susciterai.

10 Toi donc, mon serviteur Jacob, ne crains point, dit l'Eternel, et ne t'épouvante point, ô Israël! car voici, je m'en vais te délivrer du pays éloigné; et ta postérité du pays de leur captivité; et Jacob retournera, il sera en repos et à son aise, et il n'y aura personne qui lui fasse peur.

11 Car je suis avec toi, dit l'Eternel, pour te délivrer; et même je consumerai entièrement toutes les nations parmi lesquelles je t'aurai dispersé; mais quant à toi, je ne te consumerai point entièrement, mais je te châtierai par mesure, et je ne te tiendrai pas entièrement pour innocent.

12 Car ainsi a dit l'Eternel : ta blessure est hors d'espérance, [et] ta plaie est fort douloureuse.

13 Il n'y a personne qui défende ta cause pour nettoyer [ta plaie]; il n'y a point pour toi de remède qui y fasse revenir la chair.

14 Tous tes amoureux t'ont oubliée, ils ne te cherchent point; car je t'ai frappée d'une plaie d'ennemi, d'un châtiment [d'homme] cruel, à cause de la grandeur de tes iniquités; tes péchés se sont renforcés.

15 Pourquoi cries-tu à cause de ta plaie? ta douleur est hors d'espérance; je t'ai fait ces choses à cause de la grandeur de ton iniquité, tes péchés se sont renforcés.

16 Néanmoins tous ceux qui te dévorent, seront dévorés, et tous ceux qui te mettent dans la détresse iront en captivité; et tous ceux qui te fourragent seront fourragés; et j'abandonnerai au pillage tous ceux qui te pillent.

17 Même je consoliderai tes plaies, et te guérirai de tes blessures, dit l'Eternel. Parce qu'ils t'ont appelée la déchassée, [et qu'ils ont dit :] c'est Sion, personne ne la recherche :

18 Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : voici, je m'en vais ramener les captifs des tentes de Jacob, et j'aurai pitié de ses pavillons; la ville sera rétablie sur son sol, et le palais sera assis en sa place.

19 Et il sortira d'eux actions de grâces et voix de gens qui rient, et je les multiplierai, et ils ne seront plus diminués; et je les agrandirai, et ils ne seront point rendus petits.

20 Et ses enfants seront comme auparavant, et son assemblée sera affermie devant moi, et je punirai tous ceux qui l'oppriment.

21 Et celui qui aura autorité sur lui sera de lui, et son dominateur sortira du milieu de lui, je le ferai approcher, et il viendra vers moi; car qui est celui qui ait disposé son cœur pour venir vers moi? dit l'Eternel.

22 Et vous serez mon peuple, et je serai votre Dieu.

23 Voici, la tempête de l'Eternel, la fureur est sortie, un tourbillon qui s'entasse; il se posera sur la tête des méchants.

24 L'ardeur de la colère de l'Eternel ne se détournera point, jusqu’à ce qu'il ait exécuté et mis en effet les desseins de son cœur; vous entendrez ceci aux derniers jours.

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying, Write you all the words that I have spoken unto you in a book.

3 For, lo, the days come, says the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, says the LORD: and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

4 And these are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

5 For thus says the LORD; We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.

6 Ask you now, and see whether a man does travail with child? why do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

8 For it shall come to pass in that day, says the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds, and strangers shall no more enslave them:

9 But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

10 Therefore fear you not, O my servant Jacob, says the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save you from afar, and your descendants from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.

11 For I am with you, says the LORD, to save you: though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet will I not make a full end of you: but I will correct you in just measure, and will not leave you altogether unpunished.

12 For thus says the LORD, Your bruise is incurable, and your wound is grievous.

13 There is none to plead your cause, that you may be bound up: you have no healing medicines.

14 All your lovers have forgotten you; they seek you not; for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of your iniquity; because your sins were increased.

15 Why cry you over your affliction? your sorrow is incurable for the multitude of your iniquity: because your sins were increased, I have done these things unto you.

16 Therefore all they that devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, everyone of them, shall go into captivity; and they that plunder you shall be plunder, and all that prey upon you will I make a prey.

17 For I will restore health unto you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says the LORD; because they called you an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeks after.

18 Thus says the LORD; Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob’s tents, and have mercy on his dwelling places; and the city shall be built upon its own mound, and the palace shall stand in its proper place.

19 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

20 Their children also shall be as before, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them.

21 And their nobles shall be from themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that devoted his heart to approach unto me? says the LORD.

22 And you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

23 Behold, the whirlwind of the LORD goes forth with fury, a continuing whirlwind: it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked.

24 The fierce anger of the LORD shall not return, until he has done it, and until he has performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days you shall consider it.
