1 — Eu sou a videira verdadeira, e o meu Pai é o lavrador. 2 Todo ramo que, estando em mim, não der fruto, ele o corta; e todo o que dá fruto ele limpa, para que produza mais fruto ainda. 3 Vocês já estão limpos por causa da palavra que lhes tenho falado. 4 Permaneçam em mim, e eu permanecerei em vocês. Como o ramo não pode produzir fruto de si mesmo se não permanecer na videira, assim vocês não podem dar fruto se não permanecerem em mim.

5 — Eu sou a videira, vocês são os ramos. Quem permanece em mim, e eu, nele, esse dá muito fruto; porque sem mim vocês não podem fazer nada. 6 Se alguém não permanecer em mim, será lançado fora, à semelhança do ramo, e secará; e o apanham, lançam no fogo e o queimam. 7 Se permanecerem em mim, e as minhas palavras permanecerem em vocês, pedirão o que quiserem, e lhes será feito. 8 Nisto é glorificado o meu Pai: que vocês deem muito fruto; e assim mostrarão que são meus discípulos. 9 Como o Pai me amou, também eu amei vocês; permaneçam no meu amor. 10 Se vocês guardarem os meus mandamentos, permanecerão no meu amor, assim como também eu tenho guardado os mandamentos de meu Pai e no seu amor permaneço. 11 Tenho lhes dito estas coisas para que a minha alegria esteja em vocês, e a alegria de vocês seja completa.

12 — O meu mandamento é este: que vocês amem uns aos outros, assim como eu os amei. 13 Ninguém tem amor maior do que este: de alguém dar a própria vida pelos seus amigos. 14 Vocês são meus amigos se fazem o que eu lhes ordeno. 15 Já não chamo vocês de servos, porque o servo não sabe o que o seu senhor faz; mas tenho chamado vocês de amigos, porque tudo o que ouvi de meu Pai eu lhes dei a conhecer. 16 Não foram vocês que me escolheram; pelo contrário, eu os escolhi e os designei para que vão e deem fruto, e o fruto de vocês permaneça, a fim de que tudo o que pedirem ao Pai em meu nome, ele lhes conceda. 17 O que eu lhes ordeno é isto: que vocês amem uns aos outros.

18 — Se o mundo odeia vocês, saibam que, antes de odiar vocês, odiou a mim. 19 Se vocês fossem do mundo, o mundo amaria o que era seu; mas vocês não são do mundo — pelo contrário, eu dele os escolhi — e, por isso, o mundo odeia vocês. 20 Lembrem-se da palavra que eu disse a vocês: "O servo não é maior do que seu senhor." Se perseguiram a mim, também perseguirão vocês; se guardaram a minha palavra, também guardarão a de vocês. 21 Tudo isso, porém, farão com vocês por causa do meu nome, porque não conhecem aquele que me enviou. 22 Se eu não tivesse vindo e lhes falado, eles não teriam nenhum pecado; mas, agora, não têm desculpa do seu pecado. 23 Quem odeia a mim odeia também o meu Pai. 24 Se eu não tivesse feito entre eles as obras que nenhum outro fez, eles não teriam nenhum pecado; mas, agora, não somente viram como também odiaram tanto a mim como o meu Pai. 25 Isso, porém, é para que se cumpra a palavra escrita na Lei deles: "Odiaram-me sem motivo."

26 — Quando, porém, vier o Consolador, que eu enviarei a vocês da parte do Pai, o Espírito da verdade, que dele procede, esse dará testemunho de mim. 27 E vocês também testemunharão, porque estão comigo desde o princípio.

1 I am the TRUE grapevine, and my Father is the farmer.2 Every branch in me not bearing fruit, he removes it. And every branch that bears fruit, he prunes it, so that it may bear more fruit.3 Now ye are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.4 Dwell in me, and I in you. Just as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it dwells in the grapevine, so neither ye, if ye do not dwell in me.5 I am the grapevine, ye are the branches. He who dwells in me, and I in him, this man bears much fruit, because without me ye can do nothing.6 If any man does not dwell in me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered. And they gather them, and cast them into the fire, and are burned.7 If ye dwell in me, and my sayings dwell in you, ye will ask whatever ye may want, and it will be done to you.8 By this my Father is glorified, that ye may bear much fruit, and ye will become my disciples.9 As the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Dwell ye in my love.10 If ye keep my commandments, ye will dwell in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments, and dwell in his love.11 These things I have spoken to you that my joy may dwell in you, and your joy may be full.12 This is my commandment, that ye love each other, just as I have loved you.13 Greater love has no man than this, that some man lay down his life for his friends.14 Ye are my friends, if ye do as many things as I command you.15 I no longer call you bondmen, because the bondman does not know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, because all things that I heard from my Father, I made known to you.16 Ye did not choose out me, but I chose out you, and appointed you, so that ye should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit may remain, so that anything whatever ye may ask of the Father in my name, he may give you.17 These things I command you, so that ye may love each other.18 If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before you.19 If ye were of the world, the world would love its own, but because ye are not of the world (instead I chose you out of the world), because of this the world hates you.20 Remember the word that I said to you, A bondman is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.21 But all these things they will do to you because of my name, because they have not known him who sent me.22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.23 He who hates me hates my Father also.24 If I had not done among them the works that no other man has done, they would not have had sin, but now they have both seen and hated both me and my Father.25 But, that the word that is written in their law may be fulfilled, They hated me without cause.26 But when the helper comes whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify about me.27 And ye also testify, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
