A Prophecy Against Cush
1 Woe to the land of whirring wings18:1 Or of locusts
along the rivers of Cush,18:1 That is, the upper Nile region
2 which sends envoys by sea
in papyrus boats over the water.
Go, swift messengers,
to a people tall and smooth-skinned,
to a people feared far and wide,
an aggressive nation of strange speech,
whose land is divided by rivers.
3 All you people of the world,
you who live on the earth,
when a banner is raised on the mountains,
you will see it,
and when a trumpet sounds,
you will hear it.
4 This is what the Lord says to me:
"I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling place,
like shimmering heat in the sunshine,
like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest."
5 For, before the harvest, when the blossom is gone
and the flower becomes a ripening grape,
he will cut off the shoots with pruning knives,
and cut down and take away the spreading branches.
6 They will all be left to the mountain birds of prey
and to the wild animals;
the birds will feed on them all summer,
the wild animals all winter.
7 At that time gifts will be brought to the Lord Almighty
from a people tall and smooth-skinned,
from a people feared far and wide,
an aggressive nation of strange speech,
whose land is divided by rivers—
the gifts will be brought to Mount Zion, the place of the Name of the Lord Almighty.
Profecia contra Cuxe

ao longo dos rios de Cuxe,
2 que manda emissários pelo mar
em barcos de papiro sobre as águas.
Vão, ágeis mensageiros,
a um povo alto e de pele macia,
a um povo temido pelos que estão perto e pelos que estão longe,

3 Todos vocês, habitantes do mundo,
vocês que vivem na terra,
quando a bandeira for erguida
sobre os montes, vocês a verão;
quando soar a trombeta,
vocês a ouvirão.
4 Assim me diz o Senhor:
"Do lugar onde moro, olharei quieto,
como o calor causado pela luz radiante,
como a nuvem de orvalho no calor do tempo da colheita".
5 Pois antes da colheita, quando a floração der lugar ao fruto
e as uvas amadurecerem,
ele cortará os brotos com as podadeiras
e tirará os ramos longos.
6 Todos serão entregues às aves de rapina das montanhas
e aos animais selvagens;
as aves de rapina se alimentarão deles durante o verão,
e os animais selvagens, durante o inverno.
7 Naquela ocasião, dádivas serão trazidas ao Senhor dos Exércitos
da parte de um povo alto e de pele macia,
da parte de um povo temido pelos que estão perto e pelos que estão longe,
uma nação agressiva e de fala estranha,
cuja terra é dividida por rios.
As dádivas serão trazidas ao monte Sião, ao local do nome do Senhor dos Exércitos.
