1-3 O Senhor, o Deus de Israel, me disse o seguinte:

— Jeremias, escreva num livro tudo o que eu lhe falei, pois está chegando a hora de eu fazer voltar o meu povo, tanto Israel como Judá. Vou trazê-los de volta para a terra que dei aos seus antepassados, e eles serão donos dela novamente. Eu, o Senhor, falei.

4 O Senhor Deus diz o seguinte a respeito de Israel e de Judá:

5 "Ouvi um grito de terror,

grito de medo e não de paz.

6 Parem e pensem!

Será que um homem pode dar à luz uma criança?

Então por que vejo todos esses homens com as mãos na barriga,

como a mulher que está com dores de parto?

Por que estão todos tão pálidos?

7 Está chegando um dia horrível!

Nenhum outro dia pode ser comparado com ele.

Para os descendentes de Jacó, será um tempo de aflição,

mas eles serão salvos dela."

8 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso diz:

— Quando esse dia chegar, eu quebrarei a canga que está no pescoço deles e arrancarei as suas correntes. Então eles não serão mais escravos de estrangeiros. 9 Pelo contrário, servirão a mim, o Senhor, seu Deus, e também ao descendente de Davi, que eu lhes darei como rei.

10 "Descendentes do meu servo Jacó, não tenham medo!

Povo de Israel, não fique assustado!

Eu os libertarei dessa terra distante,

da terra onde vocês são prisioneiros.

Os descendentes de Jacó voltarão

e viverão em paz;

viverão em segurança,

e ninguém fará com que fiquem com medo.

Sou eu, o Senhor, quem está falando.

11 Estarei com vocês para salvá-los.

Acabarei com todas as nações

por onde os espalhei,

mas vocês não serão destruídos.

Vocês não ficarão sem castigo;

mas, quando eu os castigar,

não serei duro demais.

Eu, o Senhor, estou falando."

12 O Senhor diz à cidade de Jerusalém:

"O mal deste povo não tem cura,

e as suas feridas não saram.

13 Não existe ninguém para cuidar de você.

Não há remédio para as suas feridas,

não há esperança de cura.

14 Todos os seus amantes a esqueceram

e não lhe dão confiança.

Eu a ataquei como se você fosse um inimigo;

o seu castigo tem sido duro

porque os seus pecados são muitos,

e a sua maldade é grande.

15 Não se queixe mais por causa dos seus ferimentos,

pois eles não têm cura.

Eu a castiguei assim

porque os seus pecados são muitos,

e a sua maldade é grande.

16 Mas agora todos os que a destruíram serão destruídos,

e todos os seus inimigos serão levados como prisioneiros.

Todos os que a perseguiram serão perseguidos,

e todos os que a assaltaram serão assaltados.

17 Os seus inimigos dizem:

‘Sião é desprezada,

ninguém se importa com ela!’

Mas eu lhe darei saúde novamente

e curarei as suas feridas.

Eu, o Senhor, estou falando."

18 O Senhor diz:

"Eu trarei os descendentes de Jacó de volta para a sua terra

e terei misericórdia de cada família.

Jerusalém será construída de novo,

e no palácio morará gente outra vez.

19 As pessoas que vivem ali cantarão louvores

e darão gritos de alegria.

Farei com que cresçam em número

e sejam tratadas com respeito.

20 A nação se firmará como antigamente,

e a sua gente será forte de novo.

Eu castigarei todos os que a fazem sofrer.

21,22 O seu governador virá do seu próprio povo,

será uma pessoa da própria nação.

Quando eu o convidar,

ele chegará perto de mim;

ninguém teria a coragem de vir sem ser convidado.

Eles serão o meu povo,

e eu serei o seu Deus.

Eu, o Senhor, falei."

23,24 A ira do Senhor é uma tempestade, um vento forte que explodirá em cima da cabeça dos maus. E essa ira não acabará até que Deus faça tudo o que planejou. No futuro, o seu povo compreenderá isso muito bem.

1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,2 "Thus speaks the Lord, the God of Israel, saying, 'Write all the words that I have spoken to you in a book.3 For, behold, the days come, says the Lord, that I will turn again the captivity of my people Israel and Judah,' says the Lord; 'and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.'"4 These are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah.5 For thus says the Lord: "We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace.6 Ask now, and see whether a man does travail with child: why do I see every man with his hands on his waist, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.8 It shall come to pass in that day," says the Lord of hosts, "that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds; and strangers shall no more make him their bondservant;9 but they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up to them.10 Therefore do not be afraid, O Jacob my servant, says the Lord; neither be dismayed, Israel: for, behold, I will save you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.11 For I am with you, says the Lord, to save you: for I will make a full end of all the nations where I have scattered you, but I will not make a full end of you; but I will correct you in measure, and will in no way leave you unpunished."12 For thus says the Lord, "Your hurt is incurable, and your wound grievous.13 There is none to plead your cause, that you may be bound up: you have no healing medicines.14 All your lovers have forgotten you; they do not seek you: for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins were increased.15 Why do you cry for your hurt? Your pain is incurable: for the greatness of your iniquity, because your sins were increased, I have done these things to you.16 Therefore all those who devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, everyone of them, shall go into captivity; and those who despoil you shall be a spoil, and all who prey on you will I give for a prey.17 For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds," says the Lord; "because they have called you an outcast, saying, 'It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.'"18 Thus says the Lord: "Behold, I will turn again the captivity of Jacob's tents, and have compassion on his dwelling places; and the city shall be built on its own hill, and the palace shall be inhabited in its own way.19 Out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of those who make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.20 Their children also shall be as before, and their congregation shall be established before me; and I will punish all who oppress them.21 Their prince shall be of themselves, and their ruler shall proceed from their midst; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach to me: for who is he who has had boldness to approach to me? says the Lord.22 You shall be my people, and I will be your God.23 Behold, the storm of the Lord, his wrath, has gone forth, a sweeping storm: it shall burst on the head of the wicked.24 The fierce anger of the Lord will not return, until he has executed, and until he has performed the intentions of his heart. In the latter days you will understand it.
