1 O Senhor Deus disse o seguinte a respeito dos amonitas:

— Onde estão os homens de Israel? Será que não há alguém que defenda a terra que Deus lhes deu para ser sua propriedade? Por que foi que deixaram que o deus Moloque tomasse a terra da tribo de Gade e que os seus adoradores fossem morar lá? 2 Mas está chegando o dia em que farei o povo da cidade de Rabá ouvir barulho de guerra. Essa cidade amonita ficará arrasada, e os seus povoados serão destruídos pelo fogo. Então o povo de Israel tomará outra vez a sua terra daqueles que a tomaram dele. Sou eu, o Senhor, quem está falando. 3 Grite, povo de Hesbom! A cidade de Ai está destruída! Chorem, mulheres de Rabá! Vistam roupa feita de pano grosseiro e lamentem. Corram de um lado para outro, sem rumo. Moloque, o deus de vocês, será levado como prisioneiro, junto com os seus sacerdotes e todas as autoridades. 4 Povo infiel, por que é que vocês se gabam? O seu poder está no fim. Por que é que vocês confiam na sua própria força e dizem que ninguém terá coragem de atacá-los? 5 De todos os lados, eu vou fazer com que o terror caia sobre vocês, e todos fugirão. Correrão para salvar a vida, e não ficará ninguém para reunir de novo as suas tropas. Sou eu, o Senhor, o Deus Todo-Poderoso, quem está falando.

6 — Porém no futuro farei com que os amonitas voltem a ser o que eram antes. Eu, o Senhor, estou falando.

7 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso disse o seguinte a respeito do país de Edom:

— Será que o povo da cidade de Temã perdeu o juízo? Será que os seus conselheiros não sabem mais dar conselhos? A sabedoria deles acabou? 8 Moradores de Dedã, virem e corram! Fujam e se escondam! Eu vou destruir os descendentes de Esaú, pois chegou a hora de castigá-los. 9 Quando alguém colhe uvas, sempre deixa algumas nos pés; e, quando os ladrões chegam de noite, levam apenas o que interessa. 10 Mas eu tirei todos os tesouros dos descendentes de Esaú e acabei com os seus esconderijos, e assim eles não podem mais se esconder. O povo de Edom e os seus parentes e vizinhos estão destruídos. Não escapou ninguém. 11 Deixem os seus órfãos comigo, que eu tomarei conta deles. As suas viúvas podem confiar em mim.

12 O Senhor disse ainda:

— Se até os que não mereciam foram castigados, será que você está pensando que ficará sem castigo? É claro que você também será castigado. 13 Eu mesmo jurei que a cidade de Bosra vai se tornar um espetáculo horrível e um lugar deserto; os outros vão zombar dela e usar o seu nome para rogar pragas. E todos os povoados em volta da cidade ficarão arrasados para sempre. Eu, o Senhor, estou falando.

14 Então eu disse:

— Recebi uma mensagem de Deus, o Senhor. Ele enviou um mensageiro para dizer às nações o seguinte: "Reúnam os seus exércitos e ataquem Edom!" 15 O Senhor fará de você, Edom, uma nação fraca, e ninguém o respeitará. 16 O seu orgulho o enganou. Não pense que alguém tem medo de você. Você vive nas cavernas das rochas, lá no alto da montanha; mas, embora more tão alto como uma águia, o Senhor o derrubará. Eu, o Senhor, estou falando.

17 O Senhor disse:

— Cairá sobre Edom uma destruição tão horrível, que todos os que passarem ficarão espantados e horrorizados com o que virem. 18 Acontecerá com Edom o que aconteceu com Sodoma e Gomorra, quando foram destruídas junto com as cidades vizinhas. Ninguém viverá mais lá, nem mesmo por pouco tempo. Sou eu, o Senhor, quem está falando. 19 Assim como um leão sai da floresta na beira do rio Jordão e sobe até a terra de pastos verdes, assim eu virei e farei com que os edomitas fujam correndo da sua terra. Então o chefe que eu escolher governará a nação. Quem pode se comparar comigo? Quem tem coragem de me desafiar? Que governador poderia me enfrentar? 20 Por isso, prestem atenção no plano que eu, o Senhor, fiz contra o povo de Edom; escutem o que vou fazer com os moradores da cidade de Temã. Até as crianças e os velhinhos serão arrastados, e todos ficarão horrorizados. 21 Quando Edom cair, o barulho será tão grande, que a terra tremerá, e os gritos de pavor serão ouvidos até no golfo de Ácaba. 22 O inimigo atacará a cidade de Bosra como uma águia que, com as asas abertas, se atira lá do alto contra a sua vítima. Naquele dia, os soldados de Edom terão tanto medo como a mulher que está com dores de parto.

23 O Senhor Deus disse o seguinte a respeito de Damasco:

— Os moradores das cidades de Hamate e Arpade estão preocupados e assustados porque ouviram más notícias. O medo rola em cima deles como o mar, e eles não têm descanso. 24 O povo de Damasco está fraco e virou para fugir apavorado. Estão cheios de dor e de angústia como uma mulher que está com dores de parto. 25 Essa famosa cidade, que era feliz, agora está completamente abandonada. 26 Portanto, naquele dia os moços e todos os soldados serão mortos nas ruas da cidade. Sou eu, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso, quem está falando. 27 Eu queimarei as muralhas de Damasco, e o fogo destruirá os palácios de Ben-Hadade.

28 O Senhor Deus disse o seguinte a respeito da tribo de Quedar e das autoridades da cidade de Hazor, que foram derrotadas pelo rei Nabucodonosor, da Babilônia:

— Saiam e ataquem o povo de Quedar; destruam essa tribo do Oriente! 29 Peguem as suas barracas, os seus rebanhos, as cortinas das suas barracas e tudo o que encontrarem nelas. Tomem os seus camelos e digam: "Em toda parte, o povo está com medo!"

30 — Povo de Hazor, eu, o Senhor, estou avisando vocês: fujam para longe e se escondam. O rei Nabucodonosor, da Babilônia, que planejou atacá-los, diz o seguinte: 31 "Vamos! Ataquem aquela gente que pensa que está firme e segura! A cidade deles fica longe das outras e não tem portões nem fechaduras." Sou eu, o Senhor, quem está falando.

32 — Tomem os camelos e todo o gado deles! Eu espalharei por toda parte essa gente que corta o cabelo bem curto e farei com que a desgraça caia sobre eles de todos os lados. Sou eu, o Senhor, quem está falando. 33 Hazor vai virar para sempre um deserto, um lugar onde somente lobos viverão. Ninguém vai morar ali, nem por pouco tempo.

34 Logo depois que Zedequias se tornou rei de Judá, o Senhor Deus me falou sobre o país de Elão. 35 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso disse:

— Eu matarei todos os flecheiros que fizeram de Elão um país poderoso. 36 Farei com que os ventos soprem de todos os lados contra Elão, e o seu povo se espalhará por toda parte, até que não haja mais nenhum país para onde eles não tenham fugido. 37 Vou fazer com que o povo de Elão fique com medo dos seus inimigos, daqueles que os querem matar. Na minha grande ira, eu acabarei com eles; mandarei exércitos contra eles até que sejam completamente destruídos. Sou eu, o Senhor, quem está falando. 38 Destruirei os reis e os líderes de Elão e colocarei ali o meu trono. 39 Porém no futuro farei com que o país de Elão volte a ser como era antes. Eu, o Senhor, falei.

1 Of the children of Ammon. "Thus says the Lord: 'Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why then does Malcam possess Gad, and his people dwell in its cities?2 Therefore behold, the days come,' says the Lord, 'that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the children of Ammon; and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire: then shall Israel possess those who possessed him,' says the Lord.3 'Wail, Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste; cry, you daughters of Rabbah, clothe yourself in sackcloth: lament, and run back and forth among the fences; for Malcam shall go into captivity, his priests and his princes together.4 Why do you glory in the valleys, your flowing valley, backsliding daughter? You who trusted in her treasures, saying, "Who shall come to me?"5 Behold, I will bring a fear on you,' says the Lord, the Lord of hosts, 'from all who are around you; and you shall be driven out every man right forth, and there shall be none to gather together the fugitives.6 But afterward I will bring back the captivity of the children of Ammon,' says the Lord."7 Of Edom. "Thus says the Lord of hosts: 'Is wisdom no more in Teman? Is counsel perished from the prudent? Is their wisdom vanished?8 Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths, inhabitants of Dedan; for I will bring the calamity of Esau on him, the time that I shall visit him.9 If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? If thieves by night, wouldn't they destroy until they had enough?10 But I have made Esau bare, I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself: his seed is destroyed, and his brothers, and his neighbors; and he is no more.11 Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive; and let your widows trust in me.'12 For thus says the Lord: 'Behold, they to whom it did not pertain to drink of the cup shall certainly drink; and are you he who shall altogether go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink.13 For I have sworn by myself,' says the Lord, 'that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse; and all its cities shall be perpetual wastes.'"14 I have heard news from the Lord, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, "Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle."15 "For, behold, I have made you small among the nations, and despised among men.16 As for your terror, the pride of your heart has deceived you, O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, who hold the height of the hill: though you should make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there," says the Lord.17 "Edom shall become an astonishment: everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all its plagues.18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities of it," says the Lord, "no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man live therein.19 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoever is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? And who will appoint me a time? And who is the shepherd who will stand before me?20 Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord, that he has taken against Edom; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them.21 The earth trembles at the noise of their fall; there is a cry, the noise which is heard in the Red Sea.22 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah: and the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs."23 Of Damascus. "Hamath is confounded, and Arpad; for they have heard evil news, they are melted away: there is sorrow on the sea; it can't be quiet.24 Damascus has grown feeble, she turns herself to flee, and trembling has seized on her: anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in travail.25 How is the city of praise not forsaken, the city of my joy?26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be brought to silence in that day," says the Lord of hosts.27 "I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben Hadad."28 Of Kedar, and of the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon struck. "Thus says the Lord: 'Arise, go up to Kedar, and destroy the children of the east.'29 Their tents and their flocks shall they take; they shall carry away for themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels; and they shall cry to them, 'Terror on every side!'30 Flee, wander far off, dwell in the depths, you inhabitants of Hazor," says the Lord; "for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, and has conceived a purpose against you."31 "Arise, go up to a nation that is at ease, that dwells without care, says the Lord; that have neither gates nor bars, that dwell alone.32 Their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their livestock a spoil: and I will scatter to all winds those who have the corners of their beards cut off; and I will bring their calamity from every side of them," says the Lord.33 "Hazor shall be a dwelling place of jackals, a desolation forever: no man shall dwell there, neither shall any son of man live therein."34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,35 "Thus says the Lord of hosts: 'Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.36 On Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of the sky, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation where the outcasts of Elam shall not come.37 I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before those who seek their life; and I will bring evil on them, even my fierce anger,' says the Lord; 'and I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them;38 and I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from there king and princes,' says the Lord.39 'But it shall happen in the latter days, that I will bring back the captivity of Elam,' says the Lord."
