1 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:

— Corte duas placas de pedra iguais àquelas que você quebrou, e eu escreverei nelas as mesmas palavras que estavam nas primeiras. 2 Amanhã cedo esteja pronto para subir o monte Sinai a fim de se encontrar comigo ali no alto do monte. 3 Ninguém deverá subir com você; ninguém deverá estar em qualquer parte do monte. As ovelhas, as cabras e o gado não deverão ficar pastando perto do monte.

4 Então Moisés cortou outras duas placas de pedra, iguais às primeiras, e, no dia seguinte, como o Senhor havia ordenado, ele se levantou bem cedo e subiu o monte Sinai, levando consigo as duas placas.

5 O Senhor desceu numa nuvem, ficou ali com Moisés e disse qual era o seu nome, isto é, o Senhor. 6 Então Deus passou diante de Moisés e disse em voz alta:

— Eu sou o Senhor, o Deus Eterno! Eu tenho compaixão e misericórdia, não fico irado com facilidade, e a minha fidelidade e o meu amor são tão grandes, que não podem ser medidos. 7 Cumpro a minha promessa a milhares de gerações e perdoo o mal e o pecado. Porém não deixo de castigar os seus filhos e até os netos, os bisnetos e os trinetos pelos pecados dos pais.

8 Moisés se ajoelhou, encostou o rosto no chão e adorou a Deus. 9 Ele disse:

— Ó Senhor, se estás, de fato, contente comigo, eu te peço que vás conosco. Este povo é teimoso, mas perdoa o nosso pecado e a nossa maldade e aceita-nos como o teu povo.

10 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:

— Eu estou fazendo agora uma aliança com o seu povo. Na presença deles farei maravilhas como nunca foram feitas em toda a terra e em nenhuma nação. Todo o povo verá que milagres eu, o Senhor, posso fazer, pois vou realizar uma coisa terrível em favor de vocês. 11 Obedeçam às leis que estou dando a vocês hoje. Conforme vocês forem avançando, eu expulsarei os amorreus, os cananeus, os heteus, os perizeus, os heveus e os jebuseus. 12 Não façam nenhum acordo com os moradores da terra para onde vocês vão, pois isso poderia ser uma armadilha mortal para vocês. 13 Pelo contrário, derrubem os altares deles, destruam as colunas do deus Baal e cortem os postes da deusa Aserá.

14 — Não adorem nenhum outro deus, pois eu, o Senhor, me chamo Deus Exigente e exijo que vocês adorem somente a mim. 15 Não façam acordos com os moradores da terra que vai ser de vocês. Nos seus cultos eles adoram deuses pagãos e lhes oferecem sacrifícios. Eles vão convidar vocês para as suas reuniões religiosas, e vocês poderão ficar tentados a comer os alimentos que eles oferecem aos seus deuses. 16 Os filhos de vocês poderiam casar com mulheres estrangeiras, e elas fariam com que vocês fossem infiéis a mim e adorassem os deuses pagãos que elas adoram.

17 — Não façam deuses de metal, nem os adorem.

18 — Comemorem a Festa dos Pães sem Fermento. Como lhes ordenei, comam pão sem fermento durante sete dias no mês de abibe, que é o tempo certo, pois foi nesse mês que vocês saíram do Egito.

19 — Todo primeiro filho é meu e também o primeiro filhote macho dos animais domésticos. 20 Mas, se vocês quiserem ficar com o primeiro filhote macho de uma jumenta, ofereçam-me um carneiro; se não quiserem, quebrem o pescoço do jumentinho. Para ficarem com todo primeiro filho de vocês, paguem o preço determinado .

— Ninguém deverá aparecer diante de mim sem trazer uma oferta.

21 — Vocês têm seis dias para trabalhar, porém não trabalhem no sétimo dia, nem mesmo no tempo de arar ou de fazer a colheita.

22 — Comemorem a Festa da Colheita quando começarem a fazer a primeira colheita do trigo. E comemorem a Festa das Barracas no outono, quando vocês colherem as suas frutas.

23 — Três vezes por ano todos os homens israelitas deverão ir adorar a mim, o Senhor, o Deus do povo de Israel. 24 Eu vou expulsar as outras nações que estão diante de vocês e assim aumentarei o seu território; então ninguém tentará conquistar a terra de vocês durante as três festas, quando vocês vierem me adorar.

25 — Quando me oferecerem um animal em sacrifício, não tragam pão feito com fermento, nem guardem para o dia seguinte o que sobrar do animal oferecido na Festa da Páscoa.

26 — Todos os anos levem à casa do Senhor, seu Deus, os primeiros cereais que vocês colherem.

— Não cozinhem um cabrito ou um carneirinho no leite da sua própria mãe .

27 O Senhor Deus disse ainda a Moisés:

— Escreva essas palavras porque é com base nelas que estou fazendo uma aliança com você e com o povo de Israel.

28 Moisés ficou ali com Deus, o Senhor, quarenta dias e quarenta noites e durante esse tempo não comeu nem bebeu nada. Ele escreveu nas placas de pedra as palavras da aliança, isto é, os dez mandamentos.

29 Quando Moisés desceu do monte Sinai, carregando as duas placas da aliança, o seu rosto estava brilhando, pois ele havia falado com Deus. Mas ele não sabia disso. 30 Arão e todo o povo ficaram com medo de chegar perto de Moisés quando viram o seu rosto brilhando. 31 Porém Moisés os chamou, e Arão e todos os líderes do povo chegaram perto dele, e ele falou com todos. 32 Depois disso todo o povo de Israel se reuniu em volta de Moisés, e ele lhes entregou todas as leis que o Senhor Deus lhe tinha dado no monte Sinai. 33 Quando Moisés acabou de falar com eles, ele cobriu o rosto com um véu. 34 Sempre que entrava na Tenda Sagrada para falar com o Senhor, Moisés tirava o véu. Quando saía, ele contava ao povo de Israel tudo o que Deus lhe havia mandado dizer, 35 e o povo via que o seu rosto continuava brilhando. Porém Moisés cobria de novo o rosto com o véu até que entrava de novo na Tenda para falar com Deus.

1 And Yahweh said unto MosesHew thee two tables of stone, like the first,and I will write upon the tables the words which were upon the first tables which thou didst break in pieces;

2 and be thou ready by the morning,and thou shalt come up. in the morning, into Mount Sinai; then shalt thou station thyself for me there upon the top of the mount;

3 and, no man, may come up with thee, and let no man so much as be seen in all the mount,and let not even the flocks or the herds, feed in front of that mountain.

4 So he hewed two tables of stone like the first and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up into Mount Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him,and took in his hand two tables of stone.

5 And Yahweh descended in the cloud, and took his station with him there,and proclaimed himself by the name Yahweh.

6 So Yahweh passed before him, and proclaimed,Yahweh, Yahweh, A God of compassion and favour,Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and faithfulness:

7 Keeping lovingkindness to a thousand generations, Forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, Though he leave not, utterly unpunished, Visiting the iniquity of fathers, Upon sons, And upon sons sons, Unto a third and unto a fourth generation.

8 Then Moses made haste,and bent his head towards the earth and bowed himself down;

9 and saidIf, I pray thee, I have found favour in thine eyes, O My Lord, I pray thee let My Lord go on in our midst,although a stiff-necked people, it is, so wilt thou pardon our iniquity and our sin and take us as thine own.

10 And he saidLo! I, am about to solemnise a covenant,-in presence of all thy people, will I do marvellous things, which have not been created in any part of the earth nor among any of the nations,so shall all the people in whose midst thou, art see the work of Yahweh for a fearful thing, it is, which I, am doing with thee.

11 Take thou heed what, I, am commanding thee this day,behold me! driving out from before theethe Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 Take heed to thyself, Lest thou solemnise a covenant with the inhabitant of the land, whereupon, thou, art about to enter,Lest he become a snare in thy midst;

13 For their altars, shall ye smash, And their pillars, shall ye shiver,And their sacred-stems, shall ye fell.

14 For thou shalt not bow thyself down to another GOD,For as for Yahweh, Jealous, is his name, A jealous GOD, he is:

15 Lest thou solemnise a covenant with the inhabitant of the land,And then as surely as they go unchastely after their gods and sacrifice to their gods, So surely will he invite thee, And thou wilt eat of his sacrifice;

16 And thou wilt take of his daughters for thy sons,And his daughters will go unchastely after their gods, And will cause thy sons to go unchastely after their gods.

17 Molten gods, shalt thou not make to thee.

18 The festival of unleavened cakes, shalt thou keep, seven days, shalt thou eat unleavened cakes, which I commanded thee, at the set time, in the month Abib,for in the month Abib, camest thou forth out of Egypt.

19 Every one that is the first to be born, is mine,and every one of thy cattle that is born a male, firstling of oxen or sheep.

20 But the firstling of an ass, thou mayst redeem with a lamb, and if thou wilt not redeem it, then shalt thou break its neck. Every firstborn of thy sons, shalt thou redeem, and he must not see my face, with empty hand.

21 Six days, shalt thou labour, but on the seventh day, shalt thou rest,in plowing time and in harvest, shalt thou rest.

22 And the festival of weeks, shalt thou make to thee, the firstfruits of the wheat harvest,and the festival of ingathering, at the closing in of the year:

23 three times in the year, shall every one of thy males see the face of the Lord Yahweh the God of Israel.

24 For I will root out nations from before thee, and will enlarge thy borders,and no man shall covet thy land, when thou goes up to see the face of Yahweh thy God, three times in the year.

25 Thou shalt not slay, along with anything leavened, the blood of my sacrifice,neither shall remain to the morning, the sacrifice of the festival of the passover.

26 The beginning of the firstfruits of thy ground, shalt thou bring into the house of Yahweh, thy God, Thou shalt not boil a kid, in the milk of its dam.

27 And Yahweh said unto Moses, Write for thyself these words, for according to the tenor of these words, have I solemnized with thee, a covenant, and with Israel.

28 So then he was there, with Yahweh, forty days and forty nights, bread, did he not eat and, water, did he not drink, and he wrote upon the tables, the words of the covenant, the ten words.

29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down out of Mount Sinai, with the two tables of testimony in the hand of Moses, when he came down out of the mount, that, Moses, knew not that the skin of his face shone, through his having spoken with him.

30 And Aaron and all the sons of Israel saw Moses, and lo! the skin of his face shone, and they stood in awe of drawing nigh unto him.

31 So then Moses called unto them, and Aaron and all the princes in the assembly returned unto him,and Moses spake unto them.

32 And afterwards, came nigh, all the sons of Israel, and he gave them in commandment all that Yahweh had spoken with him in Mount Sinai.

33 And when Moses had made an end of speaking with them, he put over his face a veil:

34 but, as often as Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with him, be put aside the veil until he came out,and, as often as he came out and spake unto the sons of Israel, that which he had been commanded,

35 the sons of Israel saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses face shone,so Moses again put the veil over his face, until he went in to speak with him.
