1 E Jesus disse ainda:

— Eu digo isso para que vocês não abandonem a sua fé. 2 Vocês serão expulsos das sinagogas, e chegará o tempo em que qualquer um que os matar pensará que está fazendo a vontade de Deus. 3 Eles vão fazer essas coisas porque não conhecem nem o Pai nem a mim. 4 Mas eu digo isso para que, quando essas coisas acontecerem, vocês lembrem que eu já os tinha avisado.

E Jesus continuou:

— Eu não disse isso antes, porque ainda estava com vocês. 5 Porém agora eu vou para junto daquele que me enviou. E nenhum de vocês me pergunta: "Aonde é que o senhor vai?" 6 Mas, porque eu disse isso, o coração de vocês ficou cheio de tristeza. 7 Eu falo a verdade quando digo que é melhor para vocês que eu vá. Pois, se não for, o Auxiliador não virá; mas, se eu for, eu o enviarei a vocês. 8 Quando o Auxiliador vier, ele convencerá as pessoas do mundo de que elas têm uma ideia errada a respeito do pecado e do que é direito e justo e também do julgamento de Deus. 9 As pessoas do mundo estão erradas a respeito do pecado porque não creem em mim; 10 estão erradas a respeito do que é direito e justo porque eu vou para o Pai, e vocês não vão me ver mais. 11 E também estão erradas a respeito do julgamento porque aquele que manda neste mundo já está julgado.

12 — Ainda tenho muitas coisas para lhes dizer, mas vocês não poderiam suportar isso agora. 13 Porém, quando o Espírito da verdade vier, ele ensinará toda a verdade a vocês. O Espírito não falará por si mesmo, mas dirá tudo o que ouviu e anunciará a vocês as coisas que estão para acontecer. 14 Ele vai ficar sabendo o que tenho para dizer, e dirá a vocês, e assim ele trará glória para mim. 15 Tudo o que o Pai tem é meu. Por isso eu disse que o Espírito vai ficar sabendo o que eu lhe disser e vai anunciar a vocês.

16 E Jesus disse:

— Daqui a pouco vocês não vão me ver mais; porém, pouco depois, vão me ver novamente.

17 Alguns dos seus discípulos comentaram:

— O que será que ele quer dizer? Ele afirma: "Daqui a pouco vocês não vão me ver mais; porém, pouco depois, vão me ver novamente". E diz também: "É porque vou para o meu Pai". 18 O que quer dizer "pouco depois"? Não entendemos o que isso quer dizer.

19 Jesus, sabendo que eles queriam lhe fazer perguntas, disse:

— Eu afirmei que daqui a pouco vocês não vão me ver mais e que pouco depois vão me ver novamente. Por acaso não é a respeito disso que vocês estão fazendo perguntas uns aos outros? 20 Pois eu afirmo a vocês que isto é verdade: vocês vão chorar e ficar tristes, mas as pessoas do mundo ficarão alegres. Vocês ficarão tristes, mas essa tristeza virará alegria. 21 Quando uma mulher está para dar à luz, ela fica triste porque chegou a sua hora de sofrer. Mas, depois que a criança nasce, a mulher fica tão alegre, que nem lembra mais do seu sofrimento. 22 Assim acontece também com vocês: agora estão tristes, mas eu os verei novamente. Aí vocês ficarão cheios de alegria, e ninguém poderá tirar essa alegria de vocês.

23 — Quando chegar aquele dia, vocês não me pedirão nada. E eu afirmo a vocês que isto é verdade: se vocês pedirem ao Pai alguma coisa em meu nome, ele lhes dará. 24 Até agora vocês não pediram nada em meu nome; peçam e receberão para que a alegria de vocês seja completa.

25 E Jesus terminou, dizendo:

— Eu digo essas coisas a vocês por meio de comparações. Mas chegará o tempo em que não falarei mais por meio de comparações, pois falarei claramente a vocês a respeito do Pai. 26 Naquele dia vocês pedirão coisas em meu nome. E eu digo que não precisarei pedir ao Pai em favor de vocês, 27 pois o próprio Pai os ama. Ele os ama porque vocês, de fato, me amam e creem que vim de Deus. 28 Eu vim do Pai e entrei no mundo. E agora deixo o mundo e vou para o Pai.

29 Então os seus discípulos disseram:

— Agora, sim, o senhor está falando claramente e não por meio de comparações. 30 Sabemos agora que o senhor conhece tudo e não precisa que ninguém lhe faça perguntas. Por isso nós cremos que o senhor veio de Deus.

31 E Jesus respondeu:

— Então agora vocês creem? 32 Pois chegou a hora de vocês todos serem espalhados, cada um para a sua casa; e assim vão me deixar sozinho. Mas eu não estou só, pois o Pai está comigo. 33 Eu digo isso para que, por estarem unidos comigo, vocês tenham paz. No mundo vocês vão sofrer; mas tenham coragem. Eu venci o mundo.

1 These things, have I spoken unto you, that ye may not be caused to stumble:

2 Excommunicants from the synagogue, will they make you; Nay! there cometh an hour, that, every one who killeth you, shall think to be rendering, divine service, unto God!

3 And, these things, will they do, because they got to know, neither the Father nor me.

4 But, these things, have I told you,That, whensoever their hour shall come, ye may remember, that, thereof, I told you. These things, however, I told you not, from the beginning, because I was, with you;

5 But, now, I go my way unto him that sent me, and, not one from among you, questioneth meWhither goest thou?

6 But, because, these things, I have told you, sorrow, hath filled your heart.

7 But, I, the truth, am telling youIt is profitable for you, that, I, depart; for, if I should not depart, The Advocate, would in nowise come unto you, but, if I go, I will send him unto you.

8 And, having come, He, will reprove the worldConcerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment:

9 Concerning sin, indeed, because they are not believing on me;

10 But, concerning righteousness, because, unto the Father, I go my way, and, no longer, do ye behold me;

11 And, concerning judgment, because, the ruler of this world, hath been judged.

12 Yet many things, have I, unto you, to be saying,but ye cannot bear them, just now;

13 Howbeit, as soon as, he, hath comeThe Spirit of truth, he will guide you into all truth; for he will not speak from himself, but, whatsoever he heareth, he will speak, and, the coming things, will he announce unto you.

14 He, shall glorify me; for, of mine, shall he receive, and announce unto you.

15 All things, whatsoever the Father hath, are, my own; therefore, said IOf mine, shall he receive, and announce unto you.

16 A little while, and, no longer, ye behold me; and, again a little while, and ye shall see me.

17 Some of his disciples, therefore, said one to anotherWhat is this which he is saying to us:A little while, and ye behold me not, and, again a little while, and ye shall see me; andBecause I go my way unto the Father?

18 They were saying, thereforeWhat is this which he saith:A little while? We know not what he is saying .

19 Jesus took note, that they were wishing to question him, and said unto themConcerning this, are ye enquiring one with another,because I said:A little while, and ye behold me not, and, again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

20 Verily, verily, I say unto youYe, shall weep and lament, but, the world, shall rejoice: Ye, shall be grieved, but, your grief, into joy, shall be turned.

21 A woman, as soon as she is about to bring forth, hath, grief, because her hour hath come; but, as soon as she hath given birth to the child, no longer, remembereth she the anguish, by reason of the joy, that a human being into the world hath been born.

22 And, ye, therefore, now, indeed have grief; but, again, will I see you, and your heart shall rejoice,and, your joy, no one, shall force from you.

23 And, in that day, shall ye request me, nothing:Verily, verily, I say unto youWhatsoever ye shall ask the Father, He will give you, in my name.

24 Until even now, ye have asked nothing in my name: Be asking, and ye shall receive,that, your joy, may be made full.

25 These things, in similitudes, have I spoken unto you: There cometh an hour, when, no longer in similitudes, will I speak unto you, but, openly, concerning the Father, will I tell you.

26 In that day, In my name, shall ye ask:and I say not that, I, will request the Father for you;

27 For, the Father himself, dearly loveth you, because, ye, have dearly loved me, and believed that, I, from the Father, came forth:

28 I came forth out of the Father, and have come into the world,Again, I leave the world, and go, unto the Father.

29 His disciples saySee! now, openly, art thou speaking, and, not a single similitude, art thou using:

30 Now, we know, that thou knowest all things, and hast, no need, that one be questioning thee. Hereby, do we believe, that, from God, thou camest forth.

31 Jesus answered themAs yet, ye believe:

32 Lo! there cometh an hour, and hath come, that ye should be scattered, each, unto his own home; and, me, alone, should leave;And yet I am not, alone, but, the Father, is, with me!

33 These things, have I spoken unto you, that, in me, ye may have, peace: In the world, ye have, tribulation; but be taking courage,I, have overcome the world.
