1 Assim diz o Senhor: "Onde está a certidão de divórcio de sua mãe com a qual eu a mandei embora? A qual de meus credores eu vendi vocês? Por causa de seus pecados vocês foram vendidos; por causa das transgressões de vocês sua mãe foi mandada embora.2 Quando eu vim, por que não encontrei ninguém? Quando eu chamei, por que ninguém respondeu? Será que meu braço era curto demais para resgatá-los? Será que me falta a força para redimi-los? Com uma simples repreensão eu seco o mar, transformo rios em deserto; seus peixes apodrecem por falta de água e morrem de sede.3 Visto os céus com trevas e faço da veste de lamento a sua coberta".  4 O Soberano Senhor deu-me uma língua instruída, para conhecer a palavra que sustém o exausto. Ele me acorda manhã após manhã, desperta meu ouvido para escutar como alguém que é ensinado.5 O Soberano Senhor abriu os meus ouvidos, e eu não tenho sido rebelde; eu não me afastei.6 Ofereci minhas costas para aqueles que me batiam, meu rosto para aqueles que arrancavam minha barba; não escondi a face da zombaria e da cuspida.7 Porque o Senhor Soberano me ajuda, não serei constrangido. Por isso eu me opus firmemente como pederneira, e sei que não serei envergonhado.8 Aquele que defende o meu nome está perto. Quem então trará acusações contra mim? Encaremo-nos um ao outro! Quem é meu acusador? Que ele me enfrente!9 É o Soberano Senhor que me ajuda. Quem irá me condenar? Todos eles se desgastam como uma roupa; as traças os consumirão.10 Quem entre vocês teme o Senhor e obedece à palavra de seu servo? Que aquele que anda no escuro, que não tem luz alguma, confie no nome do Senhor e dependa de seu Deus.11 Mas agora, todos vocês que acendem fogo e fornecem a si mesmos tochas acesas, vão, andem na luz de seus fogos e das tochas que vocês acenderam. Isso é o que receberão da minha mão: vocês deitarão atormentados.

1 Thus says LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, with which I have put her away? Or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities ye were sold, and for your transgressions your moth2 Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver? Behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea. I make the rivers a wilderness.3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.4 Lord LORD has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with words him who is weary. He awakens morning by morning. He awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.5 Lord LORD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, nor turned away backward.6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to those who plucked off the hair. I did not hide my face from shame and spitting.7 For lord LORD will help me. Therefore I have not been confounded. Therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame.8 He is near who justifies me. Who will content with me? Let us stand up together. Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me.9 Behold, lord LORD will help me. Who is he who shall condemn me? Behold, all they shall grow old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.10 Who is among you that fears LORD, who obeys the voice of his servant? He who walks in darkness, and has no light, let him trust in the name of LORD, and rely upon his God.11 Behold, all ye who kindle a fire, who gird yourselves about with firebrands, walk ye in the flame of your fire, and among the brands that ye have kindled. This ye shall have from my hand. Ye shall lie down in sorrow.
