1 Acerca dos amonitas, assim diz o Senhor: "Por acaso Israel não tem filhos? Será que não tem herdeiros? Por que será então que Moloque se apossou de Gade? Por que seu povo vive nas cidades de Gade?2 Portanto, certamente vêm os dias", declara o Senhor, "em que farei soar o grito de guerra contra Rabá dos amonitas; ela virá a ser uma pilha de ruínas, e os seus povoados ao redor serão incendiados. Então Israel expulsará aqueles que o expulsaram", diz o Senhor.3 "Lamente, ó Hesbom, pois Ai está destruída! Gritem, ó moradores de Rabá! Ponham veste de lamento e chorem! Corram desorientados, pois Moloque irá para o exílio com os seus sacerdotes e os seus oficiais.4 Por que você se orgulha de seus vales? Por que se orgulha de seus vales tão frutíferos? Ó filha infiel! Você confia em suas riquezas e diz: ‘Quem me atacará? ’5 Farei com que você tenha pavor de tudo o que está a sua volta", diz o Senhor, o Senhor dos Exércitos. "Vocês serão dispersos, cada um numa direção, e ninguém conseguirá reunir os fugitivos.6 "Contudo, depois disso, restaurarei a sorte dos amonitas", declara o Senhor.7 Acerca de Edom, assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: "Será que já não há mais sabedoria em Temã? Será que o conselho desapareceu dos prudentes? A sabedoria deles deteriorou-se?8 Voltem-se e fujam, escondam-se em cavernas profundas, vocês que moram em Dedã, pois trarei a ruína sobre Esaú na hora em que eu o castigar.9 Se os que colhem uvas viessem até você, não deixariam eles apenas umas poucas uvas? Se os ladrões viessem durante a noite, não roubariam apenas o quanto desejassem?10 Mas eu despi Esaú e descobri os seus esconderijos, para que ele não mais se esconda. Os seus filhos, parentes e vizinhos foram destruídos. Ninguém restou para dizer:11 ‘Deixe os seus órfãos; eu protegerei a vida deles. As suas viúvas também podem confiar em mim’ ".12 Assim diz o Senhor: "Se aqueles para quem o cálice não era reservado tiveram que bebê-lo, por que você deveria ficar impune? Você não ficará sem castigo, mas irá bebê-lo.13 Eu juro por mim mesmo", declara o Senhor, "que Bozra ficará em ruínas e desolada; ela se tornará objeto de afronta e de maldição, e todas as suas cidades serão ruínas para sempre".14 Ouvi uma mensagem da parte do Senhor: Um mensageiro foi mandado às nações para dizer: "Reúnam-se para atacar Edom! Preparem-se para a batalha! "15 "Agora eu faço de você uma nação pequena entre as demais, desprezada pelos homens.16 O pavor que você inspira e o orgulho de seu coração o enganaram, a você, que vive nas fendas das rochas, que ocupa os altos das colinas. Ainda que você, como a águia, faça o seu ninho nas alturas, de lá eu o derrubarei", declara o Senhor.17 "Edom se tornará objeto de terror; todos os que por ali passarem ficarão chocados e zombarão por causa de todas as suas feridas.18 Como a destruição de Sodoma e Gomorra, e as cidades vizinhas", diz o Senhor, "ninguém mais habitará ali, nenhum homem residirá nela.19 "Assim como um leão que sobe da mata do Jordão em direção aos pastos verdejantes, subitamente eu caçarei Edom para fora de sua terra. Quem é o escolhido que designarei para isso? Quem é como eu que possa me desafiar? E que pastor pode me resistir? "20 Por isso, ouçam o que o Senhor planejou contra Edom, o que preparou contra os habitantes de Temã: Os menores do rebanho serão arrastados, e as pastagens ficarão devastadas por causa deles.21 Ao som de sua queda a terra tremerá; o grito deles ressoará até o mar Vermelho.22 Vejam! Uma águia, subindo e planando, estende as asas sobre Bozra. Naquele dia, a coragem dos guerreiros de Edom será como a de uma mulher dando à luz.23 Acerca de Damasco: "Hamate e Arpade estão atônitas, pois ouviram más notícias. Estão desencorajadas, perturbadas como o mar agitado.24 Damasco tornou-se frágil, ela se virou para fugir, e o pânico tomou conta dela; angústia e dor dela se apoderaram, dor como a de uma mulher em trabalho de parto.25 Como está abandonada a cidade famosa, a cidade da alegria!26 Por isso, os seus jovens cairão nas ruas e todos os seus guerreiros se calarão naquele dia", declara o Senhor dos exércitos.27 "Porei fogo nas muralhas de Damasco, que consumirá as fortalezas de Ben-Hadade. "28 Acerca de Quedar e os reinos de Hazor, que Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, derrotou, assim diz o Senhor: "Preparem-se, ataquem Quedar e destruam o povo do oriente.29 Tomem suas tendas e seus rebanhos, suas cortinas com todos os seus utensílios e camelos. Gritam contra eles: ‘Há terror por todos os lados! ’30 "Fujam rapidamente! Escondam-se em cavernas profundas, vocês habitantes de Hazor", diz o Senhor. "Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, fez planos e projetos contra vocês.31 "Preparem-se e ataquem uma nação que vive tranqüila e confiante", declara o Senhor, "uma nação que não tem portas nem trancas, e que vive sozinha.32 Seus camelos se tornarão despojo e suas grandes manadas, espólio. Espalharei ao vento aqueles que raspam a cabeça, e de todos os lados trarei a ruína deles", declara o Senhor.33 "Hazor se tornará uma habitação de chacais, uma ruína para sempre. Ninguém mais habitará ali, nenhum homem residirá nela. "34 Esta é a palavra do Senhor que veio ao profeta Jeremias acerca de Elão, no início do reinado de Zedequias, rei de Judá:35 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: "Vejam, quebrarei o arco de Elão, a base de seu poder.36 Farei com que os quatro ventos, que vêm dos quatro cantos do céu, soprem contra Elão. E eu os dispersarei aos quatro ventos, e não haverá nenhuma nação para onde os exilados de Elão não forem.37 Farei com que Elão trema diante dos seus inimigos, diante daqueles que desejam tirar-lhes a vida. Trarei a desgraça sobre eles, a minha ira ardente", declara o Senhor. "Farei com que a espada os persiga até que eu os tenha eliminado.38 Porei meu trono em Elão e destruirei seu rei e líderes", declara o Senhor.39 "Contudo restaurarei a sorte de Elão em dias vindouros", declara o Senhor.

1 Concerning the sons of Ammon. Thus says LORD: Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir? Why then does Malcam possess Gad, and his people dwell in the cities thereof?2 Therefore, behold, the days come, says LORD, that I will cause an alarm of war to be heard against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, and it shall become a desolate heap, and her daughters shall be burned with fire. Then Israel shall pos3 Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is laid waste. Cry, ye daughters of Rabbah. Gird you with sackcloth. Lament, and run to and fro among the fences. For Malcam shall go into captivity, his priests and his rulers together.4 Why do thou glory in the valleys, thy flowing valley? O backsliding daughter, who trusted in her treasures, [saying], Who shall come to me?5 Behold, I will bring a fear upon thee, says the Lord, LORD of hosts, from all who are round about thee. And ye shall be driven out every man straight forth, and there shall be none to gather together the fugitives.6 But afterward I will bring back the captivity of the sons of Ammon, says LORD.7 Of Edom. Thus says LORD of hosts: Is wisdom no more in Teman? Has counsel perished from the prudent? Has their wisdom vanished?8 Flee ye, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan. For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him, the time that I shall visit him.9 If grape-gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes? If thieves by night, would they not destroy till they had enough?10 But I have made Esau bare. I have uncovered his secret places, and he shall not be able to hide himself. His seed is destroyed, and his brothers, and his neighbors, and he is not.11 Leave thy fatherless sons; I will preserve them alive. And let thy widows trust in me.12 For thus says LORD: Behold, those to whom it did not pertain to drink of the cup shall assuredly drink. And are thou he who shall go altogether unpunished? Thou shall not go unpunished, but thou shall surely drink.13 For I have sworn by myself, says LORD, that Bozrah shall become an astonishment, a reproach, a waste, and a curse, and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.14 I have heard news from LORD. And an ambassador is sent among the nations, [saying], Gather yourselves together, and come against her, and rise up to the battle.15 For, behold, I have made thee small among the nations, and despised among men.16 As for thy formidableness, the pride of thy heart has deceived thee, O thou who dwells in the clefts of the rock, who holds the height of the hill. Though thou should make thy nest as high as the eagle, I will bring thee down from17 And Edom shall become an astonishment. Everyone who passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss at all the plagues of it.18 As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities thereof, says LORD, no man shall dwell there, nor shall any son of man sojourn in it.19 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation. For I will suddenly make them run away from it. And he who is chosen, him I will appoint over it. For who is like me, and who will app20 Therefore hear ye the counsel of LORD that he has taken against Edom, and his purposes, that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they shall drag them away, [even] the little ones of the flock. Surely he shall m21 The earth trembles at the noise of their fall. There is a cry; the noise of it is heard in the Red Sea.22 Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah. And the heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.23 Of Damascus. Hamath is confounded, and Arpad, for they have heard evil news. They are melted away. There is sorrow on the sea; it cannot be quiet.24 Damascus has grown feeble. She turns herself to flee, and trembling has seized on her. Anguish and sorrows have taken hold of her, as of a woman in travail.25 How is the city of praise not forsaken, the city of my joy?26 Therefore her young men shall fall in her streets, and all the men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, says LORD of hosts.27 And I will kindle a fire in the wall of Damascus, and it shall devour the palaces of Ben-hadad.28 Of Kedar, and of the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote. Thus says LORD: Arise ye. Go up to Kedar, and destroy the sons of the east.29 They shall take their tents and their flocks. They shall carry away for themselves their curtains, and all their vessels, and their camels. And they shall cry to them, Terror on every side!30 Flee ye. Wander far off. Dwell in the depths, O ye inhabitants of Hazor, says LORD. For Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, and has conceived a purpose against you.31 Arise, get you up to a nation that is at ease, that dwells without worry, says LORD, that has neither gates nor bars, that dwells alone.32 And their camels shall be a booty, and the multitude of their cattle a spoil. And I will scatter to all winds those who have the corners [of their hair] cut off. And I will bring their calamity from every side of them, says LORD.33 And Hazor shall be a dwelling-place of jackals, a desolation forever. No man shall dwell there, nor shall any son of man sojourn therein.34 The word of LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,35 Thus says LORD of hosts: Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.36 And upon Elam I will bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds. And there shall be no nation where the outcasts of Elam shall not come.37 And I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before those who seek their life. And I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, says LORD. And I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them.38 And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from there king and rulers, says LORD.39 But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring back the captivity of Elam, says LORD.
