1 " ‘Naquele tempo, declara o Senhor, os ossos dos reis e dos líderes de Judá, os ossos dos sacerdotes e dos profetas e os ossos do povo de Jerusalém serão retirados dos seus túmulos.2 Serão expostos ao sol e à lua e a todos os astros do céu, que eles amaram, aos quais prestaram culto e os quais seguiram, consultaram e adoraram. Não serão ajuntados nem enterrados, mas se tornarão esterco sobre o solo.3 Todos os sobreviventes dessa nação má preferirão a morte à vida, em todos os lugares para onde eu os expulsar, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos’.4 "Diga a eles: ‘Assim diz o Senhor. " ‘Quando os homens caem, não se levantam mais? Quando alguém se desvia do caminho, não retorna a ele?5 Por que será, então, que este povo se desviou? Por que Jerusalém persiste em desviar-se? Eles apegam-se ao engano e recusam-se a voltar.6 Eu ouvi com atenção, mas eles não dizem o que é certo. Ninguém se arrepende de sua maldade e diz: "O que foi que eu fiz? " Cada um se desvia e segue seu próprio curso, como um cavalo que se lança com ímpeto na batalha.7 Até a cegonha no céu conhece as estações que lhe estão determinadas, e a pomba, a andorinha e o tordo observam a época de sua migração. Mas o meu povo não conhece as exigências do Senhor.8 " ‘Como vocês podem dizer "Somos sábios, pois temos a lei do Senhor", quando na verdade a pena mentirosa dos escribas a transformou em mentira?9 Os sábios serão envergonhados; ficarão amedrontados e serão pegos na armadilha. Visto que rejeitaram a palavra do Senhor, que sabedoria é essa que eles têm?10 Por isso, entregarei as suas mulheres a outros homens, e darei os seus campos a outros proprietários. Desde o menor até o maior, todos são gananciosos; tanto os sacerdotes como os profetas, todos praticam a falsidade.11 Eles tratam da ferida do meu povo como se ela não fosse grave. "Paz, paz", dizem, quando não há paz alguma.12 Ficaram eles envergonhados de sua conduta detestável? Não, eles não sentem vergonha, nem mesmo sabem corar. Portanto, cairão entre os que caem; serão humilhados quando eu os castigar, declara o Senhor.13 " ‘Eu quis recolher a colheita deles, declara o Senhor. Mas não há uvas na videira nem figos na figueira; as folhas estão secas. O que lhes dei será tomado deles’.14 "Por que estamos sentados aqui? Reúnam-se! Fujamos para as cidades fortificadas e pereçamos ali! Pois o Senhor, o nosso Deus, condenou-nos a perecer e nos deu água envenenada para beber, porque temos pecado contra ele.15 Esperávamos a paz, mas não veio bem algum; esperávamos um tempo de cura, mas há somente terror.16 O resfolegar dos seus cavalos pode-se ouvir desde Dã; ao relinchar dos seus garanhões a terra toda treme. Vieram para devorar esta terra e tudo o que nela existe, a cidade e todos os que nela habitam.17 "Vejam, estou enviando contra vocês serpentes venenosas, que ninguém consegue encantar; elas morderão vocês, e não haverá remédio", diz o Senhor.18 A tristeza tomou conta de mim; o meu coração desfalece.19 Ouça o grito de socorro da minha filha, do meu povo, grito que se estende por toda esta terra: "O Senhor não está em Sião? Não se acha mais ali o seu rei? " "Por que eles me provocaram à ira com os seus ídolos, com os seus inúteis deuses estrangeiros? "20 Passou a época da colheita, acabou o verão, e não estamos salvos.21 Estou arrasado com a devastação sofrida pelo meu povo. Choro muito, e o pavor se apodera de mim.22 Não há bálsamo em Gileade? Não há médico? Por que, então, não há sinal de cura para a ferida do meu povo?

1 At that time, says LORD, they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his rulers, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their gr2 And they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, which they have loved, and which they have served, and after which they have walked, and which they have sought, and which they have worshipped. T3 And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue that remain of this evil family, that remain in all the places where I have driven them, says LORD of hosts.4 Moreover thou shall say to them, Thus says LORD: Shall men fall, and not rise up again? Shall he turn away, and not return?5 Why then has this people of Jerusalem slid back by a perpetual backsliding? They hold firm deceit. They refuse to return.6 I hearkened and heard, but they did not speak aright. No man repents of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? Everyone turns to his course as a horse that rushes headlong in the battle.7 Yea, the stork in the heavens knows her appointed times, and the turtledove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming, but my people know not the law of LORD.8 How can ye say, We are wise, and the law of LORD is with us? But, behold, the FALSE pen of the scribes has wrought falsely.9 The wise men are put to shame. They are dismayed and taken. Lo, they have rejected the word of LORD, and what manner of wisdom is in them?10 Therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who shall possess them. For everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness. From the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.11 And they have lightly healed the hurt of the daughter of my people, saying, Peace, peace, when there is no peace.12 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No, they were not at all ashamed, nor could they blush. Therefore they shall fall among those who fall. In the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, says LORD.13 I will utterly consume them, says LORD. There shall be no grapes on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade, and [things] I have given them shall pass away from them.14 Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there. For LORD our God has put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against LORD.15 We looked for peace, but no good came, for a time of healing, and, behold, dismay!16 The snorting of his horses is heard from Dan. At the sound of the neighing of his strong ones the whole land trembles. For they have come, and have devoured the land and all that is in it, the city and those who dwell therein.17 For, behold, I will send serpents, adders, among you, which will not be charmed, and they shall bite you, says LORD.18 Oh that I could comfort myself against sorrow! My heart is faint within me.19 Behold, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a land that is very far off: Is not LORD in Zion? Is not her King in her? Why have they provoked me to anger with their graven images, and with foreign vanities?20 The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.21 For the hurt of the daughter of my people I am hurt. I mourn. Dismay has taken hold on me.22 Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then has not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
