João 14

Jesus conforta os seus discípulos

1 — Que o coração de vocês não se perturbe. Creiam em Deus;*14.1 Ou Vocês creem em Deus. creiam também em mim. 2 Na casa do meu Pai há muitos aposentos; se não fosse assim, eu teria dito que vou preparar lugar para vocês? 3 Quando eu for e preparar lugar, voltarei e os levarei comigo, para que vocês estejam onde eu estiver. 4 Vocês sabem o caminho para onde vou.

Jesus, o caminho para o Pai

5 Tomé lhe disse:

— Senhor, não sabemos para onde vais; como, então, podemos saber o caminho?

6 Jesus respondeu:

— Eu sou o caminho, a verdade e a vida. Ninguém vem ao Pai, a não ser por mim. 7 Se vocês tivessem me conhecido, também teriam conhecido*14.7 Há manuscritos que trazem me têm conhecido, também conhecerão. o meu Pai. Desde agora, no entanto, vocês o conhecem e o têm visto.

8 Filipe disse:

— Senhor, mostra-nos o Pai, e isso nos basta.

9 Jesus respondeu:

— Você não me conhece, Filipe, mesmo depois de eu ter estado com vocês durante tanto tempo? Quem vê a mim vê o Pai. Como você pode dizer: "Mostra-nos o Pai"? 10 Você não crê que eu estou no Pai e que o Pai está em mim? As palavras que eu digo a vocês não são apenas minhas. Ao contrário, o Pai, que permanece em mim, é quem realiza a sua obra. 11 Creiam em mim quando digo que estou no Pai e que o Pai está em mim; creiam ao menos por causa das mesmas obras. 12 Em verdade lhes digo que aquele que crê em mim fará também as obras que faço; fará coisas ainda maiores do que estas, porque eu vou para o Pai. 13 E farei o que vocês pedirem em meu nome, para que o Pai seja glorificado no Filho. 14 O que vocês pedirem em meu nome, eu o farei.

Jesus promete o Espírito Santo

15 — Se vocês me amam, obedecerão aos meus mandamentos. 16 E eu pedirei ao Pai, e ele dará a vocês outro Conselheiro,*14.16 Ou Consolador. que esteja com vocês para sempre: 17 o Espírito da verdade. O mundo não pode recebê-lo, porque não o vê nem o conhece. Vocês, porém, o conhecem, pois ele vive com vocês e estará*14.17 Há manuscritos que trazem está. em vocês. 18 Não os deixarei órfãos; voltarei para vocês. 19 Dentro de pouco tempo, o mundo não me verá mais; vocês, porém, me verão. Porque eu vivo, vocês também viverão. 20 Naquele dia, compreenderão que eu estou no meu Pai, que vocês estão em mim e que eu estou em vocês. 21 Quem tem os meus mandamentos e lhes obedece é o que me ama. Aquele que me ama será amado por meu Pai, e eu também o amarei e me revelarei a ele.

22 Então, Judas — não o Iscariotes — disse:

— Senhor, mas por que te revelarás a nós, não ao mundo?

23 Jesus respondeu:

— Se alguém me ama, obedecerá à minha palavra. O meu Pai o amará, e nós viremos a ele e faremos nele*14.23 Ou com ele. morada. 24 Aquele que não me ama não obedece às minhas palavras. Estas palavras que vocês ouvem não são minhas, mas do Pai, que me enviou.

25 — Tudo isso tenho dito enquanto ainda estou com vocês. 26 Contudo, o Conselheiro, o Espírito Santo, que o Pai enviará em meu nome, ensinará a vocês todas as coisas e fará que se lembrem de tudo o que eu disse. 27 Deixo com vocês a paz; a minha paz dou a vocês. Não a dou como o mundo a dá. Não se perturbe o coração de vocês nem tenham medo.

28 — Vocês me ouviram dizer: "Vou, mas volto para vocês". Se vocês me amassem, ficariam contentes porque vou para o Pai, pois o Pai é maior do que eu. 29 Isso eu digo agora, antes que aconteça, para que, quando acontecer, vocês creiam. 30 Já não falarei muito com vocês, pois o príncipe deste mundo está vindo. Ele não tem nenhum domínio sobre mim. 31 Contudo, faço o que o Pai me ordenou para que o mundo saiba que eu amo o Pai.

— Levantem-se; vamo-nos daqui!

1 Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go, ye know the way. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou, Show us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake. 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do. 15 If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever, 17 even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him. 22 Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? 23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.

25 These things have I spoken unto you, while yet abiding with you. 26 But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. 28 Ye heard how I said to you, I go away, and I come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe. 30 I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me; 31 but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
