João 13

Jesus lava os pés dos seus discípulos

1 Um pouco antes da Festa da Páscoa, sabendo Jesus que havia chegado o tempo em que deixaria este mundo e iria para o Pai, tendo amado os seus que estavam no mundo, amou-os até o fim.

2 Estava sendo servido o jantar, e o Diabo já havia induzido Judas Iscariotes, filho de Simão, a trair Jesus. 3 Jesus, sabendo que o Pai havia posto todas as coisas debaixo do seu poder, que viera de Deus e voltava para Deus, 4 levantou-se da mesa, tirou a capa e colocou uma toalha em volta da cintura. 5 Depois disso, derramou água em uma bacia e começou a lavar os pés dos seus discípulos, enxugando-os com a toalha que estava na cintura.

6 Então, chegou até Simão Pedro, que lhe disse:

— Senhor, vais lavar os meus pés?

7 Jesus respondeu:

— Você não compreende agora o que estou fazendo; mais tarde, porém, entenderá.

8 Pedro disse:

— Nunca lavarás os meus pés!

Jesus respondeu:

— Se eu não os lavar, você não tem parte comigo.

9 Simão Pedro respondeu:

— Então, Senhor, não apenas os pés, mas também as mãos e a cabeça!

10 Jesus respondeu:

— Quem já se banhou precisa apenas lavar os pés; todo o corpo está limpo. Vocês estão limpos, mas nem todos.

11 Jesus sabia quem iria traí-lo, por isso disse que nem todos estavam limpos.

12 Quando terminou de lavar-lhes os pés, Jesus vestiu a capa e voltou ao seu lugar. Então, perguntou:

— Entendem o que fiz a vocês? 13 Vocês me chamam "Mestre" e "Senhor", e com razão, pois eu o sou. 14 Pois bem, se eu, sendo Senhor e Mestre de vocês, lavei os pés de vocês, então vocês também devem lavar os pés uns dos outros. 15 Eu dei o exemplo, para que, como eu fiz, também o façam. 16 Em verdade lhes digo que nenhum escravo é maior do que o seu senhor, e nenhum enviado*13.16 Grego: apóstolo. é maior do que aquele que o enviou. 17 Agora que vocês sabem estas coisas, bem-aventurados serão se as praticarem.

Jesus prediz que será traído

18 — Não me refiro a todos vocês; conheço os que escolhi. Mas isto acontece para que se cumpra a Escritura: "Aquele que partilhava do meu pão voltou-se contra mim".*13.18 Grego: levantou o calcanhar contra mim. Sl 41.9.

19 — Estou dizendo isto agora, antes que aconteça, para que, quando acontecer, vocês creiam que Eu Sou.*13.19 Referência ao nome de Deus.20 Em verdade lhes digo que quem recebe aquele que eu enviar recebe a mim; e quem recebe a mim recebe aquele que me enviou.

21 Depois de dizer isso, Jesus perturbou-se profundamente e declarou:

— Em verdade lhes digo que um de vocês me trairá.

22 Então, os seus discípulos olharam uns para os outros sem saber a quem ele se referia. 23 Um deles, o discípulo a quem Jesus amava, estava reclinado ao lado dele. 24 Simão Pedro fez sinais a esse discípulo para que perguntasse a quem Jesus se referia.

25 Reclinando-se esse discípulo sobre o peito de Jesus, perguntou-lhe:

— Senhor, quem é?

26 Jesus respondeu:

— Aquele a quem eu der este pedaço de pão molhado no prato.

Então, molhando o pedaço de pão, deu-o a Judas Iscariotes, filho de Simão. 27 Logo que Judas comeu o pão, Satanás entrou nele.

— O que você está para fazer, faça depressa — disse-lhe Jesus.

28 No entanto, nenhum dos que estavam à mesa entendeu por que Jesus lhe disse isso. 29 Como Judas era o encarregado do dinheiro, alguns pensaram que Jesus lhe dizia que comprasse o necessário para a festa ou que desse algo aos pobres. 30 Então, assim que comeu o pão, Judas saiu. E era noite.

Jesus prediz que Pedro o negará

31 Depois que Judas saiu, Jesus disse:

— Agora o Filho do homem foi glorificado, e Deus foi glorificado nele. 32 Se Deus foi glorificado nele,*13.32 Há manuscritos que não trazem Se Deus foi glorificado nele. Deus também glorificará o Filho nele mesmo e o fará em breve.

33 — Meus filhinhos, estarei com vocês apenas um pouco mais. Vocês procurarão por mim e, como eu disse aos judeus, agora digo a vocês: Para onde eu vou, vocês não podem ir.

34 — Um novo mandamento dou a vocês: Amem uns aos outros. Como eu os amei, vocês devem amar uns aos outros. 35 Deste modo todos saberão que são meus discípulos: se vocês amarem uns aos outros.

36 Simão Pedro lhe perguntou:

— Senhor, para onde vais?

Jesus respondeu:

— Para onde eu vou, vocês não podem me seguir agora, mas me seguirão mais tarde.

37 Pedro perguntou:

— Senhor, por que não posso seguir-te agora? Darei a minha vida por ti!

38 Então, Jesus respondeu:

— Você dará a vida por mim? Em verdade lhe digo que, antes que o galo cante, você me negará três vezes!

1 Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own that were in the world, he loved them unto the end. 2 And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and goeth unto God, 4 riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself. 5 Then he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 6 So he cometh to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter. 8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10 Jesus saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. 11 For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

12 So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? 13 Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them. 18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth my bread lifted up his heel against me. 19 From henceforth I tell you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. 20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in the spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. 22 The disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. 23 There was at the table reclining in Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved. 24 Simon Peter therefore beckoneth to him, and saith unto him, Tell us who it is of whom he speaketh. 25 He leaning back, as he was, on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? 26 Jesus therefore answereth, He it is, for whom I shall dip the sop, and give it him. So when he had dipped the sop, he taketh and giveth it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. 27 And after the sop, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore saith unto him, What thou doest, do quickly. 28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. 29 For some thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus said unto him, Buy what things we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. 30 He then having received the sop went out straightway: and it was night.

31 When therefore he was gone out, Jesus saith, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him; 32 and God shall glorify him in himself, and straightway shall he glorify him. 33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say unto you. 34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

36 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow afterwards. 37 Peter saith unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee even now? I will lay down my life for thee. 38 Jesus answereth, Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
