1 A boa reputação vale mais que grandes riquezas; desfrutar de boa estima vale mais que prata e ouro.2 O rico e o pobre têm isto em comum: O Senhor é o Criador de ambos.3 O prudente percebe o perigo e busca refúgio; o inexperiente segue adiante e sofre as conseqüências.4 A recompensa da humildade e do temor do Senhor são a riqueza, a honra e a vida.5 No caminho do perverso há espinhos e armadilhas; quem quer proteger a própria vida mantém-se longe dele.6 Instrua a criança segundo os objetivos que você tem para ela, e mesmo com o passar dos anos não se desviará deles.7 O rico domina sobre o pobre; quem toma emprestado é escravo de quem empresta.8 Quem semeia a injustiça colhe a maldade; o castigo da sua arrogância será completo.9 Quem é generoso será abençoado, pois reparte o seu pão com o pobre.10 Quando se manda embora o zombador, a briga acaba; cessam as contendas e os insultos.11 Quem ama a sinceridade de coração e se expressa com elegância será amigo do rei.12 Os olhos do Senhor protegem o conhecimento, mas ele frustra as palavras dos infiéis.13 O preguiçoso diz: "Há um leão lá fora! " "Serei morto na rua! "14 A conversa da mulher imoral é uma cova profunda; nela cairá quem estiver sob a ira do Senhor.15 A insensatez está ligada ao coração da criança, mas a vara da disciplina a livrará dela.16 Tanto quem oprime o pobre para enriquecer-se como quem faz cortesia ao rico, com certeza passarão necessidade.17 Preste atenção e ouça os ditados dos sábios; aplique o coração ao meu ensino.18 Será uma satisfação guardá-los no íntimo e tê-los todos na ponta da língua.19 Para que você confie no Senhor, a você hoje ensinarei.20 Já não lhe escrevi conselhos e instruções,21 ensinando-lhe palavras dignas de confiança, para que você responda com a verdade a quem o enviou?22 Não explore os pobres por serem pobres, nem oprima os necessitados no tribunal,23 pois o Senhor será o advogado deles, e despojará da vida os que os despojarem.24 Não se associe com quem vive de mau humor, nem ande em companhia de quem facilmente se ira;25 do contrário você acabará imitando essa conduta e cairá em armadilha mortal.26 Não seja como aqueles que, com um aperto de mãos, empenham-se com outros e se tornam fiadores de dívidas;27 se você não tem como pagá-las, por que correr o risco de perder até a cama em que dorme?28 Não mude de lugar os antigos marcos que limitam as propriedades e que foram colocados por seus antepassados.29 Você já observou um homem habilidoso em seu trabalho? Será promovido ao serviço real; não trabalhará para gente obscura.

1 A [good] name is rather to be chosen than great riches, [And] loving favor rather than silver and gold.2 The rich and the poor meet together: Yahweh is the maker of them all.3 A prudent man sees the evil, and hides himself; But the simple pass on, and suffer for it.4 The reward of humility [and] the fear of Yahweh [Is] riches, and honor, and life.5 Thorns [and] snares are in the way of the perverse: He who keeps his soul will be far from them.6 []7 The rich rules over the poor; And the borrower is slave to the lender.8 He who sows iniquity will reap calamity; And the rod of his wrath will fail.9 He who has a bountiful eye will be blessed; For he gives of his bread to the poor.10 Cast out the scoffer, and contention will go out; Yes, strife and ignominy will cease.11 He who loves pureness of heart, [For] the grace of his lips the king will be his companion.12 The eyes of Yahweh preserve [him who has] knowledge; But he overthrows the words of the betrayer.13 The sluggard says, There is a lion outside: I will be slain in the streets.14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: He who is abhorred of Yahweh will fall in it.15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; [But] the rod of correction will drive it far from him.16 He who oppresses the poor to increase his [gain], [And] he who gives to the rich, [will come] only to want.17 Words of the Wise. Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart to my knowledge.18 For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them inside you, If they are established together on your lips.19 That your trust may be in Yahweh, I have made [them] known to you this day, even to you.20 Have I not written to you excellent things Of counsels and knowledge,21 To make you know the certainty of the words of truth, That you may carry back words of truth to those who send you?22 Don't rob the poor, because he is poor; Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:23 For Yahweh will plead their cause, And despoil of life those who despoil them.24 Make no friendship with a man who is given to anger; And with a wrathful man you will not go:25 Or else you will learn this ways, And get a snare to your soul.26 Don't be one of those who strikes hands, [Or] of those who are sureties for debts.27 If you have not with which to pay, Why should he take away your bed from under you?28 Don't remove the ancient landmark, Which your fathers have set.29 Do you see a man diligent in his business? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before mean men.
