1 Estes são outros provérbios de Salomão, compilados pelos servos de Ezequias, rei de Judá:2 A glória de Deus é ocultar certas coisas; tentar descobri-las é a glória dos reis.3 Assim como o céu é elevado e a terra é profunda, também o coração dos reis é insondável.4 Quando se retira a escória da prata, nesta se tem material para o ourives;5 quando os ímpios são retirados da presença do rei, a justiça firma o seu trono.6 Não se engrandeça na presença do rei, e não reivindique lugar entre os homens importantes;7 é melhor que ele lhe diga: "Suba para cá! ", do que ter que humilhá-lo diante de uma autoridade. O que você viu com os olhos8 não leve precipitadamente ao tribunal, pois o que você fará, se o seu próximo o desacreditar?9 Procure resolver sua causa diretamente com o seu próximo, e não revele o segredo de outra pessoa,10 caso contrário, quem o ouvir poderá recriminá-lo e você jamais perderá sua má reputação.11 A palavra proferida no tempo certo é como frutas de ouro incrustadas numa escultura de prata.12 Como brinco de ouro e enfeite de ouro fino é a repreensão dada com sabedoria a quem se dispõe a ouvir.13 Como o frescor da neve na época da colheita é o mensageiro de confiança para aqueles que o enviam; ele revigora o ânimo de seus senhores.14 Como nuvens e ventos sem chuva é aquele que se gaba de presentes que não deu.15 Com muita paciência pode-se convencer a autoridade, e a língua branda quebra até ossos.16 Se você encontrar mel, coma apenas o suficiente, para que não fique enjoado e vomite.17 Não faça visitas freqüentes à casa do seu vizinho para que ele não se canse de você e passe a odiá-lo.18 Como um pedaço de pau, uma espada ou uma flecha aguda é o que dá falso testemunho contra o seu próximo.19 Como dente estragado ou pé deslocado é a confiança no hipócrita na hora da dificuldade.20 Como tirar a própria roupa num dia de frio, ou derramar vinagre numa ferida, é cantar com o coração entristecido.21 Se o seu inimigo tiver fome, dê-lhe de comer; se tiver sede, dê-lhe de beber.22 Fazendo isso, você amontoará brasas vivas sobre a cabeça dele, e o Senhor recompensará você.23 Como o vento norte traz chuva, assim a língua fingida traz o olhar irado.24 Melhor é viver num canto sob o telhado do que repartir a casa com uma mulher briguenta.25 Como água fresca para a garganta sedenta é a boa notícia que chega de uma terra distante.26 Como fonte contaminada ou nascente poluída, assim é o justo que fraqueja diante do ímpio.  27 Comer mel demais não é bom, nem é honroso buscar a própria honra.28 Como a cidade com seus muros derrubados, assim é quem não sabe dominar-se.

1 These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing; But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.3 As the heavens for height, and the earth for depth, So the heart of kings is unsearchable.4 Take away the dross from the silver, And there comes forth a vessel for the refiner:5 Take away the wicked [from] before the king, And his throne will be established in righteousness.6 Don't put yourself forward in the presence of the king, And don't stand in the place of great men:7 For it is better that it is said to you, Come up here, Than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, Whom your eyes have seen.8 Don't hastily bring [it] to court, Or else what will you do in its end, When your fellow man has put you to shame.9 Debate your cause with your fellow man [himself], And don't disclose the secret of another;10 Or else he who hears it will revile you, And your infamy will not turn away.11 A word fitly spoken Is [like] apples of gold in network of silver.12 [As] an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [So is] a wise reprover on an obedient ear.13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [So is] a faithful messenger to those who send him; For he refreshes the soul of his masters.14 [As] clouds and wind without rain, [So is] he who boasts himself of his gifts falsely.15 By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, And a soft tongue breaks the bone.16 Have you found honey? Eat so much as is sufficient for you, Or else you will be filled with it, and vomit it.17 Let your foot be seldom in your fellow man's house, Or else he will be weary of you, and hate you.18 A man who bears false witness against his fellow man Is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.19 Confidence in a betrayer in time of trouble Is [like] a crumbling tooth, and an unsteady foot.20 [As] vinegar on lye, and [as] smoke for the eyes, So is he who sings songs to a heavy heart.21 If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink:22 For you will heap coals of fire on his head, And Yahweh will reward you.23 The north wind brings forth rain: So does a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, Than with a contentious woman in a wide house.25 [As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, So is good news from a far country.26 [As] a troubled fountain, and a corrupted spring, [So is] a righteous man who gives way before the wicked.27 It is not good to eat much honey: And searching out their glory is glory.28 He whose spirit is without restraint Is [like] a city that is broken down and without walls.
