1 Chamando seus doze discípulos, deu-lhes autoridade para expulsar espíritos imundos e curar todas as doenças e enfermidades.2 Estes são os nomes dos doze apóstolos: primeiro, Simão, chamado Pedro, e André, seu irmão; Tiago, filho de Zebedeu, e João, seu irmão;3 Filipe e Bartolomeu; Tomé e Mateus, o publicano; Tiago, filho de Alfeu, e Tadeu;4 Simão, o zelote, e Judas Iscariotes, que o traiu.5 Jesus enviou estes doze com as seguintes instruções: "Não se dirijam aos gentios, nem entrem em cidade alguma dos samaritanos.6 Antes, dirijam-se às ovelhas perdidas de Israel.7 Por onde forem, preguem esta mensagem: ‘O Reino dos céus está próximo’.8 Curem os enfermos, ressuscitem os mortos, purifiquem os leprosos, expulsem os demônios. Vocês receberam de graça; dêem também de graça.9 Não levem nem ouro, nem prata, nem cobre em seus cintos;10 não levem nenhum saco de viagem, nem túnica extra, nem sandálias, nem bordão; pois o trabalhador é digno do seu sustento.11 "Na cidade ou povoado em que entrarem, procurem alguém digno de recebê-los, e fiquem em sua casa até partirem.12 Ao entrarem na casa, saúdem-na.13 Se a casa for digna, que a paz de vocês repouse sobre ela; se não for, que a paz retorne para vocês.14 Se alguém não os receber nem ouvir suas palavras, sacudam a poeira dos pés, quando saírem daquela casa ou cidade.15 Eu lhes digo a verdade: No dia do juízo haverá menor rigor para Sodoma e Gomorra do que para aquela cidade.16 Eu os estou enviando como ovelhas entre lobos. Portanto, sejam prudentes como as serpentes e simples como as pombas.17 "Tenham cuidado, pois os homens os entregarão aos tribunais e os açoitarão nas sinagogas deles.18 Por minha causa vocês serão levados à presença de governadores e reis como testemunhas a eles e aos gentios.19 Mas quando os prenderem, não se preocupem quanto ao que dizer, ou como dizer. Naquela hora lhes será dado o que dizer,20 pois não serão vocês que estarão falando, mas o Espírito do Pai de vocês falará por intermédio de vocês.21 "O irmão entregará à morte o seu irmão, e o pai o seu filho; filhos se rebelarão contra seus pais e os matarão.22 Todos odiarão vocês por minha causa, mas aquele que perseverar até o fim será salvo.23 Quando forem perseguidos num lugar, fujam para outro. Eu lhes garanto que vocês não terão percorrido todas as cidades de Israel antes que venha o Filho do homem.24 "O discípulo não está acima do seu mestre, nem o servo acima do seu senhor.25 Basta ao discípulo ser como o seu mestre, e ao servo, como o seu senhor. Se o dono da casa foi chamado Belzebu, quanto mais os membros da sua família!26 "Portanto, não tenham medo deles. Não há nada escondido que não venha a ser revelado, nem oculto que não venha a se tornar conhecido.27 O que eu lhes digo na escuridão, falem à luz do dia; o que é sussurrado em seus ouvidos, proclamem dos telhados.28 Não tenham medo dos que matam o corpo, mas não podem matar a alma. Antes, tenham medo daquele que pode destruir tanto a alma como o corpo no inferno.29 Não se vendem dois pardais por uma moedinha? Contudo, nenhum deles cai no chão sem o consentimento do Pai de vocês.30 Até os cabelos da cabeça de vocês estão todos contados.31 Portanto, não tenham medo; vocês valem mais do que muitos pardais!32 "Quem, pois, me confessar diante dos homens, eu também o confessarei diante do meu Pai que está nos céus.33 Mas aquele que me negar diante dos homens, eu também o negarei diante do meu Pai que está nos céus.34 "Não pensem que vim trazer paz à terra; não vim trazer paz, mas espada.35 Pois vim para fazer que ‘o homem fique contra seu pai, a filha contra sua mãe, a nora contra sua sogra;36 os inimigos do homem serão os da sua própria família’.37 "Quem ama seu pai ou sua mãe mais do que a mim não é digno de mim; quem ama seu filho ou sua filha mais do que a mim não é digno de mim;38 e quem não toma a sua cruz e não me segue, não é digno de mim.39 Quem acha a sua vida a perderá, e quem perde a sua vida por minha causa a encontrará.40 "Quem recebe vocês, recebe a mim; e quem me recebe, recebe aquele que me enviou.41 Quem recebe um profeta, porque ele é profeta, receberá a recompensa de profeta, e quem recebe um justo, porque ele é justo, receberá a recompensa de justo.42 E se alguém der mesmo que seja apenas um copo de água fria a um destes pequeninos, porque ele é meu discípulo, eu lhes asseguro que não perderá a sua recompensa".

1 Then He called to Him His twelve disciples and gave them authority over foul spirits, to drive them out; and to cure every kind of disease and infirmity.2 Now the names of the twelve Apostles were these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James the son of Zabdi, and his brother John;3 Philip and Bartholomew, Thomas and Matthew the tax-gatherer, James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus;4 Simon the Cananaean, and Judas the Iscariot, who also betrayed Him.5 These twelve Jesus sent on a mission, after giving them their instructions:»Go not,« He said, »among the Gentiles, and enter no Samaritan town;6 but, instead of that, go to the lost sheep of Israel's race.7 And as you go, preach and say, `The Kingdom of the Heavens is close at hand.'8 Cure the sick, raise the dead to life, cleanse lepers, drive out demons: you have received without payment, give without payment.9 »Provide no gold, nor even silver nor copper to carry in your pockets;«10 no bag for your journey, nor change of linen, nor shoes, nor stick; for the labourer deserves his food.11 »Whatever town or village you enter, inquire for some good man; and make his house your home till you leave the place.«12 When you enter the house, salute it;13 and if the house deserves it, the peace you invoke shall come upon it. If not, your peace shall return to you.14 And whoever refuses to receive you or even to listen to your Message, as you leave that house or town, shake off the very dust from your feet.15 I solemnly tell you that it will be more endurable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of Judgement than for that town.16 »Remember it is I who am sending you out, as sheep into the midst of wolves; prove yourselves as sagacious as serpents, and as innocent as doves.«17 But beware of men; for they will deliver you up to appear before Sanhedrins, and will flog you in their synagogues;18 and you will even be put on trial before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness to them and to the Gentiles.19 But when they have delivered you up, have no anxiety as to how you shall speak or what you shall say; for at that very time it shall be given you what to say;20 for it is not you who will speak: it will be the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.21 Brother will betray brother to death, and father, child; and children will rise against their own parents and will put them to death.22 And you will be objects of universal hatred because you are called by my name; but he who holds out to the End–he will be saved.23 Whenever they persecute you in one town, escape to the next; for I solemnly tell you that you will not have gone the round of all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.24 »The learner is never superior to his teacher, and the servant is never superior to his master.«25 Enough for the learner to be on a level with his teacher, and for the servant to be on a level with his master. If they have called the master of the house Baal-zebul, how much more will they slander his servants?26 Fear them not, however; there is nothing veiled which will not be uncovered, nor secret which will not become known.27 What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what is whispered into your ear, proclaim upon the roofs of the houses.28 »And do not fear those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul; but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.«29 Do not two sparrows sell for a halfpenny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father's leave.30 But as for you, the very hairs on your heads are all numbered.31 Away then with fear; you are more precious than a multitude of sparrows.32 »Every man who acknowledges me before men I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in Heaven.«33 But whoever disowns me before men I also will disown before my Father who is in Heaven.34 »Do not suppose that I came to bring peace to the earth: I did not come to bring peace but a sword.«35 For I came to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;36 and a man's own family will be his foes.37 Any one who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and any one who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me;38 and any one who does not take up his cross and follow where I lead is not worthy of me.39 To save your life is to lose it, and to lose your life for my sake is to save it.40 »Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives Him who sent me.«41 Every one who receives a prophet, because he is a prophet, will receive a prophet's reward, and every one who receives a righteous man, because he is a righteous man, will receive a righteous man's reward.42 And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water to drink because he is a disciple, I solemnly tell you that he will not lose his reward.«
