1 Sabemos bem que quando o nosso corpo - que é como que uma tenda onde vivemos - se desfizer, teremos no céu nova habitação e um corpo eterno, habitação essa preparada para nós por Deus e não por homens.

2 E é por isso que esperamos com ansiedade pelo dia em que seremos revestidos de corpos celestiais.

3 Porque não seremos apenas espírito sem corpo

4 Com efeito, enquanto vivemos neste corpo terreno sentimo-nos oprimidos e carregados. Até gostaríamos de, sem ter que despir este revestimento actual que é o nosso corpo, passar a viver na nova habitação, de forma que o que é mortal fosse como que absorvido pela vida eterna.�

5 Foi pois Deus quem nos preparou um tal destino, dando-nos como garantia o seu Espírito Santo.

6 E assim estamos sempre de bom ânimo, embora sabendo que o tempo que passamos neste corpo material é tempo que deixamos de passar com o Senhor no céu.

7 Estes sentimentos são o resultado de vivermos pela fé e não daquilo que vemos à nossa volta..

8 E é com confiança que desejamos deixar este corpo, e com satisfação enfrentamos a expectativa de habitar enfim com o Senhor. o

9 Por isso o nosso alvo é agradar-lhe sempre, quer vivamos aqui neste corpo, quer tenhamos que o deixar para estar com Deus no céu

10 Pois todos devemos comparecer diante do tribunal de Cristo; e aí cada um receberá segundo o que tiver feito de bem ou mal enquanto viveu neste corpo humano.

11 Conscientes assim do temor solene que é devido ao Senhor, procuramos persuadir as pessoas. E Deus bem conhece os nossos corações; vocês também sabem qual a pureza das nossas intenções.

12 Não é que estejamos novamente a elogiarmo-nos a nós próprios, claro; estamos apenas a dar-vos razões para estarem satisfeitos com as nossas vidas, e também para poderem responder aos que se apoiam mais em vantagens meramente exteriores, do que numa vida interior consequente e verdadeira perante Deus.

13 Estaremos a dizer disparates? Se for assim, é para que Deus seja servido. E se estamos correctos no nosso entendimento, quem mais beneficiará são vocês

14 O que quer que façamos ou sejamos é o resultado do amor de Cristo, que nos pressiona, levando-nos a concluir que, se Cristo morreu por todos nós, logo todos morremos com ele

15 E se ele morreu por todos é para que todos os que agora vivem, não vivam mais para si mesmos, mas para Cristo que para eles morreu e ressuscitou.

16 Por isso agora não avaliamos mais as pessoas por aquilo que elas possam parecer, sob o ponto de vista humano. Antigamente, eu pensava em Cristo assim, como se ele fosse um simples ser humano. Mas agora já não é dessa forma que o conheço!

17 Se alguém está ligado a Cristo transforma-se numa nova pessoa; as coisas antigas passaram; tudo nele se fez novo!

18 Tudo isso é obra de Deus, que nos reconciliou consigo mesmo, através daquilo que Cristo fez por nós e nos confiou a missão de anunciar essa mesma reconciliação.

19 Porque Deus estava em Cristo, reconciliando o mundo consigo mesmo, não mais considerando os pecados dos homens como razão de acusação contra eles. Eis pois a mensagem que pregamos.

20 Somos então como embaixadores de Cristo. E é como se Deus por nosso meio lançasse um apelo aos homens. Nós vos suplicamos então, da parte de Cristo, que se reconciliem com Deus!c

21 Deus carregou todo o nosso pecado sobre Cristo, que estava isento de qualquer pecado, para que nele fôssemos revestidos da justiça de Deus.

1 For we know that-if, our earthly tent-dwelling, should be taken down, we have, a building of God, a dwelling not made by hand, age-abiding in the heavens.

2 And verily, in this, we sigh, earnestly desiring to clothe ourselves over, with our habitation which is of heaven,

3 Although, indeed, even clothing ourselves, we shall not be found, naked;

4 And verily, we who are in the tent, do sigh, being weighed down, while yet we are not wishing to unclothe ourselves, but to clothe ourselves over,in order that, what is mortal, may be swallowed up, by life.

5 Now, he that hath wrought us for this very thing, is, God,who hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit,

6 Having good courage, therefore, at all times, and knowing thatremaining at home in the body, we are away from home from the Lord,

7 By faith, are we walking, not by sight;

8 We have good courage, however, and are well pleasedrather to be away from home, out of the body, and to come home, unto the Lord.

9 Wherefore also we are ambitiouswhether at home, or away from home, to be, well-pleasing unto him.

10 For, we all, must needs be made manifest before the judgment seat of the Christ, that each one may get back the things done by means of the body, according to the things which he practised, whether good or corrupt.

11 Knowing, then, the fear of the Lord, we persuade, men, but, unto God, are manifest,I hope, moreover, even in your consciences, that we are manifest:

12 Not again, ourselves, do we commend unto you, but as though an occasion we were giving unto yousomething to boast of, in our behalf; that ye may have something suited unto them who, in appearance, are boasting, and not in heart.

13 For, whether we have been beside ourselves, it hath been for God, or, whether we are sober-minded, it is for you.

14 For, the love of the Christ, constraineth us;

15 Having judged this,that, one, in behalf of all, died, hence, they all, died; and, in behalf of all, died he,in order that, they who live, no longer for themselves, should live, but for him who, in their behalf, died and rose again.

16 So that, we, henceforth, know, no one, after the flesh: if we have even been gaining, after the flesh, a knowledge of Christ,

17 On the contrary, now, no longer, are we gaining it. So that, if any one is in Christ, there is a new creation! the old things, have passed away,Lo! they have become new!

18 The all things, moreover, are of God,who hath reconciled us unto himself, through Christ, and hath given, unto us, the reconciling ministry:

19 How that, God, was in Christ, reconciling, a world, unto himself, not reckoning, unto them, their offences,and hath put, in us, the reconciling discourse.

20 In behalf of Christ, therefore, are we ambassadors,as if God were beseeching through us: we entreat, in behalf of Christ,be reconciled unto God!

21 Him who knew not sin, in our behalf, he made to be, sin, that we might become Gods righteousness in him.
