1 Quando a rainha de Sabá soube da fama de Salomão, veio a Jerusalém para verificar isso pessoalmente, através de questões que lhe apresentou. Fez-se acompanhar de uma grande comitiva de colaboradores e de servos, e trouxe também muitos camelos, carregados de especiarias, de ouro e de pedras preciosas.
2 Salomão teve uma resposta sábia para todos os problemas que ela lhe apresentou; para tudo soube encontrar uma solução.
3 Constando então como ele era sábio, e contemplando a beleza ofuscante do seu palácio, mais a comida riquíssima que se apresentava sobre as mesas, a quantidade de criados e funcionários que tinha ao seu serviço, vendo os seus uniformes espectaculares, a apresentação e garbo da sua guarda pessoal, quase nem podia acreditar!
5 Então exclamou para o rei: Tudo o que no meu país ouvi acerca de ti é verdade!
6 Custava-me acreditar, antes de o ter visto com os meus próprios olhos! A tua sabedoria é muito maior do que eu podia imaginar. Que privilégio para toda esta gente viver aqui e ouvir-te falar! Bendito seja o Senhor teu Deus! Como ele deve amar Israel para lhe ter dado um monarca como tu! Certamente que ele pretende que vocês sejam uma grande e forte nação para sempre.
9 Depois deu ao rei uma oferta no valor de três mil e quinhentos quilos de ouro, mais uma grande quantidade de especiarias de uma qualidade única, assim como muitas, muitas pedras preciosas.
10 As tripulações do rei Hirão, com as do rei Salomão, trouxeram pois ouro de Ofir, mais madeira de sândalo e pedras preciosas. A madeira, usou-a o rei para fazer soalhos para a casa do Senhor e para o palácio real, e também para construir harpas e liras para acompanharem o coro dos levitas no templo. Nunca antes tinham havido instrumentos de tanta beleza, em toda a terra de Judá.
12 O rei Salomão deu à rainha de Sabá presentes do mesmo valor dos que ela lhe trouxera, mais ainda tudo aquilo que lhe pediu. Após o que regressou à sua terra acompanhada de toda a comitiva.
13 Salomão recebia, cada ano, dos reis da Arábia e de muitas outras terras que lhe pagavam tributo anual, um total de vinte e três toneladas de ouro. Além disso mantinha relações comerciais com o estrangeiro, exportando mercadorias em troca de ouro e prata que lhe enviavam. Parte desse ouro empregou-o no fabrico de 200 grandes escudos, cada um dos quais tinha três quilos e meio de ouro. Mandou também fazer 300 escudos mais pequenos, cada um com 1,7 quilos de ouro. O monarca colocou-os na sala da Floresta do Líbano, do seu palácio real.
17 Ordenou também que se fizesse um enorme trono de marfim, inteiramente revestido de ouro. Tinha seis degraus e um estrado, tudo em ouro; os apoios de braços eram igualmente de ouro, assim com os dois leões que lhe estavam juntos. Também de cada lado dos degraus havia leões de ouro. Nenhum trono no mundo inteiro tinha comparação com este!
20 Todas as taças do serviço real eram de ouro maciço, assim como os outros utensílios da sala da Floresta do Líbano. Prata era coisa de pouca valia naqueles tempos! De três em três anos o rei enviava barcos a Tarsis, tripulados por marinheiros enviados pelo rei Hirão, para trazerem mais ouro, prata, marfim, macacos e pavões.
22 Desta forma, Salomão era mais rico, e ainda mais sábio, do que qualquer rei sobre a face da Terra. Soberanos de todos os países vinham visitá-lo e ouvir da sua boca a sabedoria que Deus lhe pusera no coração. Cada um trazia-lhe um tributo anual em vasos de prata e de ouro, e ainda roupa, armas, especiarias, cavalos e mulas.
25 Para além disso Salomão tinha 4.000 estábulos e cocheiros para guardar carros de guerra; eram 12.000 os seus cavaleiros. O local de estacionamento de todo este equipamento e tropas era nas povoações chamadas cidades-estábulo e também em Jerusalém, sob o controlo directo do soberano.
26 O seu domínio exercia-se sobre todos os reis desde o rio Eufrates até à terra dos filisteus e até à fronteira do Egipto.
27 A prata em Jerusalém era tão abundante como as pedras das ruas! A madeira de cedro era usada como se fosse simples madeira de figueira brava. Vinham-lhe cavalos de toda a parte, do Egipto, como doutros sítios.
29 O resto da biografia de Salomão está escrito nas Crónicas do Profeta Natã, nos escritos proféticos de Aías o silonita e nas visões de Ido o vidente no que concerne Jeroboão, filho de Nebate.
30 Assim Salomão reinou em Jerusalém sobre todo o Israel, durante quarenta anos.
31 Depois morreu e foi enterrado em Jerusalém. O seu filho Reboão reinou em seu lugar.
1 And, the queen of Sheba, heard the report of Solomon, so she came to prove Solomon with abstruse questions, in Jerusalem, with a very great train, and camels bearing spices, and gold in abundance, and precious stones,and, when she was come to Solomon, she spake with him, as to all that was near her heart.
2 And Solomon answered her all her questions,and there was nothing hidden from Solomon, which he told her not.
3 And, when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon, and the house which he had built;
4 and the food of his table, and the seats of his servants, and the standing of his attendants, with their apparel, and his cupbearers, and their apparel, and his ascent whereby he used to ascend the house of Yahweh, then was there in her no more spirit.
5 And she said unto the king, True was the word, which I heard in my own land,concerning thine affairs, and concerning thy wisdom.
6 Howbeit I believed not their words, until I had come and mine own eyes had seen, when lo! there had not been told me, the half of the fulness of thy wisdom,thou dost exceed the report which I heard.
7 How happy! are thy men, and how happy! are these thy servants,who are standing before thee continually, and hearing thy wisdom.
8 Yahweh thy God be blessed, who hath delighted in thee, to set thee upon his throne as king unto Yahweh thy God. Because of the love of thy God unto Israel, to establish them unto times age-abiding, therefore hath he set thee over them, as king, to execute justice and righteousness.
9 And she gave unto the king, a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and spices in great abundance and precious stones,and there was none like that spice, which the queen of Sheba gave unto King Solomon.
10 Moreover also, the servants of Huram, and the servants of Solomon, who brought gold from Ophir, brought sandal-wood and precious stones.
11 And the king made of the sandal-wood, stairs unto the house of Yahweh, and unto the house of the king, also lyres and harps, for the singers,and there were none seen like them before, in the land of Judah.
12 And, King Solomon, gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatsoever she asked, besides
13 Now, the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year, was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold;
14 besides what came in from the subjugated, and what the travelling merchants were bringing in,and, all the kings of Arabia and the pashas of the land, were bringing gold and silver, unto Solomon.
15 And King Solomon made two hundred shields of beaten gold,six hundred of beaten gold, overlay one shield;
16 also three hundred bucklers of beaten gold, three hundred of gold, overlay one buckler,and the king placed them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.
17 And the king made a great throne of ivory,and overlaid it with pure gold;
18 and there were six steps to the throne, and a footstool in gold, unto the throne, made fast, and supports, on this side and on that, unto the seat,and, two lions, standing by the supports;
19 and, twelve lions, standing there upon the six steps, on this side and on that,there was never made the like, for any kingdom.
20 And, all the drinking vessels of King Solomon, were of gold, and, all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon, were of purified gold,there was no silver, it was esteemed, in the days of Solomon, as nothing.
21 For, the ships of the king, used to go to Tarshish, with the servants of Huram,once in three years, came in the ships of Tarshish, bearing gold and silver, ivory and apes, and peacocks.
22 And so King Solomon became greater than all the kings of the earth,as to riches, and wisdom.
23 And, all the kings of the earth, were seeking the face of Solomon,to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart;
24 and, they, were bringing in every man his presentutensils of silver, and utensils of gold, and mantles, armour, and spices, horses and mules,the need of a year in a year.
25 And Solomon had four thousand stalls of horses, and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen,and he settled them in the chariot cities, and with the king in Jerusalem.
26 And he ruled over all the kings,from the river , even up to the land of the Philistines, yea up to the bounds of Egypt.
27 And the king made the silver in Jerusalem like the stones,and, the cedar trees, made he like the sycomores which are in the lowland, for abundance.
28 And they used to bring horses out of Egypt unto Solomon, and out of all lands.
29 Now, the rest of the acts of Solomon, first and last, are they not written in the records of Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Iddo the seer, concerning Jeroboam son of Nebat?
30 And Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel, forty years.
31 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David his father,and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.
