1 O Espírito do Senhor Deus está sobre mim, porque o Senhor me ungiu para levar boas novas aos pobres. Enviou-me para levar conforto aos que têm o coração ferido, para anunciar a liberdade aos cativos, abrir os olhos aos cegos e as prisões aos presos.2 Enviou-me a anunciar o tempo do favor de Deus, e da sua ira para com os seus inimigos.3 A todos os que vivem tristes em Israel dar-lhes-á alegria em lugar de cinzas, gozo em vez de lamentações, louvor em vez de angústia. O Senhor os plantou como árvores de justiça, como a plantação do Senhor, para sua própria glória.4 Eles reconstruirão as antigas ruínas, repararão as cidades desde há muito destruídas, fazendo-as reviver, ainda que tivessem estado mortas durante muito tempo.5 Estrangeiros virão servir-vos; apascentarão os rebanhos, lavrarão os campos, tratarão das vinhas.6 Quanto a vocês, serão sacerdotes do Senhor, ministros do nosso Deus. Serão alimentados com a riqueza das nações, e terão muita honra em todos esses tesouros.7 Em vez de vergonha e de desonra terão uma porção dobrada de prosperidade e duma alegria sem limites.8 Porque eu, o Senhor, amo a justiça e odeio a maldade, o roubo. Recompensarei certamente com generosidade o meu povo por tudo o que sofreu, e farei com eles uma aliança eterna. Os seus descendentes serão conhecidos e honrados entre as nações. Toda a gente se dará conta de que são um povo que Deus abençoou.10 Deixem que vos diga como Deus me fez feliz! Porque me vestiu com o fato da salvação e me cobriu com a roupa da justiça. Sou como um noivo no seu fato de casamento, e como uma noiva aparamentada com todas as suas jóias.11 O Senhor mostrará às nações do mundo a sua justiça, e todos o louvarão. A sua rectidão será como uma planta cheia de rebentos e de flores em botão; como um jardim no princípio da Primavera, cheio de novas plantas desabrochando por toda a parte.

1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Yahweh is on me; because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the meek; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening [of the prison] to those who are bound;2 to proclaim the year of Yahweh's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn;3 to appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, that he may be glorified.4 And they will build the old wastes, they will raise up the former desolations, and they will repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations.5 And strangers will stand and shepherd your{+} flocks, and foreigners will be your{+} plowmen and your{+} vine-dressers.6 But you{+} will be named the priests of Yahweh; men will call you{+} the ministers of our God: you{+} will eat the wealth of the nations, and in their glory you{+} will boast yourselves.7 Instead of your{+} shame [you{+} will have] double; and instead of dishonor they will rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they will possess double; everlasting joy will be to them.8 For I, Yahweh, love justice, I hate robbery with burnt-offerings; and I will give them their recompense in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them.9 And their seed will be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples; all who see them will acknowledge them, that they are the seed which Yahweh has blessed.10 I will greatly rejoice in Yahweh, my soul will be joyful in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.11 For as the earth brings forth its bud, and as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Sovereign Yahweh will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
