2 Abram os portões para que por eles entre o povo recto, e que cumpre aquilo que diz.3 Tu conservarás em paz aquele cuja mente está firme em ti, porque confia em ti!4 Confiem sempre no Senhor Deus, porque no Senhor Jeová está, para sempre, toda a vossa força.5 Ele humilha o altivo e derriba a orgulhosa cidade até ao pó, que é pisada pelos pobres, calcada pelos sem defesa.7 Mas para os justos, o caminho não é trabalhoso e escarpado, porque Deus lhes suaviza a estrada na sua frente.8 Ó Senhor, desejamos de todo o coração fazer a tua vontade! O nosso maior desejo é glorificar o teu nome.9 Durante toda a noite te procuro; fervorosamente busco Deus. Na verdade só quando a tua justiça é aplicada na Terra é que as gentes deixarão a sua maldade e farão o que é recto.10 Ainda que te mostres bom para com os maus, isso não os fará serem mais justos; até na terra de rectidão eles continuam a praticar a maldade, e não atentam para a tua grandeza, ó Senhor.11 Não ligam às tuas ameaças, nem lhes interessa sequer que o teu punho já esteja estendido. Mostra-lhes como amas o teu povo; talvez que isso os envergonhe! Sim, os teus adversários arderão com o fogo que lhes reservas.12 Ó Senhor, dá-nos a paz, porque tudo o que temos e que somos vem de ti!13 Ó Senhor nosso Deus, uma vez, em tempos, adorámos na verdade outros deuses; mas agora é só a ti que adoramos.14 Aqueles que servimos antes morreram, foram-se; nunca voltarão à vida. Vieste contra eles e os destruíste; já há muito estão esquecidos.15 Oh, louvem o Senhor! Tornaste esta nação muito grande. Aumentaste largamente as fronteiras da nossa terra!16 Senhor, na sua tristeza eles procuraram-te. Quando o teu castigo estava sobre eles, lançaram-te uma íntima oração.17 Como nos fez falta a tua presença, Senhor! Sofremos como uma mulher grávida que grita quando dá à luz, e se torce com as dores de parto.18 Nós também nos torcemos em agonia, mas tudo em vão. Nenhuma salvação veio à Terra, nem nasceram novos habitantes do mundo.19 Mas nós temos ainda esta certeza: Os que pertencem a Deus tornarão a viver. Os seus corpos ressuscitarão! Os que habitam no pó despertarão e cantarão de alegria! Porque a luz da vida, da parte de Deus, descerá sobre eles como o orvalho.20 Vai para casa, meu povo, e fecha-te no quarto! Esconde-te por um pouco de tempo, até que a cólera do Senhor contra os teus inimigos tenha passado.21 Vejam! O Senhor está a vir desde os céus para castigar os povos da Terra por causa dos seus pecados. A Terra não esconderá mais os seus assassinos. O culpado será encontrado e castigado.

1 In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: we have a strong city; salvation he will appoint for walls and bulwarks.2 Open{+} the gates, that the righteous nation which keeps faith may enter in.3 You will keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] sustained [by you]; because he trusts in you.4 Trust{+} in Yahweh forever; for in Yah, Yahweh, is an everlasting rock.5 For he has brought down those who dwell on high, the lofty city: he lays it low, he lays it low even to the ground; he brings it even to the dust.6 The foot will tread it down; even the feet of the poor, and the steps of the needy.7 The way of the just is uprightness: you who are upright direct the path of the just.8 Yes, in the way of your judgments, O Yahweh, we have waited for you; to your name, even to your memorial [name], is the desire of our soul.9 With my soul I have desired you in the night; yes, with my spirit inside me I will seek you earnestly: for when your judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.10 Let favor be shown to the wicked, yet he will not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness he will deal wrongfully, and will not see the majesty of Yahweh.11 Yahweh, your hand is lifted up, yet they don't see: but they will see [your] zeal for the people, and be put to shame; yes, fire will devour your adversaries.12 Yahweh, you will appoint peace for us; for you have also wrought all our works for us.13 O Yahweh our God, other lords besides you have had dominion over us; but by you only we will make mention of your name.14 [They are] spirits of the dead, they will not live; [they are] deceased, they will not rise: therefore you have visited and destroyed them, and made all remembrance of them to perish.15 You have increased the nation, O Yahweh, you have increased the nation; you are glorified; you have enlarged all the borders of the land.16 Yahweh, in trouble they have visited you; they poured out a prayer [when] your chastening was on them.17 Like a woman pregnant, that draws near the time of her delivery, is in pain and cries out in her pangs; so we have been before you, O Yahweh.18 We have been pregnant, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we haven't wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.19 Your dead will live; my dead bodies will arise. Awake and sing, you{+} who stay in the dust; for your dew is [as] the dew of herbs, and the earth will cast forth the spirits of the dead.20 Come, my people, enter into your chambers, and shut your doors about you: hide yourself for a little moment, until the indignation has passed by.21 For, look, Yahweh comes forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also will disclose her blood, and will no more cover her slain.
