1 Agora escutem! O Senhor não é nenhum ser fraco que não possa salvar-nos, nem tão-pouco se está a tornar surdo! Ele ouve perfeitamente quando clamam a ele! 2 Mas o problema é que os vossos pecados vos separam de Deus! Por causa do pecado virou-vos a cara e já não vos ouve mais! 3 Porque as vossas mãos são as mãos de assassinos; os vossos dedos estão sujos de pecado; mentem, refilam, recusam o que é reto. 4 Ninguém se preocupa em ser honesto e verdadeiro; os vossos processos judiciais baseiam-se sempre na mentira; passam o tempo a conspirar e armar ciladas. 5 Tecem teias de aranha e chocam ovos de serpente; quem comer desses ovos, morre e de cada ovo esmagado sai uma víbora. 6 As teias que tecem não prestam para fazer roupa; ninguém se pode cobrir com semelhantes produtos. Tudo o que fazem é cheio de pecado; o produto das vossas mãos é a violência. 7 Os vossos pés correm para a maldade e precipitam-se para derramar sangue; os vossos pensamentos são de pecado e, por onde quer que vão, deixam um rasto de miséria e morte. 8 Ignoram o que seja a verdadeira paz, nem o que quer dizer ser bom e justo; fazem continuamente o que é mau e aqueles que vos seguem não conseguirão experimentar nenhuma paz.

9 É por causa de todo esse mal que não nos é feita justiça e a retidão não nos alcança. Esperamos pela luz e só há trevas; vivemos na escuridão. 10 Andamos às apalpadelas como cegos; tropeçamos em plena luz do dia, como se fosse o lusco-fusco do anoitecer. Somos como mortos entre os vivos. 11 Grunhimos como ursos, gememos como pombas. Esperamos pela justiça, mas em vão. Esperamos por salvação, mas é coisa que está bem longe de nós.

12 Porque os nossos pecados amontoam-se perante o Deus justo e servem de testemunho contra nós. Sim, nós sabemos bem como somos pecadores! 13 Conhecemos a nossa desobediência; rejeitámos o Senhor, voltámos as costas contra o nosso Deus. Sabemos como somos rebeldes e injustos; é com todo o cuidado que inventamos as nossas mentiras. 14 Os nossos tribunais opõem-se aos justos; não se sabe o que é a honradez. A verdade anda de rastos pelas ruas e a justiça vive como os marginais, os fora-da-lei. 15 Sim, a verdade foi-se e todos os que tentam viver mais corretamente são atacados.

O Senhor viu todo este mal e indignou-se com a falta de justiça. 16 Viu que não havia ninguém que tomasse a iniciativa de lutar contra o pecado e interviesse. Por isso, ele próprio avançou para os salvar por meio do seu forte braço e da sua justiça. 17 Revestiu-se da armadura da justiça, pôs o capacete da salvação; vestiu-se com a roupagem do castigo e da ira divina. 18 Retribuirá aos seus inimigos conforme as suas más ações. A sua cólera atingirá os seus adversários, mesmo que se encontrem nas terras mais distantes de além-mar. 19 Por fim, hão de temer e glorificar o nome do Senhor, do ocidente ao oriente. Porque ele virá como uma corrente de águas, impulsionado pelo sopro do Senhor. 20 "Virá o Redentor a Sião e para os de Jacob que se arrependerem da sua transgressão, diz o Senhor.

21 Esta é a aliança que faço com eles, diz o Senhor: o meu Espírito, que está sobre ti, e as minhas palavras, que coloquei na tua boca, nunca se afastarão de ti, nem os teus descendentes, diz o Senhor, agora e para sempre!"

9 Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness. 10 We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men. 11 We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us. 12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them; 13 In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. 14 And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. 15 Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.*59.15 maketh…: or, is accounted mad*59.15 it displeased…: Heb. it was evil in his eyes

16 And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. 17 For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. 18 According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence.*59.18 deeds: Heb. recompences 19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.*59.19 lift…: or, put him to flight

20 And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD. 21 As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
