1 Do cepo de Jessé brotará um rebento e das suas raízes frutificará um ramo.

2 O Espírito do Senhor ficará sobre ele:

Espírito de sabedoria e de discernimento;

Espírito de conselho e de poder;

Espírito de conhecimento e de temor ao Senhor.

3 Todo o seu prazer será em temer ao Senhor. Não julgará segundo as aparências, nem por ouvir dizer. 4 Castigará a Terra com a vara da sua palavra e com o sopro da sua boca condenará à morte os malvados. Pelo contrário, defenderá com justiça os pobres e com equidade os explorados. 5 Porque se revestirá de justiça e de verdade na cintura e no tronco.

6 Nesse dia, o lobo e o cordeiro deitar-se-ão juntos, o leopardo e o cabrito viverão em paz; bezerros e gordas ovelhas estarão em segurança no meio de leões e uma criança os guiará. 7 As vacas pastarão juntamente com os ursos, enquanto os respetivos filhotes ficarão deitados uns com os outros. Também o leão comerá erva como os bois. 8 Haverá bebés gatinhando, sem perigo, por entre serpentes venenosas e crianças que põem despreocupadamente a mão dentro dum ninho de víboras, retirando-a depois sem a mínima mordedura. 9 Não se praticará mal nem destruição de espécie alguma no meu santo monte, porque tal como as águas enchem os mares, assim também a Terra se encherá do conhecimento do Senhor.

10 Nesse dia, aquele que é a raiz de Jessé será como uma bandeira para todo o mundo. As nações se juntarão a ele e será gloriosa a morada do seu descanso. 11 Nesse dia, o Senhor fará regressar, pela segunda vez à terra de Israel, um resto do seu povo, trazendo-os da Assíria, do Alto e do Baixo Egito, de Cuche*11.11 Embora nalgumas traduções bíblicas apareça como Etiópia, na verdade, Cuche estava localizada a sul do Egito, numa área que envolve hoje parte da Etiópia e do Sudão., do Elão, de Sinar (Babilónia), de Hamate e de terras distantes de além-mar. 12 Levantará uma bandeira entre as nações para os chamar e reunir. Juntará, assim, os israelitas dispersos pelos quatro cantos do mundo. 13 Então terminará a inveja de Efraim e os inimigos de Judá serão destroçados; nunca mais Efraim terá inveja de Judá, nem Judá se voltará contra Efraim. 14 Juntos voarão contra as nações, conquistando as suas terras a leste e a oeste, unindo forças para as destruir, vindo a ocupar as nações de Edom, de Moabe e de Amon.

15 O Senhor fará secar um caminho através do mar Vermelho; levantará a sua mão sobre o rio Eufrates, mandando um forte vento que o divida em sete braços que qualquer pessoa poderá atravessar, mesmo calçada. 16 Aplanará um largo caminho desde a Assíria, para que venha por ele o resto que ainda lá vive, tal como fez há muito tempo para Israel poder regressar do Egito.

1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: 2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:*11.3 quick…: Heb. scent or, smell 4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.*11.4 reprove: or, argue 5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins. 6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. 7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. 8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den.*11.8 cockatrice’: or, adder’s 9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.*11.10 glorious: Heb. glory 11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea. 12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.*11.12 corners: Heb. wings 13 The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim. 14 But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.*11.14 them of: Heb. the children of*11.14 they shall lay…: Heb.
