1 Agora, irmãos, permitam-me que vos lembre o evangelho que vos preguei desde o princípio, que vocês aceitaram e no qual permanecem!2 São essas boas novas que vos salvam, se nelas crerem firmemente. Doutra maneira, terão crido em vão.3 Eu transmiti-vos ao princípio o que era mais importante e que também me foi transmitido: que Cristo morreu pelos nossos pecados, conforme as Escrituras, foi sepultado, e três dias depois ressuscitou dos mortos, conforme as Escrituras.5 Foi visto por Pedro, e mais tarde pelo resto dos Doze . Depois disso foi visto também por mais de quinhentos discípulos numa ocasião, a maioria dos quais ainda vive, embora alguns já morreram. Depois foi Tiago quem o viu, e mais tarde todos os apóstolos.8 Por último também apareceu-me a mim, muito depois dos outros; é como se eu tivesse nascido fora do tempo.9 Porque eu sou o menos merecedor de todos os apóstolos, e nem deveria ser digno de ser considerado apóstolo da maneira como tratei a igreja de Deus.10 Mas o que eu agora sou devo-o à grande bondade de Deus e à sua graça sobre mim, o que não deixou de dar resultado. Porque tenho trabalhado mais duramente que todos os apóstolos, embora não seja efectivamente eu quem faz isso, mas Deus, que opera na minha vida pela sua graça.11 Nem interessa se sou eu ou eles quem tem pregado; o mais importante é que vos anunciámos as boas novas e vocês creram nelas.12 Mas se pregamos que Cristo ressuscitou da morte, porque é que alguns entre vocês andam a dizer que não há ressurreição dos mortos?13 Porque se não há ressurreição dos mortos, então Cristo ainda deve estar morto.14 E se ele ainda está morto, então toda a nossa pregação é inútil, e a vossa fé em Deus é em vão.15 E nós, apóstolos, seremos todos mentirosos, porque dissemos que Deus ressuscitou Cristo, e isso não seria verdade, se os mortos não tornassem à vida.16 Se não há ressurreição dos mortos, então Cristo não ressuscitou.17 E se Cristo não ressuscitou então a vossa fé é inútil, e vocês ainda estão sob condenação por causa dos vossos pecados.18 Nesse caso, todos quantos morreram crendo em Cristo estão perdidos!19 E se a nossa esperança em Cristo é unicamente para esta vida, nós somos as pessoas mais miseráveis no mundo.20 Mas o facto é que Cristo ressuscitou mesmo dos mortos e se tornou o primeiro entre milhões que um dia voltarão a viver!21 Tal como a morte apareceu neste mundo por causa daquilo que um homem (Adão) fez, assim também é por causa do que um outro Homem (Cristo) realizou que agora há a possibilidade da ressurreição da morte.22 Cada um de nós morre porque pertence à descendência pecadora de Adão. Mas todos os que estão ligados a Cristo voltarão de novo à vida.23 Contudo cada um na sua ordem: Cristo foi o primeiro a ressuscitar; e depois, quando ele voltar, todo o seu povo tornará a viver.24 Então virá o fim, em que Cristo entregará o reino a Deus, o Pai, tendo derrubado todos os domínios, autoridades e poderes.25 Porque Cristo reinará até que tenha derrotado todos os seus inimigos,26 incluindo o último, que será a morte.27 Porque foi dada a Cristo, por seu Pai, a autoridade e o domínio sobre todas as coisas, excepto, naturalmente, sobre o seu próprio Pai, que foi quem lhe deu esse poder de domínio.28 Quando Cristo tiver finalmente ganho a batalha contra os seus inimigos, então ele, o Filho de Deus, pôr-se-á a si próprio também sob a autoridade do Pai, para que Deus, que lhe deu a vitória sobre tudo, seja absolutamente supremo.29 Se os mortos não voltarem a viver, que razão haveria então para aquilo que certas pessoas fazem, que é baptizarem-se no lugar de outros que já partiram? Porquê tudo isso, se não se crê que os mortos ressuscitarão?30 E porque havemos nós própios de arriscar constantemente as nossas vidas, enfrentado a morte hora a hora?31 Porque é um facto que eu enfrento diariamente a morte; mas se isso é verdade, também não o é menos a minha satisfação no vosso crescimento no Senhor.32 E que valor teria eu haver lutado com feras, em Éfeso, se não houver a ressurreição dos mortos? Se não tornarmos a viver, comamos e bebamos, pois que no fim de contas amanhã morreremos e acaba-se tudo!33 Não se deixem enganar pelos que dizem tais coisas. As más companhias corrompem os bons costumes.34 Despertem e parem de pecar! Porque para vossa vergonha o digo: alguns de vocês ainda não conheceram realmente Deus.35 Mas alguém poderá perguntar: Como é afinal que os mortos vão ressuscitar? Que espécie de corpo terão então?36 Não é uma pergunta ajuizada. Quando se enterra uma semente, ela não se transforma em planta enquanto não morrer primeiro.37 Porque o que se semeia não é a planta mas apenas um pequeno grão, de trigo ou de qualquer outra planta.38 E então Deus dá-lhe um corpo, da espécie que ele destinou; cada espécie de semente dará naturalmente uma diferente espécie de planta.39 Assim como há diferentes espécies de sementes e plantas, assim também há diferentes espécies de corpos. O homem tem uma espécie de corpo, os animais outra, as aves outra e os peixes outra.40 Há corpos no céu e há corpos na terra. A glória dos corpos celestiais é diferente da beleza dos corpos terrenos.41 O Sol, a Lua e as estrelas, cada um tem o seu próprio esplendor. E até as estrelas diferem em brilho e em grandeza entre si.42 Da mesma forma, os nossos corpos humanos, que hão-de morrer e desaparecer, são diferentes dos corpos que teremos quando ressuscitarmos, pois que estes não morrerão.43 Os corpos que agora temos acabam na corrupção da morte; mas quando ressuscitarmos serão corpos gloriosos. É verdade, sim, que agora são corpos mortais, mas quando voltarmos à vida serão corpos cheios de energia.44 Ao morrerem não passam de meros corpos humanos, mas na ressurreição serão corpos supraterrenos. Porque tal como há corpos de natureza humana, também há corpos espirituais.45 As Escrituras dizem-nos que o primeiro homem, Adão, se tornou um ser com vida, mas o último Adão, isto é, Cristo, é um Espírito que dá vida.46 Nós temos primeiramente estes nossos corpos humanos, mas depois Deus dá-nos corpos celestiais.47 Adão foi feito da terra, mas Cristo veio do céu.48 Todo o ser humano tem um corpo como o de Adão, feito da terra, mas os que são de Cristo terão como ele um corpo celestial.49 E se agora cada um de nós ainda tem um corpo como o de Adão, um dia viremos a ter um corpo semelhante ao de Cristo.50 Uma coisa vos garanto, irmãos: é que um corpo terreno, feito de carne e de sangue, não pode entrar no reino de Deus. Estes nossos corpos mortais não têm uma natureza que lhes permita viver para sempre.51 Mas posso revelar-vos um mistério: é que nem todos morreremos, mas contudo todos receberemos novos corpos!52 E tudo isso acontecerá num abrir e fechar de olhos, quando a última trombeta soar. Porque haverá no céu um toque de trombeta, e todos os cristãos que já morreram tornarão à vida com novos corpos que nunca mais hão-de morrer, e então nós, os que estivermos vivos ainda, seremos revestidos de novos corpos, igualmente.53 Pois que os nossos corpos terrenos, sujeitos à morte, serão transformados em corpos celestiais que não podem morrer, mas que viverão para sempre.54 Quando isto acontecer - quando os nossos perecíveis corpos terrenos forem transformados em corpos celestiais que nunca morrerão - então se cumprirá o que diz a Escritura: A morte foi tragada na vitória. Onde está pois, ó morte, a tua vitória? Onde está o teu aguilhão?56 Porque o pecado - esse aguilhão que causa a morte - terá desaparecido completamente; e a lei, que traz a manifesto os nossos pecados, nunca mais será nosso juiz.57 Como estamos gratos a Deus por tudo isso! Foi ele quem nos tornou vitoriosos por meio de Jesus Cristo nosso Senhor!58 Assim meus queridos irmãos, sejam firmes e constantes, trabalhando com entusiasmo na obra do Senhor, pois sabem que nada do que fizerem para Deus será em vão.

1 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also ye have received, and in which ye stand;2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached to you, unless ye have believed in vain.3 For I delivered to you first of all, that which I also received, that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures;4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:5 And that he was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve:6 After that he was seen by above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain to this present, but some have fallen asleep.7 After that he was seen by James; then by all the apostles.8 And last of all he was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.9 For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me, was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.11 Therefore whether it was I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed.12 Now if Christ is preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not raised.14 And if Christ is not raised, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.15 And indeed we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified concerning God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not, if in truth the dead rise not.16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:17 And if Christ is not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.18 Then they also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.20 But now is Christ raised from the dead, and become the first-fruits of them that slept.21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.23 But every man in his own order: Christ the first-fruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule, and all authority, and power.25 For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.27 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted who did put all things under him.28 And when all things shall be subdued to him, then shall the Son also himself be subject to him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.29 Else what will they do, who are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?30 And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?31 I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.32 If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to-morrow we die.33 Be not deceived: Evil communications corrupt good manners.34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.35 But some man will say, How are the dead raised? and with what body do they come?36 Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not vivified except it die:37 And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain; it may be of wheat, or of some other grain:38 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed its own body.39 All flesh is not the same flesh; but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of fowls.40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory.42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption:43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power:44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul, the last Adam was made a vivifying spirit.46 However, that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.47 The first man is from the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.48 As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly.49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.51 Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.57 But thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ.58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
