1 Paulo, escolhido por Deus para ser o enviado de Jesus Cristo, e o irmão Sóstenes, escrevemos esta carta à igreja de Deus em Corinto, a vocês chamados por Deus para serem o seu santo povo , e também a todos os que, por toda a parte, invocam o nome de Jesus Cristo, Senhor deles e nosso.3 Que Deus nosso Pai e o Senhor Jesus Cristo vos dê a sua graça e a sua paz.4 Agradeço continuamente a Deus pelos dons maravilhosos que vos deu através de Cristo Jesus.5 Ele enriqueceu toda a vossa vida. Ajudou-vos a dar testemunho dele e deu-vos uma compreensão plena da verdade.6 Tudo o que eu vos disse que Cristo poderia ter feito por vocês aconteceu!7 Agora vocês desfrutam de todos os dons espirituais necessários para fazer a sua vontade, durante este tempo em que esperamos pelo regresso de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.8 E Deus também vos garante que vos manterá fortes até ao fim e que serão por ele considerados isentos de culpa no dia em que Cristo há-de voltar.9 Porque Deus, que vos chamou para um relacionamento maravilhoso com seu Filho Jesus Cristo nosso Senhor, sempre cumpre aquilo que diz.10 Irmãos, suplico-vos que, em nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, não se criem divisões no vosso meio. Imploro-vos que sejam unidos numa só maneira de pensar, num só propósito.11 Porque alguns dos membros da família de Cloé contaram-me das vossas disputas.12 Alguns andam dizendo, eu sou adepto de Paulo; e outros por seu lado afirmam ser seguidores de Apolo, e outros ainda de Pedro; e outra parte também diz serem só eles os verdadeiros seguidores de Cristo.13 Estará Cristo dividido em muitos pedaços erei sido por acaso eu, Paulo, quem morreu pelos vossos pecados? Foi algum de vocês baptizado em meu próprio nome?14 Estou bem contente, agora que não tenha baptizado nenhum de vocês, com excepção de Crispo e Gaio.15 Porque assim ninguém poderá pensar que eu tenha tentado inaugurar uma espécie de igreja de Paulo .16 (Lembro-me ainda que baptizei a família de Estéfanas, mas creio que não baptizei mais ninguém.)17 Porque Cristo não me enviou para fazer baptismos, mas pregar o evangelho. E nem sequer a minha pregação é feita com eloquência, para não tirar poder à mensagem da cruz de Cristo.18 Eu sei bem como parece uma loucura, para os que estão perdidos, dizer que Jesus morreu na cruz para os salvar. Mas, para nós que estamos salvos, isso é a expressão do poder de Deus.19 Porque está escrito:Destruirei a sabedoria dos sábios,aniquilarei a inteligência dos inteligentes.20 Então, e quanto a esses sábios, esses eruditos, esses comentadores das grandes questões mundiais? Deus tornou a sua sabedoria em insensatez.21 Porque Deus, na sua sabedoria, determinou que o homem não o encontraria através da sua inteligência; por isso se manifestou para salvar todos os que crêem na sua mensagem, essa mesma que o mundo acha absurda.22 Para os judeus ela parece absurda porque pedem, por prova, um sinal dos céus; e para os gentios também porque apenas aceitam o que está de acordo com a sua filosofia.23 É assim que quando pregamos sobre Cristo ter sido crucificado, os judeus escandalizam-se e os gentios dizem que é loucura.24 Mas para os que foram chamados para a salvação, tanto judeus como não-judeus, Cristo é a força poderosa de Deus e a sabedoria de Deus.25 O plano de Deus, considerado absurdo, é afinal bem mais inteligente do que o mais sábio dos planos construídos pelos homens. E Deus, naquilo que os homens podem considerar como uma fraqueza, é bem mais forte do que qualquer força humana.26 Reparem, irmãos, que mesmo no vosso meio, entre os que seguem Cristo, são poucos os que pertencem a altos estratos sociais, ou têm poder ou riquezas.27 Pelo contrário, Deus escolheu de propósito as coisas que a sociedade considera absurdas para envergonhar aqueles que pensam ser sábios. E ele escolheu as pessoas fracas para envergonhar as que têm poder.28 Deus escolheu coisas que, no mundo, são insignificantes, que não valem nada, e usou-as para aniquilar o que o mundo considera importante,29 para que ninguém se orgulhe seja do que for na presença de Deus.30 É por ele que vocês estão em de Jesus Cristo. Ele tornou-se a sabedoria de Deus, para nosso benefício. Foi ele quem cumpriu para nós a justiça de Deus; tornou-nos santos e deu-se a si próprio para nossa salvação.31 Tal como se diz nas Escrituras: Quem se quiser gloriar que se glorie no que o Senhor tem feito.

1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours.3 Grace be to you, and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.4 I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:8 Who will also confirm you to the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called to the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind, and in the same judgment.11 For it hath been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by them who are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in my own name.16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas; besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.17 For Christ hath not sent me to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect.18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness; but to us who are saved, it is the power of God.19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?21 For when in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek wisdom:23 But we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling-block, and to the Greeks foolishness;24 But to them who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.26 For ye see your calling, brethren, that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, and things which are not, to bring to naught things that are:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who from God is made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.
