1 Pedro, apóstolo de Jesus Cristo, aos que vivem como estrangeiros no mundo, espalhados pelo Ponto, Galácia, Capadócia, a província da Ásia e Bitínia.2 Deus o Pai escolheu-vos, sabendo que haviam de se tornar seus. E o Espírito Santo vos tem santificado pelo sangue de Jesus Cristo e tornando-vos capazes de lhe obedecer ue Deus vos dê a sua graça e a sua paz em abundância.3 Toda a honra seja dada a Deus e Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo; pois que foi a sua grande misericórdia que nos fez nascer de novo para uma esperança activa pela ressurreição de Cristo de entre os mortos,4 e para a posse da vida que Deus reservou para os seus filhos e que não poderá nem alterar-se, nem deteriorar-se, nem desaparecer.5 Por meio da fé Deus vos guarda pelo seu poder para a salvação, a qual está em vias de se manifestar até chegarem os tempos do fim.6 É caso para estarem bem felizes por isso, ainda que por algum tempo sofram provações diversas.7 Estas tribulações são apenas para provar a vossa fé, para mostrar que ela é forte e genuína. Está a ser testada como o fogo purifica o ouro. Mas a vossa fé é muito mais preciosa para Deus que o simples ouro. Por isso, se a vossa fé permanecer forte depois de testada pelo fogo, trará louvor, glória e honra no dia da vinda de Jesus Cristo.8 Vocês amam Cristo sem nunca o terem visto; mesmo agora, ainda sem o verem mas crendo nele, se alegram com uma felicidade que não se descreve, que vem do céu,9 porque estão a receber a salvação das vossas almas que é o resultado da vossa fé nele.10 Esta salvação foi algo sobre o qual os profetas levantavam questões e reflectiram interessadamente, ao referirem-se à graça que vos é dada, perguntando-se a que tempo e a que circunstâncias o Espírito de Cristo, que estava neles, se referia. Porque os levava a escreverem sobre acontecimentos que haviam de dar-se com Cristo, o seu sofrimento e a glória que se lhe havia de seguir.12 Foi-lhes assim revelado que essas coisas não teriam lugar no tempo deles, mas nos nossos dias. Agora estas boas novas vos têm sido anunciadas por aqueles que vos pregaram pelo Espírito Santo enviado do céu. Para elas os anjos no céu desejam bem atentar.13 Portanto, com um espírito alerta e com sobriedade, coloquem a vossa esperança na graça que será vossa quando Jesus Cristo voltar14 Como filhos obedientes de Deus, não se conformem com a maldade de quando viviam na ignorância15 Mas tal como é santo aquele que vos chamou sejam vocês santos em toda a vossa maneira de viver,16 porque ele próprio disse: Sejam santos, porque eu sou santo.17 E lembrem-se de que o vosso Pai divino, a quem vocês oram, não julga com favoritismos. Ele vos julgará com perfeita justiça por tudo o que tiverem feito; por isso conduzam-se com temor reverente para com Deus, durante a vossa passagem aqui na Terra.18 Vocês sabem que Deus pagou um preço para vos livrar daquela forma inútil de vida que receberam, por tradição, dos vossos pais; e esse resgate pagou-o não com ouro ou prata...19 mas com o precioso sangue de Cristo, o cordeiro de Deus, sem pecado e sem mancha20 Deus o designou com esse propósito ainda antes da criação do mundo, mas foi agora manifestado, nesta fase final da história, para vosso bem21 Por meio dele confiam em Deus, que o ressuscitou da morte e o glorificou, para que a vossa fé e esperança descansem nele.22 Agora podem ter entre vocês um amor fraterno, não fingido, porque as vossas almas foram purificadas pela obediência à verdade. Amem-se pois uns aos outros de todo o coração. J23 Porque vocês nasceram de novo, não de uma semente deteriorável, mas de uma semente imortal, pela palavra de Deus viva e que permanece para sempre.24 Como o profeta diz:A vida terrena murcha como a erva; o esplendor dos homens é como o de uma planta - seca,murcha a flor e cai. Mas a palavra do Senhor permanece para sempre. E esta palavra é a boa nova que vos foi pregada.

1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, to obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you, and peace, be multiplied.3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again to a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith to salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.6 In which ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season (if need be) ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though tried with fire, might be found to praise, and honor, and glory, at the appearing of Jesus Christ:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable, and full of glory:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.10 Concerning which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come to you:11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.12 To whom it was revealed, that not to themselves, but to us they ministered the things which are now reported to you by them that have preached the gospel to you, with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.13 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:15 But as he who hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of deportment.16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain course of life received by tradition from your fathers;19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:20 Who verily was fore-ordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifested in these last times for you,21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit to unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.24 For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and its flower falleth away:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached to you.
