1 Certa tarde, Pedro e João foram ao templo para a oração, às três horas da tarde2 E viram um homem coxo de nascença transportado por outros para ser deixado junto de uma porta do templo, chamada porta Formosa, como acontecia todos os dias, para pedir esmola.3 Quando Pedro e João iam a passar, o homem pediu-lhes esmola.4 Eles olharam-no com atenção e Pedro, por fim, disse: Olha para nós!-5 O coxo fitou-os na esperança da esmola,6 mas Pedro continuou: Não tenho dinheiro para te dar! Mas aquilo que tenho te dou: em nome de Jesus Cristo de Nazaré, levanta-te e anda!7 E, pegando no coxo pela mão direita, ajudou-o a levantar-se. Ao fazê-lo, os ossos dos pés e artelhos fortaleceram-se. Erguendo-se de um salto, ficando de pé, o homem começou a caminhar! Andando, saltando e dando louvores a Deus, entrou no templo com eles.9 Quando o povo o viu andar, o ouviu louvar Deus, e se apercebeu de que era o mesmo pedinte coxo que tantas vezes encontravam na porta Formosa, a surpresa foi enorme11 Todos correram ao Alpendre de Salomão, onde se conservava junto de Pedro e João, e não houve quem não ficasse pasmado com aquela coisa maravilhosa que acontecera.12 Aproveitando a oportunidade, Pedro dirigiu-se à multidão: Homens de Israel, que tem isto assim de tão espantoso? E porque nos olham como se tivéssemos sido nós que, pelo nosso poder e santidade, tivéssemos feito com que este homem andasse?13 Foi o Deus de Abraão, de Isaque, de Jacob e de todos os nossos antepassados quem trouxe glória ao seu servo Jesus através deste acto. Estou a falar daquele a quem rejeitaram perante Pilatos, apesar de este ter decidido pô-lo em liberdade14 Mas vocês não o queriam liberto, esse homem santo e justo; em vez disso, pediram que fosse solto um assassino.15 Mataram o autor da vida, mas Deus o ressuscitou. Somos testemunhas disso!16 Foi o nome de Jesus que curou este homem, e sabem como ele dantes era coxo. A fé no nome de Jesus, fé que nos vem de Deus, é que produziu esta cura perfeita.17 Irmãos, compreendo que o que fizeram a Jesus foi por ignorância, e o mesmo se pode dizer dos vossos dirigentes. Mas Deus estava a dar cumprimento às profecias segundo as quais o Messias teria de padecer todas estas coisas.�19 Agora, porém, arrependam-se e voltem-se para ele, para que vos purifique dos vossos pecados e vos mande tempos de renovação pela presença do Senhor, e para que vos envie outra vez Jesus Cristo.21 Porque ele deverá continuar no céu até que chegue o tempo de Deus restaurar todas as coisas, de acordo com as profecias dos tempos antigos22 Moisés, por exemplo, disse há muito: 'Deus levantará de entre os vossos irmãos um profeta semelhante a mim! Oiçam tudo o que ele vos disser. Quem não o escutar perecerá, excluído do povo.'24 Samuel e todos os profetas que lhe sucederam falaram do que está a acontecer hoje25 Vocês são filhos destes mesmos profetas e estão abrangidos pela promessa que Deus fez aos vossos antepassados, de que todo o mundo será abençoado através do povo israelita; foi esta a promessa que Deus fez a Abraão26 Quando Deus elegeu o seu servo, enviou-o em primeiro lugar a vocês, homens de Israel, para vos abençoar, desviando-vos dos vossos pecados.

1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple, at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple.3 Who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked an alms.4 And Peter fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.5 And he gave heed to them, expecting to receive something from them.6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have I give thee: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God:10 And they knew that it was he who sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened to him.11 And as the lame man who was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.12 And when Peter saw it, he answered to the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.14 But ye denied the Holy One, and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you,15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; of which we are witnesses.16 And his name, through faith in his name, hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yes, the faith which is by him, hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.17 And now, brethren, I know that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.18 But those things which God before had shown by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord,20 And he will send Jesus Christ, who before was preached to you:21 Whom the heaven must receive, until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets, since the world began.22 For Moses truly said to the fathers, A Prophet will the Lord your God raise up to you, of your brethren, like me; him shall ye hear in all things, whatever he shall say to you.23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul who will not hear that Prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.24 And all the prophets also from Samuel, and those that follow, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold these days.25 Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.26 To you first, God having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.
