1 At that time, fell sick, Abijah son of Jeroboam.2 Then said Jeroboam to his wifeArise, I pray thee, and feign thyself another, that it be not known, that, thou, art the wife of Jeroboam,and thou shalt go thy way to Shiloh, lo! there, is Ahijah the prophet, who promised I should be king over this people;3 and thou shall take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a bottle of honey, and shalt go unto him,he, will tell thee what shall befall the young man.4 And the wife of Jeroboam, did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and entered the house of Ahijah,now, Ahijah, could not see, for his eyes were fixed, by reason of his old age.5 But, Yahweh, had said unto AhijahLo! the wife of Jeroboam, coming to enquire something of thee, concerning her son, for he is sick, thus and so, shalt thou speak unto her,though, when she cometh in, she feign to be a stranger-woman.6 So it came to pass, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she entered the doorway, that he saidCome in, thou wife of Jeroboam,wherefore, is it that thou art feigning to be a stranger-woman, seeing that, I, am sent unto thee, with something hard to bear?7 Go, say to JeroboamThus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the midst of the people,and gave thee to be leader over my people Israel;8 and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to thee,and yet thou hast not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me, with all his heart, to do only that which was right in mine eyes;9 but hast made wicked thy doings beyond any who were before thee,and hast gone and made thee ether gods, even molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast, me, behind thy back,10 therefore, behold me! bringing misfortune against the house of Jeroboam, and I will cut off the meanest pertaining to Jeroboam, whether shut up or left at large, in Israel,and will consume after the house of Jeroboam, as one consumeth dung, till it be all gone:11 Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city, shall, the dogs, eat, and, him that dieth in the field, shall, the birds of heaven, eat,For, Yahweh, hath spoken.12 Thou, therefore, arise, go to thine own house,as thy feet are entering the city, the young man shall die.13 Then shall all Israel lament for him, and bury him, for, this one, pertaining to Jeroboam, shall reach a burying-place,because there hath been found in him something good toward Yahweh, God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.14 Therefore will Yahweh raise up for himself a king over Israel, who will cut off the house of Jeroboam, this day, but why, even now?15 Therefore will Yahweh smite Israel, as a reed shaketh in water, and will root out Israel, from off this goodly soil, which he gave unto their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River (Euphrates),because they have made their Sacred Stems, provoking Yahweh to anger:16 That he may deliver up Israel,on account of the sin of Jeroboam, which he committed, and which he caused, Israel, to commit.17 Then arose the wife of Jeroboam, and went her way and entered Tirzah,as, she, was coming into the entrance hall, the young man died.18 And, when they buried him, all Israel lamented him,according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake through his servant Ahijah the prophet.19 Now, the rest of the story of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold them! written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.20 And, the days which Jeroboam reigned, were twenty-two years,and he slept with his fathers, and, Nadab his son, reigned, in his stead.21 And, Rehoboam, son of Solomon, reigned in Judah,forty-one years old, was Rehoboam when he began to reign, and seventeen years, reigned he in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen to put his Name there, out of all the tribes of Israel, and, his mothers name, was Naamah, the Ammonitess.22 And Judah did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh,and provoked him to jealousy, above all that their fathers had done, with their sins which they committed.23 And, they also, built for themselves high places and pillars, and Sacred Stems,upon every high hill, and under every green tree.24 Moreover also, there were, male devotees, in the land,they did according to all the abominable practices of the nations, which Yahweh dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.25 And it came to pass, in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem;26 and took away the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king, yea, the whole, took he away,and took away all the bucklers of gold, which, Solomon, had made.27 So King Rehoboam made, in their stead, bucklers of bronze,and committed them unto the hand of the captains of the runners, who kept guard at the entrance of the house of the king.28 And so it was, whensoever the king went into the house of Yahweh, the runners bare them, and then brought them back into the chamber of the runners.29 Now, the rest of the story of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?30 And there was, war, between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, continually.31 So then Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and, the name of his mother, was Naamah the Ammonitess,and, Abijah his son, reigned, in his stead.

1 Naquele tempo, adoeceu Abias, filho de Jeroboão. 2 E disse Jeroboão à sua mulher: Levanta-te, agora, e disfarça-te, para que não conheçam que és mulher de Jeroboão, e vai a Siló. Eis que lá está o profeta Aías o qual falou de mim, que eu seria rei sobre este povo. 3 E toma na tua mão dez pães, e bolos, e uma botija de mel e vai a ele; ele te declarará o que há de suceder a este menino.

4 E a mulher de Jeroboão assim fez, e se levantou, e foi a Siló, e entrou na casa de Aías; e já Aías não podia ver, porque os seus olhos estavam já escurecidos por causa da sua velhice. 5 Porém o Senhor disse a Aías: Eis que a mulher de Jeroboão vem consultar-te sobre seu filho, porque está doente; assim e assim lhe falarás, e há de ser que, entrando ela, fingirá ser outra.

6 E sucedeu que, ouvindo Aías o ruído de seus pés, entrando ela pela porta, disse ele: Entra, mulher de Jeroboão! Por que te disfarças assim? Pois eu sou enviado a ti com duras novas. 7 Vai e dize a Jeroboão: Assim diz o Senhor, Deus de Israel: Visto que te levantei do meio do povo, e te pus por chefe sobre o meu povo de Israel, 8 e rasguei o reino da casa de Davi, e a ti to dei, e tu não foste como o meu servo Davi, que guardou os meus mandamentos e que andou após mim com todo o seu coração para fazer somente o que era reto aos meus olhos; 9 antes, tu fizeste o mal, pior do que todos os que foram antes de ti, e foste, e fizeste outros deuses e imagens de fundição, para provocar-me à ira, e me lançaste para trás das tuas costas, 10 portanto, eis que trarei mal sobre a casa de Jeroboão, e separarei de Jeroboão todo homem até ao menino, tanto o escravo como o livre em Israel, e lançarei fora os descendentes da casa de Jeroboão, como se lança fora o esterco, até que de todo se acabe. 11 Quem morrer a Jeroboão na cidade, os cães o comerão, e o que morrer no campo, as aves do céu o comerão, porque o Senhor o disse. 12 Tu, pois, levanta-te e vai-te para tua casa; entrando os teus pés na cidade, o menino morrerá. 13 E todo o Israel o pranteará e o sepultará, porque de Jeroboão só este entrará em sepultura, porquanto se achou nele coisa boa para com o Senhor, Deus de Israel, em casa de Jeroboão. 14 O Senhor, porém, levantará para si um rei sobre Israel, que destruirá a casa de Jeroboão no mesmo dia; mas que será também agora! 15 Também o Senhor ferirá a Israel, como se move a cana nas águas, e arrancará a Israel desta boa terra que tinha dado a seus pais, e o espalhará para além do rio, porquanto fizeram os seus bosques, provocando o Senhor à ira. 16 E entregará Israel por causa dos pecados de Jeroboão, o qual pecou e fez pecar a Israel.

17 Então, a mulher de Jeroboão se levantou, e foi, e veio a Tirza; chegando ela ao limiar da porta, morreu o menino. 18 E o sepultaram, e todo o Israel o pranteou, conforme a palavra do Senhor, a qual dissera pelo ministério de seu servo Aías, o profeta. 19 Quanto ao mais dos atos de Jeroboão, como guerreou e como reinou, eis que tudo está escrito no Livro das Crônicas dos Reis de Israel. 20 E foram os dias que Jeroboão reinou vinte e dois anos, e dormiu com seus pais; e Nadabe, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.

21 E Roboão, filho de Salomão, reinava em Judá; de quarenta e um anos de idade era Roboão quando começou a reinar e dezessete anos reinou em Jerusalém, na cidade que o Senhor elegera de todas as tribos de Israel para pôr ali o seu nome; e era o nome de sua mãe Naamá, amonita. 22 E fez Judá o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor; e o provocaram a zelo, mais do que todos os seus pais fizeram com os seus pecados que cometeram. 23 Porque também eles edificaram altos, e estátuas, e imagens do bosque sobre todo alto outeiro e debaixo de toda árvore verde. 24 Havia também rapazes escandalosos na terra; fizeram conforme todas as abominações das nações que o Senhor tinha expulsado de diante dos filhos de Israel. 25 Sucedeu, pois, que, no quinto ano do rei Roboão, Sisaque, rei do Egito, subiu contra Jerusalém. 26 E tomou os tesouros da Casa do Senhor e os tesouros da casa do rei, e ainda tomou tudo, e também tomou todos os escudos de ouro que Salomão tinha feito. 27 E, em lugar deles, fez o rei Roboão escudos de cobre e os entregou nas mãos dos capitães da guarda, que guardavam a porta da casa do rei. 28 E sucedeu que, quando o rei entrava na Casa do Senhor, os da guarda os levavam e os tornavam a trazer à câmara dos da guarda. 29 Quanto ao mais dos atos de Roboão e a tudo quanto fez, porventura, não está tudo escrito no Livro das Crônicas dos Reis de Judá? 30 E houve guerra entre Roboão e Jeroboão todos os seus dias. 31 E Roboão dormiu com seus pais e foi sepultado com seus pais na Cidade de Davi; e era o nome de sua mãe Naamá, amonita; e Abias, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.
