1 In the beginning of the reign of Zedeki'ah the son of Josi'ah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD.2 Thus the LORD said to me: "Make yourself thongs and yoke-bars, and put them on your neck.3 Send word to the king of Edom, the king of Moab, the king of the sons of Ammon, the king of Tyre, and the king of Sidon by the hand of the envoys who have come to Jerusalem to Zedeki'ah king of Judah.4 Give them this charge for their masters: `Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: This is what you shall say to your masters:5 "It is I who by my great power and my outstretched arm have made the earth, with the men and animals that are on the earth, and I give it to whomever it seems right to me.6 Now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnez'zar, the king of Babylon, my servant, and I have given him also the beasts of the field to serve him.7 All the nations shall serve him and his son and his grandson, until the time of his own land comes; then many nations and great kings shall make him their slave.8 "`"But if any nation or kingdom will not serve this Nebuchadnez'zar king of Babylon, and put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, says the LORD, until I have consumed it by his hand.9 So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your soothsayers, or your sorcerers, who are saying to you, `You shall not serve the king of Babylon.'10 For it is a lie which they are prophesying to you, with the result that you will be removed far from your land, and I will drive you out, and you will perish.11 But any nation which will bring its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will leave on its own land, to till it and dwell there, says the LORD."'"12 To Zedeki'ah king of Judah I spoke in like manner: "Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.13 Why will you and your people die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, as the LORD has spoken concerning any nation which will not serve the king of Babylon?14 Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are saying to you, `You shall not serve the king of Babylon,' for it is a lie which they are prophesying to you.15 I have not sent them, says the LORD, but they are prophesying falsely in my name, with the result that I will drive you out and you will perish, you and the prophets who are prophesying to you."16 Then I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, "Thus says the LORD: Do not listen to the words of your prophets who are prophesying to you, saying, `Behold, the vessels of the LORD's house will now shortly be brought back from Babylon,' for it is a lie which they are prophesying to you.17 Do not listen to them; serve the king of Babylon and live. Why should this city become a desolation?18 If they are prophets, and if the word of the LORD is with them, then let them intercede with the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem may not go to Babylon.19 For thus says the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, the sea, the stands, and the rest of the vessels which are left in this city,20 which Nebuchadnez'zar king of Babylon did not take away, when he took into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon Jeconi'ah the son of Jehoi'akim, king of Judah, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem--21 thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem:22 They shall be carried to Babylon and remain there until the day when I give attention to them, says the LORD. Then I will bring them back and restore them to this place."

1 Logo depois que Zedequias, filho de Josias, se tornou rei de Judá, o Senhor Deus me mandou 2 fazer uma canga de madeira com tiras de couro e colocar no meu pescoço. 3 E Deus me disse que mandasse uma mensagem aos reis de Edom, Moabe, Amom, Tiro e Sidom, por meio dos seus embaixadores que tinham vindo a Jerusalém para se encontrar com o rei Zedequias. 4 O Senhor Todo-Poderoso, o Deus de Israel, me mandou dizer aos embaixadores que dessem aos seus reis a seguinte mensagem de Deus:

5 — Eu, com o meu grande poder e com a minha força, criei o mundo, os seres humanos e todos os animais que vivem na terra; e posso dá-los a quem eu quiser. 6 Fui eu que dei todas estas nações ao meu servo, o rei Nabucodonosor, da Babilônia, e fiz com que até os animais selvagens trabalhassem para ele. 7 Todas as nações serão dominadas por ele, pelo seu filho e pelo seu neto, até chegar a hora em que a própria nação dele vai cair. Então a Babilônia será dominada por muitas nações e por poderosos reis.

8 — Mas, se alguma nação ou reino não quiser servir ao rei da Babilônia, nem obedecer ao seu governo, então eu a castigarei com guerra, fome e doença. E no fim deixarei que Nabucodonosor acabe com aquela nação. Sou eu, o Senhor, quem está falando. 9 Não deem atenção aos seus profetas nem a qualquer um que diga que pode adivinhar o futuro, seja por sonhos, por invocação dos espíritos dos mortos ou por feitiçaria. Todos eles dizem que vocês não devem se entregar ao rei da Babilônia. 10 Eles os estão enganando e farão com que vocês sejam expulsos da sua pátria, levados para longe e destruídos. 11 Mas a nação que obedecer ao governo do rei da Babilônia e o servir, eu deixarei que fique na sua própria terra, para cultivá-la e morar nela. Eu, o Senhor, falei.

12 Eu disse a mesma coisa ao rei Zedequias, de Judá:

— Entregue-se ao rei da Babilônia. Sirva a ele e ao seu povo, e o senhor viverá. 13 Por que é que o senhor e o seu povo haveriam de morrer na guerra, ou de fome, ou de doença? Pois é isso que o Senhor Deus disse que acontecerá com qualquer nação que não servir ao rei da Babilônia. 14 Não deem atenção aos profetas que dizem que vocês não devem servir ao rei da Babilônia. Eles estão enganando vocês. 15 O Senhor Deus mesmo disse que não enviou esses profetas e que eles estão mentindo em nome dele. O resultado será este: ele expulsará vocês, e vocês e os profetas que estão contando essas mentiras morrerão.

16 Então eu contei aos sacerdotes e ao povo que o Senhor Deus tinha dito o seguinte:

— Não deem atenção aos profetas que dizem que logo os tesouros do Templo serão trazidos de volta da Babilônia. É mentira! 17 Não os escutem! Sirvam ao rei da Babilônia e assim vocês viverão! Por que fazer com que esta cidade vire um montão de ruínas? 18 Se eles são realmente profetas e se têm a minha mensagem, então peçam a mim, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso, que não permita que os tesouros que foram deixados no Templo e no palácio real de Jerusalém sejam levados para a Babilônia.

19,20 (Quando o rei Nabucodonosor levou o rei de Judá, que era Joaquim, filho de Jeoaquim, e também as pessoas importantes de Judá e Jerusalém para a Babilônia, ele deixou as colunas, a bacia, os suportes e alguns outros tesouros do Templo.)

21 — Prestem atenção no que eu, o Senhor Todo-Poderoso, o Deus de Israel, estou dizendo a respeito dos tesouros que foram deixados no Templo e no palácio real de Jerusalém. 22 Esses tesouros serão levados para a Babilônia e ficarão ali até que eu volte a pensar neles. Então eu os trarei de volta e os devolverei a este lugar. Eu, o Senhor, falei.
