1 *2 Kung 21:1f. Manasse var tolv år när han blev kung, och han regerade femtiofem år*33:1Manasse … femtiofem årCa 697-642 f Kr, samregent med sin far Hiskia till 687 f Kr. Manasse betyder "får att glömma" (jfr 1 Mos 41:51). Assyriska dokument noterar att Manasse sände tribut och byggmaterial. Se även 2 Kung 21. i Jerusalem. 2 *5 Mos 18:9, 1 Kung 14:24, 2 Krön 28:3, 36:14. Han gjorde det som var ont i Herrens ögon, efter den avskyvärda seden hos de folk som Herren hade fördrivit för Israels barn. 3 *2 Kung 18:4, 23:5f, 2 Krön 31:1. Han byggde på nytt upp de offerhöjder som hans far Hiskia hade brutit ner. Och han reste altaren åt baalerna och gjorde asherapålar, och han tillbad och tjänade himlens hela härskara. 4 *5 Mos 12:5, 2 Sam 7:10, 13, 1 Kung 8:29, 9:3, 2 Krön 7:12, 28:24. Han byggde altaren i Herrens hus. Det var om detta hus som Herren hade sagt: "I Jerusalem ska mitt namn vara för evig tid." 5 Han byggde altaren åt himlens hela härskara på de båda förgårdarna till Herrens hus. 6 *3 Mos 18:21, 19:26, 20:2, 2 Krön 28:3. Han lät sina barn gå genom eld i Hinnoms sons dal och utövade teckentyderi, svartkonst och trolldom, skaffade sig andebesvärjare och spåmän och gjorde mycket som var ont i Herrens ögon, så att han väckte hans vrede.

7 *2 Krön 7:12, 16. Avgudabilden som han gjort ställde han in i Guds hus om vilket Gud hade sagt till David och hans son Salomo: "I detta hus och i Jerusalem som jag har utvalt bland alla Israels stammar, vill jag fästa mitt namn för evig tid. 8 Jag ska inte mer låta Israel vandra bort från det land som jag har bestämt åt era fäder, om de bara håller fast vid och följer allt jag befallt dem efter den lag och de stadgar och föreskrifter som de har fått genom Mose." 9 Men Manasse förledde Juda och Jerusalems invånare, så att de gjorde mer ont än de folk som Herren hade utrotat för Israels barn.

10 *2 Kung 21:10f, 2 Krön 24:19.Herren talade till Manasse och hans folk, men de gav inte akt på hans ord. 11 *5 Mos 28:36, 2 Kung 19:28, 2 Krön 36:6, Hes 19:4. Då lät Herren den assyriske kungens arméer*33:11den assyriske kungens arméerKanske Assurbanipal (ca 667-627 f Kr). Mellan 652-646 f Kr slog han ner ett stort uppror som Babel och dess allierade (araber, amoreer m fl) hade startat, och kanske hade Manasse gjort gemensam sak med dem liksom hans far Hiskia före honom (2 Kung 20:12). komma över dem. De slog Manasse i bojor och fängslade honom med kopparbojor och förde honom till Babel. 12 Men när han nu var i nöd, bönföll han inför Herren sin Gud och ödmjukade sig djupt för sina fäders Gud. 13 *Esra 8:23, Dan 4:32. Och när han bad så till honom, bönhörde Herren honom och lyssnade till hans bön och lät honom komma tillbaka till Jerusalem som kung. Då insåg Manasse att det är Herren som är Gud.

14 Han byggde en yttermur till Davids stad väster om Gihon i dalen, fram till ingången till Fiskporten och runt omkring Ofel och gjorde den mycket hög. Sedan tillsatte han befälhavare i alla befästa städer i Juda. 15 Han avlägsnade de främmande gudarna och avgudabilden från Herrens hus, liksom alla de altaren som han hade byggt på det berg där Herrens hus stod, och i Jerusalem, och han kastade ut dem utanför staden. 16 Sedan upprättade han Herrens altare och offrade gemenskapsoffer och tackoffer på det och uppmanade Juda att tjäna Herren, Israels Gud. 17 *1 Kung 3:2. Folket offrade ändå på höjderna, men bara åt Herren sin Gud.

18 *2 Kung 21:17f. Vad som mer finns att säga om Manasse och om hans bön till sin Gud och om de ord som siarna talade till honom i Herrens, Israels Guds, namn, det står i Israels kungars krönika. 19 Om hans bön och hur han blev bönhörd, om all hans synd och trolöshet och om de platser där han byggde offerhöjder och ställde upp asherapålar och gjutna bilder, innan han ödmjukade sig, är skrivet i Hosajs krönika. 20 Manasse gick till vila hos sina fäder, och man begravde honom där han bodde. Hans son Amon blev kung efter honom.

21 *2 Kung 21:19f. Amon var tjugotvå år när han blev kung, och han regerade två år*33:21Amon … två årCa 642-640 f Kr. Amon betyder "betrodd" eller "hantverkare" och var också ett egyptiskt gudanamn (Jer 46:25). Se även 2 Kung 21:19f. i Jerusalem. 22 Han gjorde det som var ont i Herrens ögon, så som hans far Manasse hade gjort. Han offrade åt alla de avgudabilder som hans far Manasse hade tillverkat, och han dyrkade dem. 23 Men han ödmjukade sig inte inför Herren, så som hans far Manasse hade gjort, utan han hopade skuld på skuld. 24 *2 Kung 12:20, 2 Krön 25:27. Och hans tjänare sammansvor sig mot honom och dödade honom hemma i hans hus.

25 Men folket i landet dödade alla som hade sammansvurit sig mot kung Amon. Därefter gjorde folket i landet hans son Josia till kung efter honom.

3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.*33.3 he built…: Heb. he returned and built 4 Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever. 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. 6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. 7 And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever: 8 Neither will I any more remove the foot of Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses. 9 So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, and to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel. 10 And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken.

11 Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon.*33.11 of the king: Heb. which were the king’s*33.11 fetters: or, chains 12 And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, 13 And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he was God. 14 Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side of Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah.*33.14 Ophel: or, the tower 15 And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built in the mount of the house of the LORD, and in Jerusalem, and cast them out of the city. 16 And he repaired the altar of the LORD, and sacrificed thereon peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Judah to serve the LORD God of Israel. 17 Nevertheless the people did sacrifice still in the high places, yet unto the LORD their God only.

18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer unto his God, and the words of the seers that spake to him in the name of the LORD God of Israel, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel. 19 His prayer also, and how God was intreated of him, and all his sin, and his trespass, and the places wherein he built high places, and set up groves and graven images, before he was humbled: behold, they are written among the sayings of the seers.*33.19 the seers: or, Hosai

20 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house: and Amon his son reigned in his stead.

21 Amon was two and twenty years old when he began to reign, and reigned two years in Jerusalem. 22 But he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as did Manasseh his father: for Amon sacrificed unto all the carved images which Manasseh his father had made, and served them; 23 And humbled not himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.*33.23 trespassed more and more: Heb. multiplied trespass 24 And his servants conspired against him, and slew him in his own house.

25 But the people of the land slew all them that had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.
