1 *1 Kung 22:51, 2 Kung 8:16, 1 Krön 3:11. Joshafat gick till vila hos sina fäder och blev begravd hos sina fäder i Davids stad. Hans son Joram blev kung efter honom.

2 Joram hade bröder, söner till Joshafat: Asarja, Jehiel, Sakarja, Asarjahu, Mikael och Shefatja. Alla dessa var söner till Joshafat, Israels kung. 3 Deras far gav dem många gåvor i silver och guld och andra dyrbarheter, dessutom befästa städer i Juda. Men kungadömet gav han åt Joram, eftersom han var den förstfödde. 4 När Joram hade tagit över sin fars kungadöme och stärkt sin ställning dödade han alla sina bröder med svärd, liksom några av Israels furstar.

5 *2 Kung 8:17f. Joram var trettiotvå år när han blev kung, och han regerade åtta år*21:5Joram … åtta årCa 848-841 f Kr, samregent med sin far Joshafat från 853 f Kr. Joram betyder "Herren är upphöjd". Se även 2 Kung 8:16f. i Jerusalem. 6 Men han vandrade på Israels kungars väg, så som Ahabs hus hade gjort, för hans hustru var en dotter till Ahab*21:6en dotter till AhabAtajla (22:2), dotter till den hedniska Isebel (vers 13, 1 Kung 18:19).. Han gjorde det som var ont i Herrens ögon. 7 *2 Sam 7:12f, 21:17, 1 Kung 11:36, 15:4, Ps 132:11, 17, Ords 13:9. Men Herren ville inte fördärva Davids hus, på grund av det förbund som han hade slutit med David. Han hade lovat att han och hans söner skulle ha en lampa för alltid.

8 *2 Kung 8:20f. I hans tid avföll Edom*21:8EdomObadjas profetia mot Edom härstammar kanske från denna tid (se Obadjas bok). från Juda välde och satte en egen kung över sig. 9 Då drog Joram dit med sina befälhavare och alla sina vagnar. Han bröt upp på natten och slog edomiterna, som hade omringat honom, och befälhavarna över deras vagnar. 10 Så avföll Edom från Juda välde, och det har varit skilt därifrån ända till denna dag. Vid samma tid avföll också Libna*21:10LibnaBefäst stad ca 5 mil sydväst om Jerusalem. från Jorams välde, därför att han hade övergett Herren, sina fäders Gud. 11 Också han uppförde offerhöjder på bergen i Juda och förledde så Jerusalems invånare till trolöshet och förförde Juda.

12 Och det kom ett brev till honom från profeten Elia där det stod: "Så säger Herren, din fader Davids Gud: Du har inte vandrat på din far Joshafats vägar eller på Juda kung Asas vägar, 13 utan du har vandrat på Israels kungars väg och förlett Juda och Jerusalems invånare till avgudadyrkan, på samma sätt som Ahabs hus har gjort. Du har dräpt dina bröder, dem som hörde till din fars hus och som var bättre än du. 14 Se, Herren ska straffa ditt folk, dina barn och dina hustrur och allt du äger med en stor olycka. 15 Och du ska själv drabbas av en sjukdom i dina inälvor, tills dina inälvor efter en tid faller ut till följd av sjukdomen."

16 Och Herren eggade upp mot Joram filisteerna och de araber som bodde nära nubierna*21:16nubiernaHebr. kushím betyder normalt "nubier" (från nuvarande Sudan). Kanske används det också om arabiska stammar (jfr 4 Mos 12:1 med not).. 17 De drog upp mot Juda och bröt in där och förde bort alla dyrbarheter som fanns i kungapalatset, dessutom hans söner och hustrur, så att han inte hade kvar någon av sina söner utom Joahas,*21:17JoahasBetyder "Herren griper", en alternativ form för Ahasja (22:1). sin yngste son. 18 Sedan slog Herren honom med en obotlig sjukdom i inälvorna. 19 *1 Sam 31:12, 2 Krön 16:14, Jer 34:5. Och efter en tid, när två år hade gått, föll hans inälvor ut till följd av sjukdomen och han dog i svåra plågor.

Hans folk tände inte något bål till hans ära, så som de hade gjort efter hans fäder. 20 *2 Krön 24:25, 28:27. Han var trettiotvå år när han blev kung, och han regerade åtta år i Jerusalem. Han gick bort utan att någon saknade honom, och man begravde honom i Davids stad, men inte i kungagravarna.

1 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead. 2 And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel. 3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn. 4 Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.

5 Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD. 7 Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.*21.7 light: Heb. lamp, or, candle

8 In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.*21.8 dominion: Heb. hand 9 Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots. 10 So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers. 11 Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.

12 And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of David thy father, Because thou hast not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat thy father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah, 13 But hast walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and hast made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also hast slain thy brethren of thy father’s house, which were better than thyself: 14 Behold, with a great plague will the LORD smite thy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:*21.14 a great…: Heb. a great stroke 15 And thou shalt have great sickness by disease of thy bowels, until thy bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.

16 Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians: 17 And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.*21.17 carried…: Heb. carried captive*21.17 Jehoahaz: also called, Ahaziah, or, Azariah

18 And after all this the LORD smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease. 19 And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers. 20 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired.
