1 Disse mais Jeová a Moisés nas planícies de Moabe junto ao Jordão na altura de Jericó:2 Manda os filhos de Israel que da herança da sua possessão dêem cidades aos levitas para habitarem; dareis aos levitas arrabaldes para as cidades.3 Eles terão as cidades para habitarem; e os arrabaldes delas serão para os seus gados, para a sua fazenda e para todos os seus animais.4 Os arrabaldes das cidades, que dareis aos levitas, se estenderão do muro da cidade e para fora mil cúbitos em roda.5 Fora da cidade medireis para o lado do oriente dois mil cúbitos, para o lado do sul dois mil cúbitos, para o lado do ocidente dois mil cúbitos e para o lado do norte dois mil cúbitos, e a cidade estará no meio. Isto terão por arrabaldes das cidades.6 As cidades que dareis aos levitas serão as seis cidades de refúgio, as quais dareis para que nelas se acolha o homicida; além destas dareis aos levitas quarenta e duas cidades.7 Todas as cidades que dareis aos levitas serão quarenta e oito cidades, juntamente com os seus arrabaldes.8 No tocante às cidades que dareis da possessão dos filhos de Israel, da tribo que for grande dareis proporcionalmente muitas e da que for pequena dareis proporcionalmente poucas: cada uma, segundo a sua herança que receber, dará das suas cidades aos levitas.9 Disse mais Jeová a Moisés:10 Fala aos filhos de Israel e dize-lhes: Quando passardes o Jordão para a terra de Canaã,11 escolhereis para vós cidades que vos sirvam de cidades de refúgio; para que ali se acolha o homicida que matar a alguém sem intenção.12 As cidades serão para vos refugiardes do vingador de sangue, a fim de que não morra o homicida, antes de ser apresentado perante a congregação para o julgamento.13 As cidades que dareis vos serão seis cidades de refúgio.14 dareis três cidades além do Jordão, e três cidades na terra de Canaã; cidades de refúgio serão.15 Para os filhos de Israel, e para o estrangeiro e para o peregrino no meio deles, serão estas seis cidades de refúgio; a fim de que ali se acolha todo aquele que matar a alguém sem intenção.16 Porém, se alguém ferir a outro com instrumento de ferro, de sorte que este venha morrer; homicida é; certamente será morto o homicida.17 Se alguém ferir a outro com uma pedra na mão, que possa causar a morte, e este vier a morrer; homicida é; certamente será morto o homicida.18 Se alguém ferir a outro com um instrumento de pau, que possa causar a morte, e este morrer; homicida é; certamente será morto o homicida.19 O vingador mesmo matará ao homicida; quando o encontrar, matá-lo-á.20 Se alguém por ódio empurrar a outro, e atirar sobre ele alguma coisa de intento malévolo, de maneira que este venha a morrer;21 ou por inimizade o ferir com a mão, de sorte que venha a morrer; certamente será morto aquele que o feriu; homicida é. O vingador do sangue matará ao homicida, quando o encontrar.22 Porém, se alguém empurrar a outro acidentalmente sem inimizade, ou atirar sobre ele alguma coisa não de intento malévolo,23 ou, não o vendo, atirar uma pedra sobre ele, que possa causar-lhe a morte, de sorte que este venha a morrer, sem que fosse seu inimigo, nem procurasse o seu mal;24 a congregação julgará entre o feridor e o vingador do sangue de acordo com estas prescrições.25 Livrará ao homicida da mão do vingador do sangue, e o fará voltar à sua cidade de refúgio, a que se tinha acolhido; ali habitará até a morte do sumo sacerdote, que foi ungido com o óleo sagrado.26 Mas, se o homicida sair em qualquer tempo para fora dos limites da sua cidade de refúgio, a que se acolher;27 e o vingador do sangue achar o homicida fora dos limites da sua cidade de refúgio, e o matar, não será culpado do sangue;28 porque este devia ter ficado na sua cidade de refúgio até a morte do sumo sacerdote. Mas, depois da morte do sumo sacerdote, voltará o homicida para a terra da sua possessão.29 Estas coisas vos serão por prescrições de direito durante as vossas gerações em todas as vossas habitações.30 Todo aquele que matar a alguém será morto depois de ouvidas as testemunhas; mas uma só testemunha não dará testemunho contra alguém para fazê-lo morrer.31 Não aceitareis resgate pela vida dum homicida, que merece a morte; porém ele certamente será morto.32 Também não aceitareis resgate por aquele que se tenha acolhido à sua cidade de refúgio, de maneira que ele torne a habitar na terra, antes da morte do sacerdote.33 Assim não profanareis a terra em que estais, porque o sangue profana a terra; nenhuma expiação se poderá fazer pela terra por causa do sangue que nela for derramado, senão com o sangue daquele que o derramou.34 Não contaminareis a terra em que vós habitais, no meio da qual eu habito; pois eu Jeová habito no meio dos filhos de Israel.

1 And the Lord spoke these things also to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, over against Jericho:2 Command the children of Israel that they give to the Levites out of their possessions,3 Cities to dwell in, and their suburbs round about: that they may abide in the towns, and the suburbs may be for their cattle and beasts:4 Which suburbs shall reach from the walls of the cities outward, a thousand paces on every side:5 Toward the east shall be two thousand cubits: and toward the south in like manner shall be two thousand cubits: toward the sea also, which looketh to the west, shall be the same extent: and the north side shall be bounded with the like limits. And the cities shall be in the midst, and the suburbs without.6 And among the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, six shall be separated for refuge to fugitives, that he who hath shed blood may flee to them: and besides these there shall be other forty-two cities,7 That is, in all forty-eight with their suburbs.8 And of these cities which shall be given out of the possessions of the children of Israel, from them that have more, more shall be taken: and from them that have less, fewer. Each shall give towns to the Levites according to the extent of their inheritance.9 The Lord said to Moses:10 Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them: When you shall have passed over the Jordan into the land of Chanaan,11 Determine what cities shall be for the refuge of fugitives, who have shed blood against their will.12 And when the fugitive shall be in them, the kinsman of him that is slain may not have power to kill him, until he stand before the multitude, and his cause be judged.13 And of those cities, that are separated for the refuge of fugitives,14 Three shall be beyond the Jordan, and three in the land of Chanaan,15 As well for the children of Israel as for strangers and sojourners, that he may flee to them, who hath shed blood against his will.16 If any man strike with iron, and he die that was struck : he shall be guilty of murder, and he himself shall die.17 If he throw a stone, and he that is struck die: he shall be punished in the same manner.18 If he that is struck with wood die: he shall be revenged by the blood of him that struck him.19 The kinsman of him that was slain, shall kill the murderer: as soon as he apprehendeth him, he shall kill him.20 If through hatred any one push a man, or fling any thing- at him with ill design:21 Or being his enemy, strike; him with his hand, and he die: the striker shall be guilty of murder: the kinsman of him that was slain as soon as he findeth him, shall kill him.22 But if by chance medley, and without hatred,23 And enmity, he do any of these things,24 And this be proved in the hearing of the people, and the cause be debated between him that struck, and the next of kin:25 The innocent shall be delivered from the hand of the revenger, and shall be brought back by sentence into the city, to which he had fled, and he shall abide there until the death of the high priest, that is anointed with the holy oil.26 If the murderer be found without the limits of the cities that are appointed for the banished,27 And be struck by him that is the avenger of blood: he shall not be guilty that killed him.28 For the fugitive ought to have stayed in the city until the death of the high priest: and after he is dead, then shall the manslayer return to his own country.29 These things shall be perpetual, and for an ordinance in all your dwellings.30 The murderer shall be punished by witnesses: none shall be condemned upon the evidence of one man.31 You shall not take money of him that is guilty of blood, but he shall die forthwith.32 The banished and fugitives before the death of the high priest may by no means return into their own cities.33 Defile not the land of your habitation, which is stained with the blood of the innocent: neither can it otherwise be expiated, but by his blood that hath shed the blood of another.34 And thus shall your possession he cleansed, myself abiding with you. For I am the Lord that dwell among the children of Israel.
