1 Então se chegaram os que eram cabeças das casas paternas da família dos filhos de Gileade, filho de Maquir, filho de Manassés, das famílias dos filhos de José, e falaram perante Moisés e perante os príncipes, cabeças das casas paternas dos filhos de Israel;2 e disseram: Jeová ordenou a meu senhor que por sorte repartisse a terra em herança aos filhos de Israel; e meu senhor recebeu ordem de Jeová de dar a herança de Zelofeade, nosso irmão, a suas filhas.3 Se elas se casarem com alguns dos filhos das outras tribos dos filhos de Israel, a sua herança será retirada da herança de nossos pais, e acrescentada à herança da tribo a que vierem a pertencer; assim será tirada da sorte da nossa herança.4 Quando chegar o jubileu dos filhos de Israel, a herança delas será acrescentada à herança da tribo a que pertencerem; assim a sua herança será retirada da herança da tribo de nossos pais.5 Então Moisés ordenou aos filhos de Israel segundo a palavra de Jeová, dizendo: A tribo dos filhos de José fala o que é justo.6 Isto é o que Jeová ordena no tocante às filhas de Zelofeade, dizendo: Casem com quem quiserem; contanto que se casem na família da tribo de seu pai.7 Assim a herança dos filhos de Israel não passará de tribo em tribo, porque os filhos de Israel se apegarão cada um à herança da tribo de seus pais.8 Todas as filhas, que possuírem herança em qualquer tribo dos filhos de Israel, tomarão maridos da família da tribo de seu pai, para que os filhos de Israel possuam cada um a herança de seus pais.9 Assim nenhuma herança passará de uma tribo a outra, porque as tribos dos filhos de Israel se apegarão cada uma à sua herança.10 Como Jeová ordenou a Moisés, assim fizeram as filhas de Zelofeade;11 pois Maalá, Tirza, Hogla, Milca e Noa, filhas de Zelofeade, se casaram com os filhos dos seus tios paternos.12 Casaram-se nas famílias dos filhos de Manassés, filho de José, e a sua herança permaneceu na tribo da família de seu pai.13 Estes são os mandamentos e os juízos, que Jeová, por intermédio de Moisés, ordenou aos filhos de Israel, nas planícies de Moabe junto ao Jordão na altura de Jericó.

1 And the princes of the families of Galaad, the son of Machir, the son of Manasses, of the stock Of the children of Joseph, came and spoke to Moses before the princes of Israel, and said:2 The Lord hath commanded thee, my lord, that thou shouldst divide the land by lot to the children of Israel, and that thou shouldst give to the daughters of Salphaad our brother the possession due to their father:3 Now if men of another tribe take them to wives, their possession will follow them, and being transferred to another tribe, will be a diminishing of our inheritance.4 And so it shall come to pass, that when the jubilee, that is, the fiftieth year of remission, is come, the distribution made by the lots shall be confounded, and the possession of the one shall pass to the others.5 Moses answered the children of Israel, and said by the command of the Lord: The tribe of the children of Joseph hath spoken rightly.6 And this is the law promulgated by the Lord touching the daughters of Salphaad: Let them marry to whom they will, only so that it be to men of their own tribe.7 Lest the possession of the children of Israel be mingled from tribe to tribe. For all men shall marry wives of their own tribe and kindred:8 And all women shall take husbands of the same tribe: that the inheritance may remain in the families,9 And that the tribes be not mingled one with another, but remain so10 As they were separated by the Lord. And the daughters of Salphaad did as was commanded:11 And Maala, and Thersa, and Hegla, and Melcha, and Noa were married to the sons of their uncle by their father12 Of the family of Manasses, who was the son of Joseph: and the possession that had been allotted to them, remained in the tribe and family of their father.13 These are the commandments and judgments, which the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses to the children of Israel, in the plains of Moab upon the Jordan over against Jericho.
