1 Disse Jesus também aos discípulos: Havia um homem rico, que tinha um administrador; e este lhe foi denunciado como esbanjador dos seus bens.2 Chamou-o e perguntou-lhe: Que é isto que ouço dizer de ti? dá conta da tua administração; pois já não podes mais ser meu administrador.3 Disse o administrador consigo: Que hei de fazer, já que o meu amo me tira a administração? Não tenho forças para cavar, de mendigar tenho vergonha.4 Eu sei o que hei de fazer para que, quando for despedido do meu emprego, me recebam em suas casas.5 Tendo chamado cada um dos devedores do seu amo, perguntou ao primeiro: Quanto deves ao meu amo?6 Respondeu ele: Cem cados de azeite. Disse-lhe, então: Toma a tua conta, senta-te depressa e escreve cinqüenta.7 Depois perguntou a outro: E tu quanto deves? Respondeu ele: Cem coros de trigo. Disse-lhe: Toma a tua conta e escreve oitenta.8 O amo louvou ao administrador iníquo, por haver procedido sabiamente; porque os filhos deste mundo são mais sábios para com a sua geração do que os filhos da luz.9 Eu vos digo: Granjeai amigos com as riquezas da iniqüidade, para que, quando estas vos faltarem, vos recebam eles nos tabernáculos eternos.10 Quem é fiel no pouco, também é fiel no muito; e quem é injusto no pouco, também é injusto no muito.11 Se, pois, não fostes fiéis nas riquezas injustas, quem vos confiará as verdadeiras?12 Se não fostes fiéis no alheio, quem vos dará o que é nosso?13 Nenhum servo pode servir a dois senhores; porque ou há de aborrecer a um e amar ao outro, ou há de unir-se a um e desprezar ao outro. Não podeis servir a Deus e as riquezas.14 Os fariseus, que eram avarentos, ouviam tudo isto, e mofavam dele.15 Disse-lhes Jesus: Vós sois os que vos justificais diante dos homens, mas Deus conhece os vossos corações; pois o que é elevado entre os homens, é abominação diante de Deus.16 A lei e os profetas duraram até João; desde esse tempo o Evangelho do reino de Deus é anunciado, e todos à força entram nele.17 É, porém, mais fácil passar o céu e a terra, do que cair um til da Lei.18 Todo aquele que repudia sua mulher e casa com outra, comete adultério; e quem casa com a mulher repudiada, comete adultério.19 Havia um homem rico, que se vestia de púrpura e de linho finíssimo, e que todos os dias se regalava esplendidamente.20 Um mendigo chamado Lázaro, coberto de chagas, fora deitado ao seu portão,21 desejoso de fartar-se com as migalhas que caíam da mesa do rico; e até os cães vinham lamber-lhe as úlceras.22 Morreu o mendigo, e foi levado pelos anjos para o seio de Abraão; morreu também o rico, e foi sepultado.23 No Hades, estando em tormentos, levantou os olhos e viu ao longe a Abraão e a Lázaro no seu seio.24 Clamou: Pai Abraão, tem compaixão de mim! e manda a Lázaro que molhe a ponta do seu dedo, e me refresque a língua, porque estou atormentado nesta chama.25 Mas Abraão respondeu: Filho, lembra-te que recebeste os teus bens na tua vida, e Lázaro do mesmo modo os males; agora, porém, ele está consolado, e tu em tormentos.26 Demais, entre nós e vós está firmado um grande abismo, de modo que os que querem passar daqui para vós não podem, nem os de lá passar para nós.27 Ele replicou: Pai, eu te rogo, então, que o mandes à casa de meu pai28 (pois tenho cinco irmãos), para os avisar a fim de não suceder virem eles também para este lugar de tormento.29 Mas Abraão disse: Eles têm Moisés e os profetas; ouçam-nos.30 Respondeu ele: Não, pai Abraão, mas se alguém for ter com eles dentre os mortos, hão de se arrepender.31 Replicou-lhe Abraão: Se não ouvem a Moisés e aos profetas, tampouco se deixarão persuadir, ainda que ressuscite alguém dentre os mortos.

1 Now Jesus was saying to the disciples,"A rich man had a manager who was accused of wasting his assets.2 So he called for him and asked him, ‘What's this I hear about you? Give me a report about your management, because you can't be my manager any longer.’3 "Then the manager said to himself, ‘What should I do? My master is taking my position away from me. I'm not strong enough to dig, and I'm ashamed to beg. 4I know what I'll do so that peoplewill welcome me into their homes when I'm dismissed from my job.’5 "So he called for each of his master's debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’6 The man replied, ‘A hundred jars of olive oil.’ The manager told him, ‘Get your bill. Sit down quickly and write "fifty."’7 Then he asked another debtor,‘How much do you owe?’ The man replied, ‘A hundred containers of wheat.’ The managertold him, ‘Get your bill and write "eighty."’8 The master praised the dishonest manager for being so clever. For worldly peopleare more clever than enlightened peoplein dealing with their own generation.9 "I'm telling you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous riches,so that when they're gone you'll be welcomedinto eternal homes.10 Whoever is faithful with very little is also faithful with a lot, and whoever is dishonest with very little is also dishonest with a lot.11 So if you have not been faithful with unrighteous riches,who will trust you with true wealth?12 And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to foreigners, who will give you what is your own?13 "No servant can serve two masters. For either he will hate one and love the other, or be loyal to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and riches!"14 Now the Pharisees, who love money, had been listening to all this and began to ridicule Jesus.15 So he said to them,"You try to justify yourselves in front of people, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly valued by people is detestable to God.16 "The law and the Prophets were prophesyinguntil the time ofJohn. Since then, the good news about the kingdom of God has been proclaimed, and everyone is trying to enter it by force.17 However, it is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for one stroke of a letter in the law to be dropped.18 Any man who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery, and the man who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery."19 "Once there was a rich man who used to dress in purple and fine linen and live in great luxury every day.20 A beggar named Lazarus, who was covered with sores, was brought to his gate.21 He was always craving to satisfy his hunger with what fellfrom the rich man's table. In fact, even the dogs used to come and lick his sores.22 "One day the beggar died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried.23 In Hades,where he was in constant torture, he looked up and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus by his side.24 So he shouted, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me! Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and to cool off my tongue, because I am suffering in this fire.’25 But Abraham said, ‘My child, remember that during your lifetime you received blessings,while Lazarus received hardships.But now he is being comforted here, while you suffer.26 Besides all this, a wide chasm has been fixed between us, so that those who want to cross from this side to you can't do so, nor can they cross from your side to us.’27 "The rich mansaid, ‘Then I beg you, father, send him to my father's house—28 for I have five brothers—to warn them, so that they won't end up in this place of torture, too.’29 Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets. They should listen to them!’30 But the rich manreplied, ‘No, father Abraham! Yet if someone from the dead went to them, they would repent.’31 Then Abrahamsaid to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded, even if someone rises from the dead.’"
