Josafá e o seu cuidado em instruir o povo

1 1Rs 15.24Em seu lugar, reinou Josafá, seu filho, e fortaleceu-se contra Israel. 2 Pôs forças em 2Cr 11.5todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá e estabeleceu guarnições na terra de Judá e nas cidades de Efraim, 2Cr 15.8que Asa, seu pai, tinha tomado. 3 Jeová era com Josafá, porque andou pelos primeiros caminhos de Davi, seu pai, e não recorreu a Baalins; 4 mas recorreu ao Deus de seu pai e andou nos mandamentos dele e 1Rs 12.28não segundo as obras de Israel. 5 Portanto, Jeová estabeleceu o reino nas mãos dele; e todo o Judá trouxe presentes a Josafá, 2Cr 18.1que teve riquezas e glória em abundância. 6 Exaltou-se o seu coração nos caminhos de Jeová; também 2Cr 15.17tirou de Judá os altos e os Aserins.

7 No terceiro ano do seu reinado, enviou os seus príncipes, Ben-Hail, Obadias, Zacarias, Natanael e Micaia, 2Cr 15.3;35.3para ensinarem nas cidades de Judá; 8 e, com estes, os 2Cr 19.8levitas, Semaías, Netanias, Zebadias, Asael, Semiramote, Jônatas, Adonias, Tobias, e Tobe-Adonias, levitas, e, com eles, os sacerdotes Elisama e Jorão. 9 Ensinaram em Judá, levando consigo Dt 6.4-9o livro da lei de Jeová; iam por todas as cidades de Judá e ensinavam a todo o povo.

10 2Cr 14.14O terror da parte de Jeová caiu sobre todos os reinos das terras que estavam ao redor de Judá, de modo que não fizeram guerra contra Josafá. 11 2Cr 9.14;26.8Alguns dos filisteus traziam presentes a Josafá e prata como tributo; também os árabes lhe traziam gado miúdo, sete mil e setecentos carneiros e sete mil e setecentos bodes. 12 Josafá tornou-se em extremo grande e edificou em Judá castelos e cidades-armazéns. 13 Empreendeu muitas obras na cidade de Judá e tinha em Jerusalém homens de guerra, ilustres em valor. 14 Este foi o número deles, segundo as suas famílias; de Judá, os capitães de mil: Adna, capitão, com trezentos mil homens ilustres em valor; 15 depois dele, o capitão Joanã, com duzentos e oitenta mil; 16 depois dele, Amazias, filho de Zicri, Jz 5.2,9;1Cr 29.9que ofereceu voluntariamente a Jeová; e, com ele, duzentos mil homens ilustres em valor; 17 de Benjamim, Eliada, homem ilustre em valor, com duzentos mil armados de arcos e de escudos; 18 e, depois dele, Jozabade, com cento e oitenta mil preparados para a guerra. 19 Estes foram os que assistiam ao rei, afora 2Cr 17.2os que o rei pôs nas cidades fortificadas por todo o Judá.

1 And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel. 2 And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken. 3 And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;17.3 of…: or, of his father, and of David 4 But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel. 5 Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.17.5 brought: Heb. gave 6 And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.17.6 was…: that is, was encouraged

7 Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Ben-hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah. 8 And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests. 9 And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

10 And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.17.10 fell: Heb. was 11 Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.

12 And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.17.12 castles: or, palaces 13 And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem. 14 And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand. 15 And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.17.15 next…: Heb. at his hand 16 And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour. 17 And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand. 18 And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war. 19 These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.
