1 Provérbios de Salomão, filho de Davi, rei de Israel:2 Para se conhecer a sabedoria e a instrução; Para se discernirem as palavras de inteligência;3 Para se instruir em sábio procedimento, Em justiça, juízo e eqüidade;4 Para se dar prudência aos simples, Conhecimento e discrição ao mancebo.5 Ouça o sábio, e cresça na ciência, E adquira o entendido o poder de se governar,6 Para entender provérbio e parábola, As palavras do sábio, e os seus aforismos.7 O temor de Jeová é o princípio do conhecimento, Mas os insensatos desprezam a sabedoria e a instrução.8 Ouve, filho meu, a instrução de teu pai. E não abandones o ensino de tua mãe;9 Pois serão para a tua cabeça grinaldas de graça, E colares para o teu pescoço.10 Filho meu, se os pecadores te quiserem seduzir, Não consintas.11 Se disserem: Vem conosco, Ponhamo-nos em emboscada para derramar sangue, Espreitemos sem motivo o inocente;12 Como o Cheol, traguemo-los vivos, E inteiros como os que baixam à cova;13 Acharemos toda a sorte de bens preciosos, Encheremos de despojos as nossas casas;14 Lança conosco a tua sorte, Teremos todos nós uma só bolsa:15 Filho meu, não os acompanhes no caminho, Guarda da sua vereda os teus pés;16 Porque os seus pés correm para o mal, E eles se dão pressa a derramar sangue.17 Pois debalde se estende a rede À vista de qualquer ave.18 Estes põem-se em emboscada contra o seu próprio sangue, E espreitam as suas próprias vidas.19 Tal é a sorte daquele que tem o espírito de ganância; Este espírito tira a vida de quem o possui.20 A sabedoria grita nas ruas, Nas praças levanta a sua voz;21 Clama no lugar mais concorrido, À entrada das portas e na cidade profere as suas palavras:22 Até quando, ó estúpidos, amareis a estupidez? Até quando se deleitarão no escárnio os escarnecedores, E aborrecerão os loucos o conhecimento?23 Convertei-vos pela minha repreensão: Eis que vos exporei o meu pensamento, E vos farei conhecer as minhas palavras.24 Visto que eu clamei, e vós recusastes; Estendi a mão, e ninguém se importou;25 Visto que rejeitastes todo o meu conselho, E não quisestes a minha repreensão:26 Também eu me rirei no dia da vossa calamidade, E zombarei quando vos sobrevier o terror,27 Quando vos sobrevier o terror como uma tempestade, Quando vos passar a calamidade como um redemoinho, Quando vos sobrevierem a tribulação e a angústia.28 Então me invocarão, porém não responderei; Diligentemente me procurarão, porém não me acharão.29 Pois que aborreceram o conhecimento, E não escolheram o temor de Jeová;30 Não quiseram o meu conselho, E desprezaram toda a minha repreensão;31 Portanto comerão do fruto do seu caminho, E se fartarão dos seus conselhos.32 Pois o retroceder dos estúpidos os matará, E a prosperidade dos loucos os destruirá.33 Mas quem me ouvir, habitará em segurança, E ficará tranqüilo, sem receio do mal.

To discern and understand words.3 To receive instruction with wisdom, justice, judgment and integrity.4 To give wisdom and refinement to the simple. To the young man knowledge and discretion.5 A wise man will hear and will increase learning. A man of understanding will procure wise counsel.6 This will help him understand a proverb and the interpretation as well as the words of the wise and their riddles.7 Respect for Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge truthunderstandingwisdom. Fools despise wisdom and instruction.8 My son, listen to the instruction of your father. Do not forsake the law of your mother.9 Discipline and education are a graceful ornament on your head, and a golden chain around your neck.10 My son, if sinners tempt you do not consent.11 If they say: »Come with us. Let us lie in wait to kill someone. Let us ambush the innocent without cause.12 »Let us swallow them alive and whole just as the grave does, and just as the dead go into the pit.13 »We will find precious material possessions and we fill our houses with plunder.14 »Throw in with us. Let us all have one purse.«15 My son, do not walk in the way with them. Withhold your food from their path!16 For their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird.18 They lie in wait for their own blood murder. They set an ambush for their own lives.19 So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for unjust dishonest gain. Greed takes away the life of its owner.20 Wisdom calls you! She raises her voice in the streets and marketplaces.21 She calls in the streets, in the opening of the gates: in the city she utters her words. She says:22 »How long, you simple stupidfoolish ones, will you love simplicity foolishnessstupidity? The scoffers delight in scoffing. Fools hate knowledge!23 »Listen when I reprove you. I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make my words known to you.24 »I called you! I stretched out my hand to you. You paid no attention to me.25 »You have ignored all my counsel. You accept no correction.26 »I also will laugh at your trouble. I will mock when your fear comes.27 »Trouble and distress will surround you like a whirlwind, like a great storm.28 »You will ask for my help, but I will not listen. You will search, but you will not find me.29 »You have no use for knowledge and you refuse to respect Jehovah.30 »You rejected my advice and paid no attention when I warned you.31 »Now you will get what you deserve for what you have done. Your own advice will make you sick.32 »Sin and self-satisfaction bring destruction and death to stupid fools.33 »Whoever listens to me will be secure and will be free from the fear of evil.«
