Os filisteus reúnem-se em Afeca

1 Ajuntaram os *1Sm 28.1-2filisteus todas as suas hostes em *1Sm 4.1;Js 12.18Afeca, e acamparam-se os israelitas junto à fonte, em *1Rs 18.19;21.1;2Rs 9.30Jezreel. 2 Os régulos dos filisteus estavam marchando com as suas centenas e milhares; e *1Sm 28.1-2Davi e seus homens marchavam na retaguarda, com Aquis. 3 Perguntaram os régulos dos filisteus: Que fazem aqui estes hebreus? Aquis respondeu-lhes: Este não é Davi, servo de Saul, rei de Israel, *1Sm 27.7que tem estado comigo alguns dias ou alguns anos, sem que lhe *1Sm 27.1-6;1Cr 12.19-20tenha achado culpa alguma desde o dia em que se refugiou para mim até o dia de hoje? 4 Porém os régulos dos filisteus se iraram contra ele e disseram a Aquis: Faze voltar este homem, para que torne *1Sm 27.6ao lugar em que o puseste e não desça conosco à batalha, *1Sm 14.21a fim de que não se faça nosso adversário no combate. Com que se reconciliaria com o seu senhor? Não seria, porventura, com as cabeças destes homens? 5 Acaso, este não é Davi, *1Sm 18.7;21.11de quem cantando diziam nas danças:

Saul matou os seus milhares,

e Davi, as suas dezenas de milhares?

Os príncipes dos filisteus desconfiam de Davi

6 Aquis chamou a Davi e disse-lhe: Pela vida de Jeová, tu tens sido reto, e é bom aos meus olhos o teu sair e entrar comigo no arraial, *1Sm 29.3;27.8-12pois não tenho achado mal algum em ti desde o dia em que vieste ter comigo até o dia de hoje; porém tu não agradas aos régulos. 7 Agora, volta e vai-te em paz, para não desagradares aos régulos dos filisteus. 8 Perguntou Davi a Aquis: *1Sm 27.10-12Mas que tenho eu feito? Que tens achado no teu servo desde o dia em que te apareci até o dia de hoje, para que eu não vá pelejar contra os inimigos do rei, meu senhor? 9 Respondeu Aquis a Davi: Sei que és bom aos meus olhos, como um *2Sm 14.17,20;19.27anjo de Deus; todavia, *1Sm 29.4os régulos dos filisteus disseram: Ele não há de subir conosco à batalha. 10 Agora, levanta-te de manhã cedo, tu *1Cr 12.19,22e os servos do teu senhor que vieram contigo, e, tendo-vos levantado de manhã cedo, parti logo que haja luz. 11 Levantou-se Davi de madrugada com seus homens, para partirem pela manhã e voltarem para a terra dos filisteus. Os filisteus, porém, subiram a Jezreel.

1 Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek; and the Israelites encamped by the spring which is in Jezreel. 2 The lords of the Philistines passed on by hundreds and by thousands; and David and his men passed on in the rear with Achish.

3 Then the princes of the Philistines said, "What about these Hebrews?"

Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, "Isn’t this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years? I have found no fault in him since he fell away until today."

4 But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; and the princes of the Philistines said to him, "Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Should it not be with the heads of these men? 5 Isn’t this David, of whom people sang to one another in dances, saying,

‘Saul has slain his thousands,

and David his ten thousands’?"

6 Then Achish called David and said to him, "As Yahweh lives, you have been upright, and your going out and your coming in with me in the army is good in my sight; for I have not found evil in you since the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords don’t favor you. 7 Therefore now return, and go in peace, that you not displease the lords of the Philistines."

8 David said to Achish, "But what have I done? What have you found in your servant so long as I have been before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?"

9 Achish answered David, "I know that you are good in my sight, as an angel of God. Notwithstanding, the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’ 10 Therefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you; and as soon as you are up early in the morning and have light, depart."

11 So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines; and the Philistines went up to Jezreel.
