Mateus 22

A parábola das bodas

1 De novo *vd.At 3.12começou Jesus a falar em parábolas, dizendo-lhes: 2 *Mt 22.2-14; cp.Lc 14.16-24O *vd.Mt 13.24reino dos céus é semelhante a um rei, que celebrou as bodas de seu filho. 3 *Mt 21.34Enviou os seus servos a chamar os convidados para a festa, e estes não quiseram vir. 4 *Mt 21.36Enviou ainda outros servos com este recado: Dizei aos convidados: Tenho já preparado o meu banquete; as minhas reses e os meus cevados estão mortos, e tudo está pronto; vinde às bodas. 5 Mas eles não fizeram caso e foram, um para o seu campo, outro para o seu negócio; 6 e os outros, agarrando os servos, os ultrajaram e mataram. 7 Irou-se o rei, e mandou as suas tropas exterminar aqueles assassinos e incendiar a sua cidade. 8 Então disse aos servos: As bodas estão preparadas, mas os convidados não eram dignos; 9 ide, pois, às *Ez 21.21;Ob 14encruzilhadas dos caminhos e chamai para as bodas a quantos encontrardes. 10 Indo aqueles servos pelos caminhos, reuniram todos os que encontraram, maus e bons; e a sala nupcial ficou cheia de convivas. 11 Mas entrando o rei para ver os convivas, notou ali um *cp.2Rs 10.22homem que não trajava veste nupcial, 12 e perguntou-lhe: *Mt 20.13;26.50Amigo, como entraste aqui sem veste nupcial? Ele, porém, emudeceu. 13 Então o rei disse aos servos: Atai-o de pés e mãos, e lançai-o nas trevas exteriores; *vd.Mt 8.12ali haverá o choro e o ranger de dentes. 14 Pois muitos são *Ap 17.14; cp.2Pe 1.10;Mt 24.22chamados, mas poucos escolhidos.

A questão do tributo

15 *Mt 22.15-22;Mc 12.13-17;Lc 20.20-26Então os fariseus se retiraram e consultaram como apanhariam a Jesus em alguma palavra. 16 Enviaram os seus discípulos, juntamente com os *Mc 3.6;12.13; cp.Mc 8.15herodianos, a perguntar: Mestre, sabemos que és verdadeiro e que ensinas o caminho de Deus segundo a verdade, e não se te dá de ninguém, porque não te deixas levar de respeitos humanos; 17 dize-nos, pois, qual é o teu parecer; é lícito ou não pagar *Mt 17.25o tributo a *Lc 2.1;3.1César? 18 Porém Jesus, tendo percebido a malícia deles, respondeu-lhes: Por que me experimentais, hipócritas? 19 Mostrai-me uma moeda de tributo. Trouxeram-lhe um denário. 20 Ele perguntou: De quem é esta efígie e inscrição? 21 Responderam: De César. Então lhes disse Jesus: *Mc 12.17;Lc 20.25; cp.Rm 13.7Dai, pois, a César o que é de César e a Deus, o que é de Deus. 22 Ao ouvirem isso, admiraram-se e, *Mc 12.12deixando-o, foram-se.

Os saduceus e a ressurreição

23 *Mt 22.23-33;Mc 12.18-27;Lc 20.27-40Naquele dia, vieram alguns *vd.Mt 3.7saduceus, *At 23.8afirmando não haver ressurreição, e fizeram-lhe esta pergunta: 24 Mestre, *Dt 25.5Moisés disse: Se alguém morrer sem deixar filhos, seu irmão casará com a viúva e dará sucessão ao falecido. 25 Ora, havia entre nós sete irmãos: o primeiro, depois de ter casado, morreu e, não havendo sucessão, deixou sua mulher a seu irmão; 26 do mesmo modo também o segundo e o terceiro, até o sétimo. 27 Depois de todos eles, morreu a mulher. 28 Na ressurreição, pois, a qual dos sete pertencerá a mulher? Porque todos foram casados com ela. 29 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Errais, *cp.Jo 20.9não sabendo as Escrituras, nem o poder de Deus. 30 Pois, na ressurreição, nem os homens *cp.Mt 24.38;Lc 17.27casam, nem as mulheres são dadas em casamento, porém são como os anjos no céu. 31 Quanto à ressurreição dos mortos, não tendes lido o que Deus vos disse: 32 *Êx 3.6Eu sou o Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Isaque e o Deus de Jacó? Ele não é Deus de mortos, mas de vivos. 33 Ouvindo isso, *vd.Mt 7.28o povo admirava-se da sua doutrina.

O grande mandamento

34 *Mt 22.34-40;Mc 12.28-31; cp.Lc 10.25-28Mas os fariseus, sabendo que ele fizera calar *vd.Mt 3.7os saduceus, reuniram-se; 35 e um deles, *Lc 7.30;10.25;11.45-46,52;14.3;Tt 3.13doutor da lei, para o experimentar, fez-lhe esta pergunta: 36 Mestre, qual é o grande mandamento da Lei? 37 Respondeu-lhe Jesus: *Dt 6.5Amarás ao Senhor, teu Deus, de todo o teu coração, de toda a tua alma e de todo o teu entendimento. 38 Este é o grande e primeiro mandamento. 39 O segundo semelhante a este é: *Mt 19.19;Lv 19.18; cp.Gl 5.14Amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo. 40 *vd.Mt 7.12Desses dois mandamentos dependem toda a lei e os profetas.

O Cristo, Filho de Davi

41 *Mt 22.41-46;Mc 12.35-37;Lc 20.41-44Como estivessem reunidos os fariseus, perguntou-lhes Jesus: 42 Que ideia fazeis do Cristo? De quem é filho? 43 Responderam-lhe: *vd.Mt 9.27De Davi. Replicou Jesus: Como é, então, que Davi, *Ap 1.10;4.2; cp.2Sm 23.2pelo Espírito, lhe chama Senhor, dizendo:

44 *Sl 110.1;At 2.34s.;Hb 1.13; cp.1Co 15.25;Hb 10.13;1Pe 3.22; cp.Mt 26.64;Mc 16.19Disse o Senhor ao meu Senhor:

Senta-te à minha mão direita,

até que eu ponha os teus inimigos debaixo dos teus pés?

45 Portanto, se Davi lhe chama Senhor, como é ele seu filho? 46 *Mc 12.34;Lc 14.6;20.40Ninguém podia responder-lhe palavra, nem mais ousou alguém, desde aquele dia, fazer-lhe perguntas.

1 Jesus answered and spoke to them again in parables, saying, 2 "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who made a wedding feast for his son, 3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding feast, but they would not come. 4 Again he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, "Behold, I have prepared my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding feast!"’ 5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise; 6 and the rest grabbed his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them. 7 When the king heard that, he was angry, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.

8 "Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren’t worthy. 9 Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the wedding feast.’ 10 Those servants went out into the highways and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. The wedding was filled with guests.

11 "But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who didn’t have on wedding clothing, 12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?’ He was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and throw him into the outer darkness. That is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.’ 14 For many are called, but few chosen."

15 Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk. 16 They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach; for you aren’t partial to anyone. 17 Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"

18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test me, you hypocrites? 19 Show me the tax money."

They brought to him a denarius.

20 He asked them, "Whose is this image and inscription?"

21 They said to him, "Caesar’s."

Then he said to them, "Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s."

22 When they heard it, they marveled, and left him and went away.

23 On that day Sadducees (those who say that there is no resurrection) came to him. They asked him, 24 saying, "Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife and raise up offspring*22:24 or, seed for his brother.’ 25 Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother. 26 In the same way, the second also, and the third, to the seventh. 27 After them all, the woman died. 28 In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her."

29 But Jesus answered them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like God’s angels in heaven. 31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven’t you read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’?✝22:32 Exodus 3:6 God is not the God of the dead, but of the living."

33 When the multitudes heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

34 But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together. 35 One of them, a lawyer, asked him a question, testing him. 36 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?"

37 Jesus said to him, "‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’✝22:37 Deuteronomy 6:5 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’✝22:39 Leviticus 19:18 40 The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."

41 Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, 42 saying, "What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?"

They said to him, "Of David."

43 He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying,

44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord,

sit on my right hand,

until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet’? ✝ 22:44 Psalms 110:1

45 "If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?"

46 No one was able to answer him a word, neither did any man dare ask him any more questions from that day forward.
