1 Αλίμονο σ’ εκείνους που ξαγρυπνούν στα κρεβάτια τους σχεδιάζοντας το κακό, για να το πραγματοποιήσουν το πρωί! Θα το κάνουν, γιατί έχουν τη δύναμη. 2 Όταν επιθυμούν χωράφια ή σπίτια τα αρπάζουν. Κατακλέβουν τους ανθρώπους και τις οικογένειές τους και παίρνουν τις περιουσίες τους. 3 Γι’ αυτό, ο Κύριος λέει: «Έτσι σχεδιάζω κι εγώ κακό ενάντια σε ανθρώπους σαν κι εσάς. Δε θα μπορέσετε να το αποφύγετε και δε θα περπατάτε πια με το κεφάλι ψηλά. Γιατί οι καιροί που έρχονται θα είναι δύσκολοι».

4 Εκείνη την ημέρα ο κόσμος θα σας αναφέρει σαν παράδειγμα καταστροφής και θα μιλάει για σας με το δικό σας θρήνο:

«Τελείως καταστραφήκαμε!

Απαλλοτρίωσε ο Θεός τη χώρα του λαού του,

κανείς δεν του τη δίνει πίσω·

στους κατακτητές μας μοίρασε τα χωράφια μας».*Το νόημα όλου του στ. 4 στο εβρ. είναι αβέβαιο.

5 Γι’ αυτό, όταν η χώρα ξαναμοιραστεί, εσείς δεν πρόκειται να πάρετε μερίδιο. Δε θα υπάρχει για σας τόπος στη συγκέντρωση του λαού του Κυρίου.

6 «Μη λες ανοησίες!» μου λένε. «Δεν επιτρέπεται σ’ έναν προφήτη να μιλάει έτσι. Τέτοια προσβολή είναι για μας αδιανόητη. 7 Μήπως είναι καταραμένοι οι απόγονοι του Ιακώβ;*οι απόγονοι του Ιακώβ. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 1:5. Έχασε τάχα την υπομονή του ο Κύριος μαζί μας; Τέτοια κάνει; Δεν έχει κανένα καλό λόγο για κείνους που ζουν δίκαια;»

8 Αλλά σ’ εσάς λέει ο Κύριος: «Από παλιά εναντιωνόσασταν στο λαό μου. Οι άνθρωποι γυρίζουν απ’ τον πόλεμο κι ενώ πιστεύουνε πως είναι ασφαλείς, εσείς αρπάζετε το πανωφόρι από την πλάτη τους. 9 Τις γυναίκες του λαού μου τις διώχνετε από τ’ αγαπημένα τους τα σπίτια· αρπάζετε απ’ τα παιδιά τους για πάντα τον κλήρο που τιμητικά εγώ τους έχω δώσει. 10 Εμπρός, σηκωθείτε και φύγετε στην εξορία, γιατί εδώ ησυχία δε θα βρείτε! Με τις ανίερες πράξεις σας έχετε προκαλέσει την καταστροφή. Και η καταστροφή θα ’ναι σκληρή!» 11 Αν ήταν κάποιος που να λέει λόγια του αέρα, ψέματα και απάτες, να προφητεύει πως θα έχετε κρασί και δυνατά ποτά σε αφθονία, αυτός θα ήταν ο προφήτης ο ανόητος, που στο λαό αυτόν ταιριάζει.

12 «Θα συναθροίσω εγώ όλους μαζί τους απογόνους του Ιακώβ κι όλο θα συνενώσω το υπόλοιπο του λαού του Ισραήλ. Θα τους βάλω μαζί καθώς τα πρόβατα που στο μαντρί γυρίζουν. Σαν το κοπάδι που γεμίζει το βοσκότοπό του, έτσι κι η χώρα σας θα ξαναγεμίσει πλήθος λαό. 13 Ένας δυνατός ήρωας θα τους οδηγεί και θ’ ανοίγει το δρόμο. Μ’ αυτόν θα περάσουν την πύλη και θα βγουν έξω. Ο Κύριος είναι αυτός ο ήρωας· ο βασιλιάς τους, αυτός θα προπορεύεται μπροστά τους».

1 Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand. 2 And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.*2.2 oppress: or, defraud 3 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks; neither shall ye go haughtily: for this time is evil.

4 In that day shall one take up a parable against you, and lament with a doleful lamentation, and say, We be utterly spoiled: he hath changed the portion of my people: how hath he removed it from me! turning away he hath divided our fields.*2.4 a doleful…: Heb. a lamentation of lamentations*2.4 turning…: or, instead of restoring 5 Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD.

7 O thou that art named the house of Jacob, is the spirit of the LORD straitened? are these his doings? do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly?*2.7 straitened: or, shortened?*2.7 uprightly: Heb. upright? 8 Even of late my people is risen up as an enemy: ye pull off the robe with the garment from them that pass by securely as men averse from war.*2.8 of late: Heb. yesterday*2.8 with the: Heb. over against a 9 The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever.*2.9 women: or, wives 10 Arise ye, and depart; for this is not your rest: because it is polluted, it shall destroy you, even with a sore destruction. 11 If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people.*2.11 walking…: or, walk with the wind, and lie falsely

12 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of thee; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as the flock in the midst of their fold: they shall make great noise by reason of the multitude of men. 13 The breaker is come up before them: they have broken up, and have passed through the gate, and are gone out by it: and their king shall pass before them, and the LORD on the head of them.
