1 The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.2 Thus says Yahweh: Look, waters rise up out of the north, and will become an overflowing stream, and will overflow the land and all that is in it, the city and those who dwell in it; and man will cry, and all the inhabitants of the land will wail.3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers don't look back to their sons for feebleness of hands;4 because of the day that comes to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remains: for Yahweh will destroy the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphtor.5 Baldness has come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is brought to nothing, the remnant of the Anakim: how long will you cut yourself?6 O you sword of Yahweh, how long will it be before you are quiet? Put yourself up into your scabbard; rest, and be still.7 How can you be quiet, seeing Yahweh has given you a charge? Against Ashkelon, and against the seashore, there he has appointed it.

1 Esta é a palavra do Senhor que veio ao profeta Jeremias acerca dos filisteus, antes do ataque do faraó a Gaza:2 Assim diz o Senhor: "Vejam como as águas estão subindo do norte; elas se tornam uma torrente transbordante. Inundarão esta terra e tudo o que nela existe; as cidades e os seus habitantes. O povo clamará, gritarão todos os habitantes desta terra,3 ao estrondo dos cascos dos seus cavalos galopando, ao barulho dos seus carros de guerra, e ao estampido de suas rodas. Os pais não se voltarão para ajudar seus filhos; pois suas mãos estão fracas.4 Pois chegou o dia de destruir todos os filisteus e de eliminar todos os sobreviventes que poderiam ajudar Tiro e Sidom.
