1 The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:2 to whom the word of Yahweh came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.3 It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, to the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.4 Now the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,5 Before I formed you in the belly I knew you, and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.6 Then I said, Ah, Sovereign Yahweh! Look, I don't know how to speak; for I am a child.7 But Yahweh said to me, Don't say, I am a child; for to whomever I will send you you will go, and whatever I will command you you will speak.8 Don't be afraid because of them; for I am with you to deliver you, says Yahweh.9 Then Yahweh put forth his hand, and touched my mouth; and Yahweh said to me, Look, I have put my words in your mouth:10 see, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.11 Moreover the word of Yahweh came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what do you see? And I said, I see a rod of an almond-tree.12 Then Yahweh said to me, You have well seen: for I watch over my word to perform it.13 And the word of Yahweh came to me the second time, saying, What do you see? And I said, I see a boiling cauldron; and the face of it is from the north.14 Then Yahweh said to me, Out of the north evil will break forth on all the inhabitants of the land.15 For, look, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, says Yahweh; and they will come, and they will set every one his throne at the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all its walls round about, and against all the cities of Judah.16 And I will utter my judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, and worshiped the works of their own hands.17 You therefore gird up your loins, and arise, and speak to them all that I command you: don't be dismayed at them, or else I will dismay you before them.18 For, look, I have made you this day a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.19 And they will fight against you; but they will not prevail against you: for I am with you, says Yahweh, to deliver you.

A todos a quem eu o enviar você irá e dirá tudo o que eu lhe ordenar.8 Não tenha medo deles, pois eu estou com você para protegê-lo", diz o Senhor.9 O Senhor estendeu a mão, tocou a minha boca e disse-me: "Agora ponho em sua boca as minhas palavras.10 Veja! Eu hoje dou a você autoridade sobre nações e reinos, para arrancar, despedaçar, arruinar e destruir; para edificar e para plantar".11 E a palavra do Senhor veio a mim: "O que você vê, Jeremias? " "Vejo o ramo de uma amendoeira", respondi.12 O Senhor me disse: "Você viu bem, pois estou vigiando para que a minha palavra se cumpra".13 A palavra do Senhor veio a mim pela segunda vez, dizendo: "O que você vê? " E eu respondi: "Vejo uma panela fervendo; ela está inclinada do norte para cá".14 O Senhor me disse: "Do norte se derramará a desgraça sobre todos os habitantes desta terra.15 Estou convocando todos os povos dos reinos do norte", diz o Senhor. "Cada um virá e colocará o seu trono diante das portas de Jerusalém, virão contra todas as muralhas que a cercam e contra todas as cidades de Judá.16 Pronunciarei a minha sentença contra o meu povo por todas as suas maldades; porque me abandonaram, queimaram incenso a outros deuses, e adoraram deuses que as suas mãos fizeram".17 "E você, prepare-se! Vá dizer-lhes tudo o que eu ordenar. Não fique aterrorizado por causa deles, senão eu o aterrorizarei diante deles.18 E hoje eu faço de você uma cidade fortificada, uma coluna de ferro e um muro de bronze, contra toda a terra: contra os reis de Judá, seus oficiais, seus sacerdotes e o povo da terra.19 Eles lutarão contra você, mas não o vencerão, pois eu estou com você e o protegerei", diz o Senhor.
