1 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each of them took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered strange fire before Yahweh, which he had not commanded them.2 And there came forth fire from before Yahweh, and devoured them, and they died before Yahweh.3 Then Moses said to Aaron, This is it that Yahweh spoke, saying, I will be sanctified in those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.4 And Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, Draw near, carry your{+} brothers from before the sanctuary out of the camp.5 So they drew near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp, as Moses had said.6 And Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and to Ithamar, his sons, Don't let the hair of your{+} heads go loose, neither rend your{+} clothes; that you{+} will not die, and that he is not angry with all the congregation: but let your{+} brothers, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which Yahweh has kindled.7 And you{+} will not go out from the door of the tent of meeting, or else you{+} will die; for the anointing oil of Yahweh is on you{+}. And they did according to the word of Moses.8 And Yahweh spoke to Aaron, saying,9 Drink no wine nor strong drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you{+} go into the tent of meeting, that you{+} will not die: it will be a statute forever throughout your{+} generations:10 and that you{+} may make a distinction between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean;11 and that you{+} may teach the sons of Israel all the statutes which Yahweh has spoken to them by Moses.12 And Moses spoke to Aaron, and to Eleazar and to Ithamar, his sons who were left, Take the meal-offering that remains of the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, and eat it without leaven beside the altar; for it is most holy;13 and you{+} will eat it in a holy place, because it is your portion, and your sons' portion, of the offerings of Yahweh made by fire: for so I am commanded.14 And the wave-breast and the heave-thigh you{+} will eat in a clean place, you, and your sons, and your daughters with you: for they are given as your portion, and your sons' portion, out of the sacrifices of the peace-offerings of the sons of Israel.15 The heave-thigh and the wave-breast they will bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat, to wave it for a wave-offering before Yahweh: and it will be yours, and your sons' with you, as a portion forever; as Yahweh has commanded.16 And Moses diligently sought the goat of the sin-offering, and noticed that it was burnt: and he was angry with Eleazar and with Ithamar, the sons of Aaron who were left, saying,17 Why haven't you{+} eaten the sin-offering in the place of the sanctuary, seeing it is most holy, and he has given it you{+} to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before Yahweh?18 Look, the blood of it wasn't brought into the sanctuary inside: you{+} should have certainly eaten it in the sanctuary, as I commanded.19 And Aaron spoke to Moses, Look, this day they have offered their sin-offering and their burnt-offering before Yahweh; and there have befallen me such things as these: and if I had eaten the sin-offering today, would it have been good in the eyes of Yahweh?20 And when Moses heard [that], it was good in his eyes.

1 Nadabe e Abiú, filhos de Arão, pegaram cada um o seu incensário, nos quais acenderam fogo, acrescentaram incenso, e trouxeram fogo profano perante o Senhor, sem que tivessem sido autorizados.2 Então saiu fogo da presença do Senhor e os consumiu. Morreram perante o Senhor.3 Moisés então disse a Arão: "Foi isto que o Senhor disse: ‘Aos que de mim se aproximam santo me mostrarei; à vista de todo o povo glorificado serei’ ". Arão, porém, ficou em silêncio.4 Então Moisés chamou Misael e Elzafã, filhos de Uziel, tio de Arão, e lhes disse: "Venham cá; tirem os seus primos da frente do santuário e levem-nos para fora do acampamento".5 Eles foram e os puxaram pelas túnicas, para fora do acampamento, conforme Moisés tinha ordenado.6 Então Moisés disse a Arão e a seus filhos Eleazar e Itamar: "Não andem descabelados, nem rasguem as roupas em sinal de luto, senão vocês morrerão e a ira do Senhor cairá sobre toda a comunidade. Mas os seus parentes, e toda a nação de Israel, poderão chorar por aqueles que o Senhor destruiu pelo fogo.7 Não saiam da entrada da Tenda do Encontro, senão vocês morrerão, porquanto o óleo da unção do Senhor está sobre vocês". E eles fizeram conforme Moisés tinha ordenado.8 Depois o Senhor disse a Arão:9 "Você e seus filhos não devem beber vinho nem outra bebida fermentada antes de entrar na Tenda do Encontro, senão vocês morrerão. É um decreto perpétuo para as suas gerações.10 Vocês têm que fazer separação entre o santo e o profano, entre o puro e o impuro,11 e ensinar aos israelitas todos os decretos que o Senhor lhes deu por meio de Moisés".12 Então Moisés disse a Arão e aos seus filhos que ficaram vivos, Eleazar e Itamar: "Peguem a oferta de cereal que sobrou das ofertas dedicadas ao Senhor, preparadas no fogo, e comam-na sem fermento junto ao altar, pois é santíssima.13 Comam-na em lugar sagrado, porquanto é a porção que lhes cabe por decreto, a você e a seus filhos, das ofertas dedicadas ao Senhor, preparadas no fogo; pois assim me foi ordenado.14 O peito ritualmente movido e a coxa ofertada, você, seus filhos e suas filhas poderão comer num lugar cerimonialmente puro; foi dado a você e a seus filhos como porção das ofertas de comunhão dos israelitas.15 A coxa ofertada e o peito ritualmente movido devem ser trazidos junto com as porções de gordura das ofertas preparadas no fogo, para serem movidos perante o Senhor como gesto ritual de apresentação. Esta será a porção por decreto perpétuo para você e seus descendentes, conforme o Senhor tinha ordenado".16 Quando Moisés procurou por toda parte o bode da oferta pelo pecado e soube que já fora queimado, irou-se contra Eleazar e Itamar, os filhos de Arão que ficaram vivos, e perguntou:17 "Por que vocês não comeram a carne da oferta pelo pecado no Lugar Santo? É santíssima; foi-lhes dada para retirar a culpa da comunidade e fazer propiciação por ela perante o Senhor.18 Como o sangue do animal não foi levado para dentro do Lugar Santo, vocês deviam tê-lo comido no Lugar Santo, conforme ordenei".19 Arão respondeu a Moisés: "Hoje eles ofereceram o seu sacrifício pelo pecado e o seu holocausto perante o Senhor; mesmo assim coisas como essas aconteceram comigo. Será que teria agradado ao Senhor se eu tivesse comido a oferta pelo pecado hoje? "20 Quando Moisés ouviu isso, ficou satisfeito.
