1 Mais vale um pobre que caminha na integridade que um insensato com lábios mentirosos.2 Sem a ciência, nem mesmo o zelo é bom: quem precipita seus passos, desvia-se.3 A loucura de um homem o leva a um mau caminho; é contra o Senhor que seu coração se irrita.4 A riqueza aumenta o número de amigos, o pobre é abandonado pelo seu {único} companheiro.5 O falso testemunho não fica sem castigo; o que profere mentira não escapará.6 O homem generoso possui muitos lisonjeiros: todos se tornam amigos de quem dá.7 Todos os irmãos do pobre o odeiam, quanto mais seus amigos não hão de se afastar dele? Está em busca de palavras, mas não terá nada.8 Quem adquire bom senso ama sua alma; o que observa a prudência encontra a felicidade.9 O falso testemunho não fica impune; o que profere mentira perecerá.10 Não convém ao insensato viver entre delícias, muito menos ainda a um escravo dominar os chefes.11 Um homem sábio sabe conter a sua cólera, e tem por honra passar por cima de uma ofensa.12 Cólera de rei, rugido de leão; favor de rei, orvalho sobre a erva.13 Um filho insensato é a desgraça de seu pai; a mulher intrigante é uma goteira inesgotável.14 Casas e bens são a herança dos pais, mas uma mulher sensata é um dom do Senhor.15 A preguiça cai no torpor: a alma indolente terá fome.16 O que observa o preceito guarda sua vida; quem descuida de seu proceder morrerá.17 Quem se apieda do pobre empresta ao Senhor, que lhe restituirá o benefício.18 Corrige teu filho enquanto há esperança, mas não te enfureças até fazê-lo perecer.19 O homem iracundo sofrerá um castigo; se o libertares, aumentarás a sua pena.20 Ouve os conselhos, aceita a instrução: tu serás sábio para o futuro.21 Há muitos planos no coração do homem, mas é a vontade do Senhor que se realiza.22 O encanto de um homem é a sua caridade: mais vale o pobre que o mentiroso.23 O temor do Senhor conduz à vida; {o que o possui} é saciado: passará a noite sem a visita da desgraça.24 O preguiçoso põe sua mão no prato e nem sequer a leva à boca.25 Castiga o zombador e o simples tornar-se-á sábio; repreende o homem sensato e ele compreenderá por quê.26 Quem maltrata seu pai, quem expulsa sua mãe é um filho infame do qual todos se envergonham.27 Cessa, meu filho, de ouvir as advertências e isto servirá para te afastares da sabedoria!28 O testemunho falso zomba da justiça, a boca dos ímpios devora a iniqüidade.29 As varas estão preparadas para os mofadores e os golpes para o dorso dos insensatos.

1 Better [is] the poor that walks in his integrity than [he that is] perverse in his lips and is a fool.2 [That] the soul [be] without wisdom [is] not good, and he that hastens with [his] feet sins.3 The foolishness of man perverts his way, and his heart is wroth against the LORD.4 Wealth makes many friends, but the poor is separated from his neighbour.5 A false witness shall not go unpunished, and [he that] speaks lies shall not escape.6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince, but every man [is] a friend to him that gives.7 All the brethren of the poor hate him; how much more shall his friends separate themselves from him? He shall seek their friendship and not find it.8 He that gets wisdom loves his own soul; he keeps intelligence that he might find that which is good.9 The false witness shall not go unpunished, and [he that] speaks lies shall perish.10 Delight is not suitable for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.11 The discretion of a man defers his anger, and [it is] his glory to pass over a transgression.12 The king's wrath [is] as the roaring of a lion, but his favour [is] as dew upon the grass.13 A foolish son [is] a pain unto his father, and the contentions of a wife [are] a continual dripping.14 House and riches [are] the inheritance from fathers, but the prudent wife [is] from the LORD.15 Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and the negligent soul shall suffer hunger.16 He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul, [but] he that despises his ways shall die.17 He that gives unto the poor lends unto the LORD, and he will give him his reward.18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, but do not stir up thy soul to destroy him.19 A man of great wrath shall suffer the consequences, for [even] if thou deliver [him], yet thou must do it again.20 Hear counsel, and receive chastening that thou may be wise in thy old age.21 [There are] many thoughts in the heart of man; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD shall stand.22 Contentment is unto men to show mercy, but [it is] better [to do it] unto the poor than to the liar.23 The fear of the LORD [is] unto life, and [he that has it] shall live satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.24 The slothful [man] hides his hand in [his] bosom and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will become prudent, and reproving one that has understanding, he will understand knowledge.26 He that steals from his father [and] chases away [his] mother [is] a son that causes shame and brings reproach.27 Cease, my son, to hear the teaching [that] induces one to deviate from the reasons of wisdom.28 A witness of Belial shall scorn judgment, and the mouth of the wicked shall cover iniquity.29 Judgments are prepared for scorners and stripes for the back of fools.:
