1 E vieram a mim alguns homens dos anciãos de Israel, e se assentaram diante de mim.2 Então veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:3 Filho do homem, estes homens levantaram os seus ídolos nos seus corações, e o tropeço da sua maldade puseram diante da sua face; devo eu de alguma maneira ser interrogado por eles?4 Portanto fala com eles, e dize-lhes: Assim diz o Senhor Deus: Qualquer homem da casa de Israel, que levantar os seus ídolos no seu coração, e puser o tropeço da sua maldade diante da sua face, e vier ao profeta, eu, o Senhor, vindo ele, lhe responderei conforme a multidão dos seus ídolos;5 Para que eu possa apanhar a casa de Israel no seu coração, porquanto todos se apartaram de mim para seguirem os seus ídolos.6 Portanto dize à casa de Israel: Assim diz o Senhor Deus: Convertei-vos, e tornai-vos dos vossos ídolos; e desviai os vossos rostos de todas as vossas abominações;7 Porque qualquer homem da casa de Israel, e dos estrangeiros que peregrinam em Israel, que se alienar de mim, e levantar os seus ídolos no seu coração, e puser o tropeço da sua maldade diante do seu rosto, e vier ao profeta, para me consultar por meio dele, eu, o Senhor, lhe responderei por mim mesmo.8 E porei o meu rosto contra o tal homem, e o assolarei para que sirva de sinal e provérbio, e arrancá-lo-ei do meio do meu povo; e sabereis que eu sou o Senhor.9 E se o profeta for enganado, e falar alguma coisa, eu, o Senhor, terei enganado esse profeta; e estenderei a minha mão contra ele, e destruí-lo-ei do meio do meu povo Israel.10 E levarão sobre si o castigo da sua iniquidade; o castigo do profeta será como o castigo de quem o consultar.11 Para que a casa de Israel não se desvie mais de mim, nem mais se contamine com todas as suas transgressões; então eles serão o meu povo, e eu lhes serei o seu Deus, diz o Senhor Deus.12 Veio ainda a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:13 Filho do homem, quando uma terra pecar contra mim, se rebelando gravemente, então estenderei a minha mão contra ela, e lhe quebrarei o sustento do pão, e enviarei contra ela fome, e cortarei dela homens e animais.14 Ainda que estivessem no meio dela estes três homens, Noé, Daniel e Jó, eles pela sua justiça livrariam apenas as suas almas, diz o Senhor Deus.15 Se eu fizer passar pela terra as feras selvagens, e elas a desfilharem de modo que fique desolada, e ninguém possa passar por ela por causa das feras;16 E estes três homens estivessem no meio dela, vivo eu, diz o Senhor Deus, que nem a filhos nem a filhas livrariam; eles só ficariam livres, e a terra seria assolada.17 Ou, se eu trouxer a espada sobre aquela terra, e disser: Espada, passa pela terra; e eu cortar dela homens e animais;18 Ainda que aqueles três homens estivessem nela, vivo eu, diz o Senhor Deus, que nem filhos nem filhas livrariam, mas somente eles ficariam livres.19 Ou, se eu enviar a peste sobre aquela terra, e derramar o meu furor sobre ela com sangue, para cortar dela homens e animais,20 Ainda que Noé, Daniel e Jó estivessem no meio dela, vivo eu, diz o Senhor Deus, que nem um filho nem uma filha eles livrariam, mas somente eles livrariam as suas próprias almas pela sua justiça.21 Porque assim diz o Senhor Deus: Quanto mais, se eu enviar os meus quatro maus juízos, a espada, a fome, as feras, e a peste, contra Jerusalém, para cortar dela homens e feras?22 Mas eis que alguns fugitivos restarão nela, que serão levados para fora, assim filhos e filhas; eis que eles virão a vós, e vereis o seu caminho e os seus feitos; e ficareis consolados do mal que eu trouxe sobre Jerusalém, e de tudo o que trouxe sobre ela.23 E sereis consolados, quando virdes o seu caminho e os seus feitos; e sabereis que não fiz sem razão tudo quanto nela tenho feito, diz o Senhor Deus.

1 Then came there unto me certain men of the elders of Israel, and sat down before me.2 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and the stumbling–block of their iniquity have they placed before their faces: shall I in any wise let myself be inquired of by them?4 Therefore speak with them and say unto them, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Whatever man it be of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and layeth the stumbling–block of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet: I the Lord will answer him, although he cometh with the multitude of his idols;5 In order that I may grasp the house of Israel by their heart, those who are separated from me through all their idols.6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Return, and cause your heart to turn away from your idols: and from all your abominations turn away your faces.7 For whatever man it be of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, that separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and layeth the stumbling–block of his iniquity before his face, and then cometh to the prophet to inquire through him of me: I the Lord will answer him through my word;8 And I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment for a sign and for proverbs, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.9 And when the prophet suffereth himself to be deceived, and he speaketh a word: I the Lord have suffered that prophet to be deceived: and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.10 And they shall bear their guilt: as the guilt of the inquirer is, so shall the guilt of the prophet be;11 In order that the house of Israel may go no more astray by not following me, and not pollute themselves any more with all their transgressions; but that they may become unto me a people, and I may be unto them a God, saith the Lord Eternal.12 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,13 Son of man, if a land should sin against me by trespassing grievously, and I stretch out my hand against it, and break unto it the staff of bread, and send out famine against it, and cut off from it man and beast;14 And if there be these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, in the midst of it: these through their righteousness should save but their own soul; saith the Lord Eternal.15 If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they depopulate it, and it becometh desolate, without any one to pass through because of the beasts:16 These three men if they were in it, as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, should not save either sons or daughters: they only should be saved, but the land should be made desolate.17 Or, if I should bring a sword over that land, and say, The sword shall pass through the land, and I cut off from it man and beast;18 And if these three men should be in it: as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, they should not save either sons or daughters, but they alone should be saved.19 Or, if I should send out the pestilence against that land, and pour out my fury over it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast;20 And if Noah, Daniel, and Job, should be in the midst of it: as I live, saith the Lord Eternal, they should not save either son or daughter; they through their righteousness should save their own soul.21 For thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Although I send my four dreadful means of punishment over Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the wild beasts, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast:22 Still, behold, there are left therein some that escape who shall be carried forth, both sons and daughters; behold, they are coming forth unto you, and ye will see their way and their doings; and then will ye be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, yea, concerning all that I have brought upon it;23 And they will comfort you, when ye see their way and their doings; and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have executed in it, saith the Lord Eternal.
