1 E veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:2 Filho do homem, dirige o teu rosto contra Jerusalém, e derrama as tuas palavras sobre os santuários, e profetiza sobre a terra de Israel.3 E dize à terra de Israel: Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que sou contra ti, e tirarei a minha espada da bainha, e exterminarei do meio de ti o justo e o ímpio.4 E, por isso que hei de exterminar do meio de ti o justo e o ímpio, a minha espada sairá da sua bainha contra toda a carne, desde o sul até o norte.5 E saberá toda a carne que eu, o Senhor, tirei a minha espada da bainha; nunca mais voltará a ela.6 Tu, porém, ó filho do homem, suspira; suspira aos olhos deles, com quebrantamento dos teus lombos e com amargura.7 E será que, quando eles te disserem: Por que suspiras tu? Dirás: Por causa das novas, porque vêm; e todo o coração desmaiará, e todas as mãos se enfraquecerão, e todo o espírito se angustiará, e todos os joelhos se desfarão em águas; eis que vêm, e se cumprirão, diz o Senhor Deus.8 E veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:9 Filho do homem, profetiza, e dize: Assim diz o Senhor: dize: A espada, a espada está afiada e polida.10 Para grande matança está afiada, para reluzir está polida. Alegrar-nos-emos pois? A vara de meu filho é que despreza todo o madeiro.11 E foi dada a polir, para ser manejada; esta espada está afiada, e está polida, para ser posta na mão do matador.12 Grita e geme, ó filho do homem, porque ela será contra o meu povo, contra todos os príncipes de Israel. Estes, juntamente com o meu povo, estão espantados com a espada; bate, pois, na tua coxa.13 Pois se faz uma prova; e que seria se a espada desprezasse mesmo a vara? Ela não seria mais, diz o Senhor Deus.14 Tu, pois, ó filho do homem, profetiza e bate com as mãos uma na outra; e dobre-se a espada até a terceira vez, a espada dos mortos; ela é a espada para a grande matança, que os traspassará até o seu interior.15 Para que desmaie o coração, e se multipliquem as destruições, contra todas as suas portas, pus a ponta da espada, a que foi feita para reluzir, e está preparada para a matança!16 Ó espada, une-te, vira-te para a direita; prepara-te, vira-te para a esquerda, para onde quer que o teu rosto se dirigir.17 E também eu baterei com as minhas mãos uma na outra, e farei descansar a minha indignação; eu, o Senhor, o disse.18 E veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo:19 Tu, pois, ó filho do homem, propõe dois caminhos, por onde venha a espada do rei de Babilônia. Ambos procederão de uma mesma terra, e escolhe um lugar; escolhe-o no cimo do caminho da cidade.20 Um caminho proporás, por onde virá a espada contra Rabá dos filhos de Amom, e contra Judá, em Jerusalém, a fortificada.21 Porque o rei de Babilônia parará na encruzilhada, no cimo dos dois caminhos, para fazer adivinhações; aguçará as suas flechas, consultará as imagens, atentará para o fígado.22 À sua direita estará a adivinhação sobre Jerusalém, para ordenar aos capitães, para abrirem a boca, ordenando a matança, para levantarem a voz com júbilo, para porem os aríetes contra as portas, para levantarem trincheiras, para edificarem baluartes.23 Isto será como adivinhação vã, aos olhos daqueles que lhes fizeram juramentos; mas ele se lembrará da iniquidade, para que sejam apanhados.24 Portanto assim diz o Senhor Deus: Visto que me fazeis lembrar da vossa iniquidade, descobrindo-se as vossas transgressões, aparecendo os vossos pecados em todos os vossos atos; visto que viestes em memória, sereis apanhados com a mão.25 E tu, ó profano e ímpio príncipe de Israel, cujo dia virá no tempo da extrema iniquidade,26 Assim diz o Senhor Deus: Tira o diadema, e remove a coroa; esta não será a mesma; exalta ao humilde, e humilha ao soberbo.27 Ao revés, ao revés, ao revés porei aquela coroa, e ela não mais será, até que venha aquele a quem pertence de direito; a ele a darei.28 E tu, ó filho do homem, profetiza, e dize: Assim diz o Senhor Deus acerca dos filhos de Amom, e acerca do seu opróbrio; dize pois: A espada, a espada está desembainhada, polida para a matança, para consumir, por estar reluzente;29 Entretanto te profetizam vaidade, te adivinham mentira, para te porem no pescoço dos ímpios, daqueles que estão mortos, cujo dia veio no tempo da iniquidade final.30 Torne a tua espada à sua bainha. No lugar em que foste criado, na terra do teu nascimento, eu te julgarei.31 E derramarei sobre ti a minha indignação, assoprarei contra ti o fogo do meu furor, entregar-te-ei nas mãos dos homens brutais, inventores de destruição.32 Ao fogo servirás para ser consumido; o teu sangue estará no meio da terra; já não serás mais lembrado, porque eu, o Senhor, o disse.

1 (21:6) And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,2 (21:7) Son of man, direct thy face toward Jerusalem, and preach toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel,3 (21:8) And say to the land of Israel, Thus hath said the Lord, Behold, I will be against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of its sheath; and I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked.4 (21:9) But because I shall have cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked: therefore shall my sword go forth out of its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north;5 (21:10) That all flesh may know that I the Lord have drawn forth my sword out of its sheath; it shall not return any more.6 (21:11) But thou, son of man, do thou sigh: as though with broken loins, and with bitterness of grief shalt thou sigh before their eyes.7 (21:12) And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt say, For the report, because it cometh, when every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be made feeble, and every spirit shall become faint, and all knees shall be changed into water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord Eternal.8 (21:13) And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,9 (21:14) Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus hath said the Lord, Say, The sword, the sword is sharpened, and also polished;10 (21:15) In order to make a thorough slaughter is it sharpened; in order that it may glitter is it polished: how can we now rejoice, when the rod which reacheth my son excelleth in hardness every tree?11 (21:16) And he hath given it to be polished, to make it fit to grasp it in the hand: it is the sword which is sharpened, and it is polished, to place it into the hand of the slayer.12 (21:17) Cry aloud and wail, O son of man; for it cometh against my people, it cometh against all the princes of Israel; brought together for the sword are they with my people: therefore strike thy hand upon thy thigh.13 (21:18) For a purification taketh place: and what if the irresistible rod will also come? my son would not be able to exist, saith the Lord Eternal.14 (21:19) But thou, son of man, prophesy, and strike thy hands together, and let "The sword" be repeated the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great that are slain, which lieth in wait for them everywhere.15 (21:20) In order to make timid the heart, and to multiply the stumbling–blocks, do I bring the howling of the sword against all their gates: ah! it is made bright, it is made thin–edged for the slaughter.16 (21:21) Gather up thy strength, go to the right hand, direct thyself, go to the left, whithersoever thy edge is turned.17 (21:22) And I also,––I will strike my hands together, and I will cause my fury to be assuaged: I the Lord have spoken it.18 (21:23) And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,19 (21:24) But thou, O son of man, appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come; out of one land shall both of them come forth: and select a place; at the head of the way to a city do thou select it.20 (21:25) A way shalt thou appoint, that the sword may come against Rabbah of the children of ‘Ammon, and the other against Judah dwelling in Jerusalem the fortified.21 (21:26) For the king of Babylon hath halted at the parting of the way, at the commencement of the two ways, to use divination: he shaketh the arrows, he consulteth with images, he looketh at the liver.22 (21:27) At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to erect battering–rams, to open the mouth with the cry for murder, to lift up the voice with shouting, to place battering–rams against the gates, to cast up a mound, and to build works of attack.23 (21:28) And it will appear unto them as a false divination in their eyes, to those that had sworn oaths; but he will bring to remembrance their iniquity, that they may be caught.24 (21:29) Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Because ye have brought your iniquity to remembrance, as your transgressions are discovered, so that your sins do appear in all your doings: because ye are thus brought to remembrance, ye shall be caught by his hand.25 (21:30) And thou, death–deserving wicked one, prince of Israel, whose day is come, at the time of the iniquity of the end,––26 (21:31) Thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Remove the mitre, and take off the crown: this shall not be always so; exalt him that is low, and make him low that is high.27 (21:32) Overthrown, overthrown, overthrown will I render it: also this shall not belong to any one, until he come whose right it is, and I will give it him.28 (21:33) And thou, son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus hath said the Lord Eternal concerning the children of ‘Ammon, and concerning their reproach: even say thou, The sword, the sword is drawn; for the slaughter is it polished, to destroy, that it may continue to glitter;29 (21:34) While they foresee unto thee falsehood, while they divine unto thee lies, to lay thee by the necks of the slain wicked, whose day is come, at the time of the iniquity of the end.30 (21:35) Put back the sword into its sheath! in the place where thou wast created, in the land of thy origin, will I judge thee.31 (21:36) And I will pour out over thee my indignation, with the fire of my wrath will I blow against thee, and I will give thee up into the hand of brutish men, skilful in destroying.32 (21:37) To the fire shalt thou be given to be devoured; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land: thou shalt not be remembered any more; for I the Lord have spoken it.
