1 And the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (for he was the firstborn; but, inasmuch as he defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel; but the genealogy is not registered according to the birthright, 2 for Judah prevailed among his brethren, and of him was the prince, but the birthright was Joseph’s), 3 — the sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Enoch and Phallu, Hezron and Carmi. 4 The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son, 5 Micah his son, Reaiah his son, Baal his son, 6 Beerah his son, whom Tilgath-Pilneser king of Assyria carried away captive: he was prince of the Reubenites. 7 And his brethren by their families, in the genealogical register of their generations, were: the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah, 8 and Bela the son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel, who dwelt in Aroer, as far as Nebo and Baal-meon; 9 and eastward he dwelt as far as the entrance to the wilderness from the river Euphrates; for their cattle were multiplied in the land of Gilead. 10 And in the days of Saul they made war with the Hagarites, who fell by their hand; and they dwelt in their tents throughout the east side of Gilead. 11 And the children of Gad dwelt over against them, in the land of Bashan, as far as Salcah: 12 Joel was the chief and Shapham the next, and Jaanai, and Shaphat in Bashan. 13 And their brethren according to their fathers' houses were Michael, and Meshullam, and Sheba, and Jorai, and Jaachan, and Zia, and Eber, seven. 14 — These were the sons of Abihail, the son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz: 15 Ahi the son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, was chief of their fathers' house. 16 And they dwelt in Gilead in Bashan, and in its towns, and in all the pasture-grounds of Sharon, as far as their limits. 17 All these were registered by genealogy in the days of Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam king of Israel.

18 The children of Reuben and the Gadites and half the tribe of Manasseh, of valiant men, men who carried shield and sword, drawing the bow and skilful in war, were forty-four thousand seven hundred and sixty, able to go forth to war. 19 And they made war with the Hagarites, with Jetur, and Naphish, and Nodab; 20 and they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them; for they cried to God*GodHebrew: Elohim in the battle, and he was intreated of them, because they put their trust in him. 21 And they took away their cattle: their camels fifty thousand, and two hundred and fifty thousand sheep, and two thousand asses, and a hundred thousand human souls. 22 For there fell down many slain, for the war was of God*GodHebrew: Elohim And they dwelt in their stead until the captivity. 23 And the children of the half tribe of Manasseh dwelt in the land, from Bashan as far as Baal-Hermon and Senir, and mount Hermon; they were many. 24 And these were the heads of their fathers' houses: Epher, and Jishi, and Eliel, and Azriel, and Jeremiah, and Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valour, famous men, heads of their fathers' houses. 25 And they transgressed against the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of their fathers, and went a whoring after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God*GodHebrew: Elohim had destroyed before them. 26 And the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria, and the spirit of Tilgath-Pilneser king of Assyria, and he carried them away, the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, and Habor, and Hara, and to the river Gozan, — unto this day.

Totuși Iosif n-a fost scris în spițele de neam ca întâi născut. 2 Iuda*Gen. 49:8,10.Ps. 60:7;108:8. a fost în adevăr puternic*Mica 5:2.Mat. 2:6. printre frații săi și din el a ieșit un domnitor, dar dreptul de întâi născut este al lui Iosif. 3 Fiii lui Ruben*Gen. 46:9.Exod 6:14.Num. 26:5., întâiul născut al lui Israel: Enoh, Palu, Hețron și Carmi. 4 Fiii lui Ioel: Șemaia, fiul său; Gog, fiul său; Șimei, fiul său; 5 Mica, fiul său; Reaia, fiul său; Baal, fiul său; 6 Beera, fiul său, pe care l-a luat rob Tilgat-Pilneser, împăratul Asiriei; el era domnul rubeniților. 7 Frații lui Beera, după familiile lor, așa cum*Vers. 17. sunt înscriși în spițele neamului după neamurile lor: cel dintâi, Ieiel; Zaharia; 8 Bela, fiul lui Azaz, fiul lui Șema, fiul lui Ioel. Bela locuia la Aroer*Ios. 13:15,16. și până la Nebo și la Baal-Meon; 9 la răsărit, locuia până la intrarea pustiei, de la râul Eufrat, căci turmele lor erau în mare număr în țara*Ios. 22:9. Galaadului. 10 Pe vremea lui Saul, au făcut război cu hagareniții*Gen. 25:12., care au căzut în mâinile lor și au locuit în corturile lor, pe toată partea de răsărit a Galaadului.

11 Fiii lui Gad locuiau în fața lor, în țara Basanului*Ios. 13:11,24., până la Salca. 12 Ioel, cel dintâi, Șafam, al doilea, Iaenai și Șafat, în Basan. 13 Frații lor, după casele părinților lor: Micael, Meșulam, Șeba, Iorai, Iaecan, Zia și Eber, șapte. 14 Iată fiii lui Abihail, fiul lui Huri, fiul lui Iaroah, fiul lui Galaad, fiul lui Micael, fiul lui Ieșișai, fiul lui Iahdo, fiul lui Buz; 15 Ahi, fiul lui Abdiel, fiul lui Guni, era căpetenia caselor părinților lor. 16 Ei locuiau în Galaad, în Basan, și în cetățile lor și în toate împrejurimile Saronului*Cap. 27:29., până la marginile lor. 17 Toți au fost scriși în spițele de neamuri pe vremea lui Iotam*2 Împ. 15:5,32., împăratul lui Iuda, și pe vremea lui Ieroboam*2 Împ. 14:16,28., împăratul lui Israel. 18 Fiii lui Ruben, gadiții și jumătate din seminția lui Manase aveau oameni viteji, care purtau scut și sabie, trăgeau cu arcul și erau deprinși cu războiul, în număr de patruzeci și patru de mii șapte sute șaizeci în stare să meargă la oaste. 19 Au făcut război cu hagareniții, cu Ietur*Gen. 25:15. Cap. 1:31., cu Nafiș și cu Nodab. 20 Au*Vers. 22. primit ajutor împotriva lor și hagareniții și toți cei ce erau cu ei au fost dați în mâinile lor. Căci, în timpul luptei, strigaseră către Dumnezeu, care i-a ascultat, pentru că se încrezuseră*Ps. 22:4,5. în El. 21 Și le-au luat turmele, cincizeci de mii de cămile, două sute cincizeci de mii de oi, două mii de măgari și o sută de mii de inși, 22 căci au fost mulți morți, pentru că lupta venea de la Dumnezeu. Și s-au așezat în locul lor până în vremea când au fost luați în robie*2 Împ. 15:29;17:6..

23 Fiii jumătății seminției lui Manase locuiau în țară, de la Basan până la Baal-Hermon și Senir, și pe muntele Hermon; erau mulți la număr. 24 Iată căpeteniile caselor părinților lor: Efer, Ișei, Eliel, Azriel, Ieremia, Hodavia și Iahdiel, oameni viteji, oameni vestiți, căpeteniile caselor părinților lor. 25 Dar au păcătuit împotriva Dumnezeului părinților lor și au curvit*2 Împ. 17:7. după dumnezeii popoarelor țării pe care Dumnezeu le nimicise dinaintea lor. 26 Dumnezeul lui Israel a ațâțat duhul lui Pul*2 Împ. 15:19., împăratul Asiriei, și duhul lui*2 Împ. 15:29. Tilgat-Pilneser, împăratul Asiriei, și Tilgat-Pilneser a luat robi pe rubeniți, gadiți și jumătate din seminția lui Manase și i-a dus la Halah*2 Împ. 17:6;18:11., la Habor, la Hara și la râul Gozan, unde au rămas până în ziua de azi.
