1 Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land; for there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God*GodHebrew: Elohim in the land. 2 Swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, — they break out; and blood toucheth blood. 3 For this shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowl of the heavens, yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. 4 Yet let no man strive, and let no man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest. 5 And thou shalt stumble by day; and the prophet also shall stumble with thee by night: and I will destroy thy mother.

6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; for thou hast rejected knowledge, and I will reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God*GodHebrew: Elohim I also will forget thy children. 7 As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame. 8 They eat the sin of my people, and their soul longeth for their iniquity. 9 And it shall be as the people so the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and recompense to them their doings; 10 and they shall eat, and not have enough; they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: for they have left off taking heed to Jehovah. 11 Fornication, and wine, and new wine take away the heart.

12 My people ask counsel of their stock, and their staff declareth unto them; for the spirit of whoredoms causeth them to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God*GodHebrew: Elohim13 they sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because the shade thereof is good; therefore your daughters play the harlot and your daughters-in-law commit adultery. 14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your daughters-in-law for their committing adultery; for they themselves go aside with harlots, and they sacrifice with prostitutes: and the people that doth not understand shall come to ruin. 15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, let not Judah trespass; and come ye not unto Gilgal, neither go up to Beth-aven, nor swear As Jehovah liveth! 16 For Israel is refractory as an untractable heifer; now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a wide pasture. 17 — Ephraim is joined to idols: leave him alone. 18 Their drink is sour; they give themselves up to whoredom; her great men passionately love their shame. 19 The wind hath wrapped her up in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.

Cap. 12:2.Mica 6:2. cu locuitorii țării, pentru că nu este adevăr, nu este îndurare, nu este cunoștință*Ier. 4:22;5:4. de Dumnezeu în țară: 2 „Fiecare jură strâmb și minte, ucide, fură și preacurvește, năpăstuiește și face omoruri după omoruri, 3 de aceea, țara se va jeli*Ier. 4:28;12:4.Amos 5:16;8:8., toți cei ce o locuiesc vor tânji*Ţef. 1:3. împreună cu fiarele câmpului și păsările cerului; chiar și peștii mării vor pieri. 4 Dar nimeni să nu certe pe altul, nimeni să nu mustre pe altul, căci poporul tău este ca cei ce se ceartă*Deut. 17:12. cu preoții. 5 Te vei poticni*Ier. 6:4,5;15:8. ziua, prorocul se va poticni și el împreună cu tine noaptea și pe mama ta o voi nimici. 6 Poporul Meu*Is. 5:13. piere din lipsă de cunoștință. Fiindcă ai lepădat cunoștința, și Eu te voi lepăda și nu-Mi vei mai fi preot. Fiindcă ai uitat Legea Dumnezeului tău, voi uita și Eu pe copiii tăi! 7 Cu cât*Cap. 13:6. s-au înmulțit, cu atât au păcătuit împotriva Mea. De aceea, le voi preface slava*1 Sam. 2:30.Mal. 2:9.Filip. 3:19. în ocară. 8 Ei se hrănesc din jertfele pentru păcatele poporului Meu și sunt lacomi de nelegiuirile lui. 9 Dar și preotului*Is. 24:2.Ier. 5:31. i se va întâmpla ca și poporului; îl voi pedepsi după umbletele lui și-l voi răsplăti după faptele lui. 10 Vor mânca*Lev. 26:26.Mica 6:14.Hag. 1:6. și tot nu se vor sătura, vor curvi și tot nu se vor înmulți, pentru că au părăsit pe Domnul și poruncile Lui. 11 Curvia, vinul și mustul iau mințile*Is. 28:7.Ecl. 7:7. omului. 12 Poporul Meu își întreabă lemnul*Ier. 2:27.Hab. 2:19. lui și toiagul lui îi prorocește, căci duhul curviei*Is. 44:20. Vers. 5. îi duce în rătăcire și sunt necredincioși Dumnezeului lor. 13 Aduc jertfe*Is. 1:29;57:5,7.Ezec. 6:13;20:28. pe vârful munților, ard tămâie pe dealuri, sub stejari, plopi și terebinți, a căror umbră este plăcută. De aceea*Amos 7:17.Rom. 1:28., fetele voastre curvesc și nurorile voastre sunt preacurve. 14 Nu pot pedepsi pe fetele voastre pentru că sunt curve, nici pe nurorile voastre pentru că sunt preacurve, căci ei înșiși se duc la o parte cu niște curve și jertfesc împreună cu desfrânatele din temple. Poporul fără minte*Vers. 1,6. aleargă spre pieire. 15 Dacă tu curvești, Israele, măcar Iuda să nu se facă vinovat. Nu vă duceți*Cap. 9:15;12:11.Amos 4:4;5:5. măcar la Ghilgal, nu vă suiți la Bet-Aven*1 Împ. 12:29. Cap. 10:5. și nu jurați*Amos 8:14.Ţef. 1:5. zicând: ‘Viu este Domnul!’ 16 Pentru că Israel dă din picioare*Ier. 3:6;7:24;8:5.Zah. 7:11. ca o mânzată neîmblânzită, și să-l mai pască Domnul acum ca pe un miel în imașuri întinse! 17 Efraim s-a lipit de idoli: lasă-l*Mat. 15:14. în pace! 18 Abia au încetat să bea și se dedau la curvie; cârmuitorii lor*Mica 3:11;7:3. sunt lacomi, da, sunt lacomi după rușine! 19 Vântul*Ier. 4:11,12;51:1. îi va strânge cu aripile lui și vor fi dați de rușine*Is. 1:29.Ier. 2:26. cu altarele lor!
